Worst team UT has ever played?

We never played Division 2 games before Dooley or maybe Kiffin. I can't remember. So the fact that we are playing Division 2 teams is sad in general.

Some of the door-mat teams years ago like Pacific, UTEP, Akron, Vandie, Duke, Texas Tech, UNLV, Kentucky, Rutgers, South Carolina, Temple, Cincinnati, The directional schools of Louisiana, Oklahoma State are some teams that come to mind that we used to destroy when we played them.

These schools may as well been division 2 back then. I guess those millions they earned for getting the **** kicked out of them has made them better over the years.

We will be back sooner than later because Butch gets it!!

I think possibly playing really bad teams was a good move by the coaches of tennessee after phil fulmer. The SEC is dominating the college football world and tennessee has the toughest schedule year after year. We need some doormat teams so hopefully we can make it through the door eventually.

I thought FCS and D2 was the same thing? My bad - I know literally nothing about any college sports under the top level, and to be honest why would I, I can't watch any of it?

You're telling me you can't stroll into any pub in London tomorrow and demand to watch American football? pfft. :eek:lol:

Vanderbilt is usually the worst team to come into Neyland. I still remember my first UT game..1993..62-14 beatdown.

The 65-0 bloodletting that we inflicted on the '94 Commode team was my favorite Vanderbilt game of all-time, but it is difficult to legitimately consider a 5-6 team to be in the running for "worst team UT has ever played." Kentucky was 1-10 that year but we only beat them 52-0.

Could be Vandy in 94, 65-0,

... could be Vandy in 03, 48-0,

... could be Vandy in 98, 41-0 ... although maybe I should give them credit for playing the national champs "that close."

Although it was before my time, I would have to throw the '55 Alabama team into the pool of nominees. During portions of the 1954-56 seasons, Alabama compiled a 20-game winless streak. Bama failed to win a game in 1955 (0-10) and scored only 48 points while surrendering 256. The tidy bowl boys came no closer to victory that year than a 15-point loss to Vandy (Alabama Historical Scores). Seven of the 17 losses which they incurred over that 20-game period were by shutouts and none of these whitewash defeats were by fewer than 20 points.

Incidentally, from 1955-1957, Tennessee shut out Alabama three consecutive times by the combined score of 58-0.

You're quite welcome; we don't have as many SEC or national titles to crow about as Alabama, but it is also highly unlikely that we will ever sink that low.

I think Carson Newman holds record on worst TN beat down 1914 89 - 0..... That's not likely to be topped....

In my lifetime worst beat down we ever gave a team has to be in 2000....Louisiana Monroe was just BAAAD.

Dooley has ruined me! I go into every UT game that we are supposed to win now thinking to myself, "Please dont lose this very winnable game!"

Actually, we have topped 100 points four times: 1905 game vs. American (104-0), 1912 game vs. King (101-0), 1915 game vs. Carson-Newman (101-0), and 1915 game vs. Cumberland (101-0). See Tennessee Historical Scores.

Good to know I only knew about the 1914 beat down because of the grey jersey stories.... there is an "American" college? not very original....

Austin Peay is picked dead last in the Ohio Valley Conference in preseason polls. To me that says it all. It's rather embarrassing. Is this a game Mike Hamilton set up?
