Will West has more crutches than a hospital's paraplegic department, certainly. He could use a good air check from his Program Director, but that's another problem all together that I'll get into in a bit. But honestly, Sports 180 is one of my favorite local sports talk shows. I don't think I'd like it if it was just Will, but I think he and Josh have a good chemistry on-air. They keep it loose and conversational for listeners to call in and they still stay pretty informative and entertaining.
Jimmy and John, well, I like them well, even with Jimmy being the most dull voice on Knoxville's airwaves. Mostly, I like that both of those shows seem to have pretty good local and national connections to call in as regular guest appearances. Even though he sound's like he's got one foot in the grave, I enjoy listening to John McClain's weekly appearance, don't give 2 craps about Nascar, but like when Dr. Jerry Punch is on talking about something else other than cars turning left.
There's no team I love more than my Vols, but I can't hear about them all the time. That's the main reason I don't listen to TSR much any more. There's so many things wrong with that station. Hearing Ainge the other day talking about how he doesn't know or care about what schools are closed, they have no traffic updates in drive time, etc. It completely boggles my mind that they just don't seem to care if the station survives or not. Why give your listeners ANY reason to switch to the other station in town. You don't have to care about what the traffic is like outside because you're in the studio already, just don't flush ratings down the toilet because you don't give a crap or don't want to put forth effort to make it a relevant station. That said, he is pretty informative when football season is in full swing, boring as hell if it's not fall though. I'll listen to Swain on the way home if I get in the car in time just to hear Inkspirations.
The worst is Mornings with Doc, Jeff and Heather...by far, hands down, any other argument is null and void. I'm completely blown away that Doc, aka Mickey Dearstone is the Program Director, aka the Boss at this station. There's no possible way that he air checks his staff with his show being so bad. The only reason I can figure that he's still in his position is that he's also the voice of the Lady Vols, and since the station is the local radio partner with the Vol Network, the higher-ups feel like they can't fire him. They are HORRIBLY uninformed, no guest appearances to talk about anything, except Pat Ryan during football season. Every morning turns into an argument with the listeners because Doc's never been wrong a day in his life, apparently. Heather just wants to chime in with "We didn't say that" so she can hear her voice more often. Jeff is the only one who is decent, but Doc and Heather wouldn't dare dream of his voice being heard more than theirs. That show is truly unlistenable. I'll turn it on for the traffic report as I head into work, and won't turn it back on until that show is over for the day.
