Worst game ever?

The excuse of being rested vs playing a few days ago doesn’t matter. They have grown up playing travel ball and playing 2-5 games a day all day on the weekends so playing just a few days apart shouldn’t be a problem. We just suck on offense like we always have the last 5-6 years. Great defense horrible offense. You cannot go 7-10 mins in a game without getting a basket and beat any decent teams.

Same issues plague this team as previous teams for Barnes, no inside game, streaky 3 point shooting ( but chuck em up anyway) and defense cannot guard a corner three.
Everyone knew our defense would take time as compared to last year. The biggest key for our season is HH. He has to take a starting role. Just has to. ON needs to be a backup along with Plavi running 3rd. If he isn't able to make the jump, we'd better get red hot at just the right time like Auburn did.

No one is saying they were happy with last night. But many of us, myself included, think there are reasonable and somewhat obvious explanations for what took place, short of Barnes being a trash coach who is coaching trash players. Barnes is an excellent coach and this very fine roster will win way many more games than they loose this season. It was one game in early December. And it's basketball, not football. Ever ting gonna be aight! GBO!

Last night sucked, let’s move on. I do think our starting lineup should be:
ZZ
KC
Vescovi
BHH (let him figure it out)
Fulky

No matter what. ON and Uros should never see the floor again and no that’s not frustration from one game, that’s because they flat out suck. I don’t care what anyone says, Aidoo can’t be any worse. **** I bet Tamba is better than Uros.

Laid an egg on the national stage…..again
You do realize that very good teams lose multiple games every year, right? You also hopefully realize that Tennessee has beaten a number of #1 teams the last 10-12 years. I’m sure you credited your team the same way when those events occurred.

Last night's game was really hard to watch and I hope we never shoot close to that poorly again. If this team can find a way to beat Memphis and/or Arizona though all will be forgiven. I am confident they can bounce back.

I mean yeah, it was a bad game. But missing that many open looks is just... you just don't see that too much and you kind of have to expect that's an outlier when there are plenty of examples this season of the shots dropping. On the other hand, we've had our share of "first team to 50, wins" games where that was our actual identity, if you want to go back as far as, say, Kevin O'Neill. I'll take this team every day and twice on Sunday.

Can't help but think how this game will hurt in recruiting. It surely didn't help.

Is there any money left over from the Pruitt slush fund? maybe we can pay players to hit 3 pointers? $20 buck for 3 pointers/$15 for lay ups/$10 for free throws

Going back to the three consistently only to come up empty handed and giving up a rebound that led to opponent points was nothing but pure insanity. Some days they just don’t fall and you have to have a back up plan. The simple fact that zero adjustment was made for this scenario 🤬🤬🤬

The odds of making an open three aren’t really affected that much by the prior results. It would be insane to eliminate make your team eliminate one of the ways to add points in a close game.

TN hit 40% of their 3s after starting out 2-29. Continuing to shoot them was the correct call.

Losing on neutral sites should be worrisome is what may be most concerning

Gonzaga, Purdue, NC State, Louisville, Washington, VCU, UNC...all wins at neutral sites under Barnes. Unlike some other schools, UT plays good teams at neutral sites.

What would you have done?

I understand the "shooter's mentality" of keep letting it fly, but seriously, at what point as a coach do you just say, guys it's not falling for us tonight, drive the basket, and try to score or draw a foul (but weren't hitting those either)

They weren’t making bunnies either. It was just abysmal shooting night all around. Long athletic teams are always a tough matchup. All that said, they still had a chance to win on the last possession of regulation. That speaks to the D, and playing hard. I’d be much more concerned if those two areas were equally as bad last night.
