Worst Knoxville Sports Radio Personality...

Who was the guy on with Josh before West? I remember hating him so much. I think he went to Sevierville or something.

I listen to Ainge all morning from the time I get up until 10am. Then I immediately switch over to Tony B from 10-12. I just cannot listen to Hooker. He is pitiful

Why all the love for Basilio? He's a dumba$$. Lovie is still on the plane heading to Knoxville, according to him.

Personally, i refuse to listen to any of the talk shows, because of all the morons that call in. If I'm talking sports, I want to listen to people that actually KNOWS SOMTHING ABOUT THE SUBJECT. Not some idiot from Po-Dunk Holler, that doesn't know the difference between a slot receiver and a short stop. Most of the callers seem to be just like that.

What dont you like about him. I like that he clowns around and is serious too. Most others seem only serious or over the top ridiculous.

Agree. Love listening to Swain. Not the most polished but is informative, entertaining and he loves the Vols. Good dude. I listen a lot, always enjoy "for what?".

I wish every one of you would have to suffer through a week of West Tennessee sports talk.
You would gain a whole new appreciation.

I agree. I lived in Memphis for about 5 years and here is what I heard:

1. George Lapides is senile and hates the Vols and he's considered the best radio personality in Memphis.
2. The "Rainman" is supposedly a bookie who knew very little about sports. He and his cronies hated Tenn to the point that they spent 2 years telling everyone how much better Ryan Leaf was going to be better than Peyton Manning in the NFL.
3. Otis Jackson had a midday show and his buddies would call him to see where he was going that night. They would have regular phone conversations on the air.
4. Memphis Basketball has never lost a game. They either win or got cheated.

Is Jeff Weinberger still on the air there? That guy was the worst, blithering idiot.... which is saying something given your above points on the lack of sports talk talent in Memphis. Anybody living in Nashville or Knoxville is blessed to have our sports talk personalities (except Heather and Doc) by comparison.

I like Ainge when he is talking about the strategy of football. He knows the game. But does tend to be silly from time to time.

Jason Swain is one of the few people who acts like a grown-up on the radio. I like his show when I get a chance to listen. He generally tells it like it is and calls people out when they need to be called out.

Hooker is still a 16 year old drama queen going to Powell High School.

Stopped listening to The Sports Animal several years ago. Just a waste of time. It was great in the afternoon when Mike Keith was on. But has completely fell off the dial since then.

Doc and Heather are frickin terrible. I'm surprised Jeff hasn't offed himself yet after sitting between those two idiots day after day.

If THEY were awesome... Probably not in Knoxville, Memphis, etc... Just pickup a real rural sports radio and you might hear about tractor pulls, rodeo and single A girls basketball.

96.5 Parsons Crossroads.
The sports voice of west Tennessee, west Tennessee, west Tennessee...

Who are the two midday guys on the animal? Can't stand them because they are as anti UT as you can be. I like honesty but they are purposefully negative for ratings.

U guys who don't listen to TSR should tune in at 5 p.m. Everyday or listen to the podcast on the app anytime of Inkspirations with Inky Johnson it's awesome
Also for the ppl who don't like Ainge because they have a good time on air. Why so serious??? Lighten up guys

A better question would be.

Can you name a Knoxville Sports Radio Personality that you enjoy listening to?

Josh Ward/ Ainge/ Swain

Doc is senile. Heather is a child.

Will West makes ridiculously exaggerated assumptions as though they are complete FACTS. But, with Josh Ward, Sports 180 is somewhat entertaining as a whole IMO.

Im TSR all day except 12-3:00.

#1 and 3 by a country mile

Tony is the best in Knoxville
Basilio is actually a fan and it bleeds through on the radio. He gets emotional at times, but I would rather take Basilio's passion over the knife attacks and skullduggery the others in the Knoxville media dish out anyday/everyday.

I actually think Will is above average for a market this size, but I have noticed a funny crutch of his.
I'd like to challenge him sometime to go a full show without saying the word "absolutely." I'd like to point it out to him but I don't want to make him feel bad. I was a radio personality for over five years and if someone other than my boss had pointed out a crutch like that, I might have been a bit embarrassed.
So many times he will just listen to Josh's point and then say the same thing, just with "absolutely" sprinkled in somewhere.
I pointed it out to my dad and he said it makes him laugh a few times every day now.

Doc is just trying to stir the pot by staying on the opposite side of the fence on a lot of things. That said, Jeff is the only one that really has a clue about sports on there and he still doesn't know much.

I just get the feeling that show is just a 3 hour time killer/money saver for the station. Jeff sells(or used to) advertising for the company and Mickey runs the sports department so they probably don't have time to do much prep. Mickey was really good at play by play for the Lady Vols

I sent him the challenge on Twitter :)

Will West has more crutches than a hospital's paraplegic department, certainly. He could use a good air check from his Program Director, but that's another problem all together that I'll get into in a bit. But honestly, Sports 180 is one of my favorite local sports talk shows. I don't think I'd like it if it was just Will, but I think he and Josh have a good chemistry on-air. They keep it loose and conversational for listeners to call in and they still stay pretty informative and entertaining.

Jimmy and John, well, I like them well, even with Jimmy being the most dull voice on Knoxville's airwaves. Mostly, I like that both of those shows seem to have pretty good local and national connections to call in as regular guest appearances. Even though he sound's like he's got one foot in the grave, I enjoy listening to John McClain's weekly appearance, don't give 2 craps about Nascar, but like when Dr. Jerry Punch is on talking about something else other than cars turning left.

There's no team I love more than my Vols, but I can't hear about them all the time. That's the main reason I don't listen to TSR much any more. There's so many things wrong with that station. Hearing Ainge the other day talking about how he doesn't know or care about what schools are closed, they have no traffic updates in drive time, etc. It completely boggles my mind that they just don't seem to care if the station survives or not. Why give your listeners ANY reason to switch to the other station in town. You don't have to care about what the traffic is like outside because you're in the studio already, just don't flush ratings down the toilet because you don't give a crap or don't want to put forth effort to make it a relevant station. That said, he is pretty informative when football season is in full swing, boring as hell if it's not fall though. I'll listen to Swain on the way home if I get in the car in time just to hear Inkspirations.

The worst is Mornings with Doc, Jeff and Heather...by far, hands down, any other argument is null and void. I'm completely blown away that Doc, aka Mickey Dearstone is the Program Director, aka the Boss at this station. There's no possible way that he air checks his staff with his show being so bad. The only reason I can figure that he's still in his position is that he's also the voice of the Lady Vols, and since the station is the local radio partner with the Vol Network, the higher-ups feel like they can't fire him. They are HORRIBLY uninformed, no guest appearances to talk about anything, except Pat Ryan during football season. Every morning turns into an argument with the listeners because Doc's never been wrong a day in his life, apparently. Heather just wants to chime in with "We didn't say that" so she can hear her voice more often. Jeff is the only one who is decent, but Doc and Heather wouldn't dare dream of his voice being heard more than theirs. That show is truly unlistenable. I'll turn it on for the traffic report as I head into work, and won't turn it back on until that show is over for the day.
