Would the door open for Wilcox's return to the Hill?

no 5 stars?

Well, 4*s Jerod Mayo, Rico McCoy, Robert Ayers, Nevin McKenzie, Wes Brown, Xavier Mitchell and DeAngelo Willingham don't count.

5*s Eric Berry and Brent Vinson also don't count.

EDIT: Forgot 4*s Chris Walker and Demonte Bolden in there.

EDIT 2: Also forgot 5*s Walter Fisher and Ben Martin.

I also forgot 5* Demtrice Morley. How could I forget him!?!

Berry - Freshman
Donald - Freshman
Martin - Freshman
Vinson - Freshman / WR
Morley - not on 2007 team

So we have one, Berry that actually played much on Defense

I stand corrected, 2008. Look at his body of work overall. Very good. May have had a bad season here or there, but his defenses were consistently in the top 10 every year. I'm sure that Chavis being DC had nothing to do with the players coming to UT

I've never been a Chavis hater but he did coach some very stacked defenses. When the talent was down it seemed his were too. Yes he had great success with the players on campus but was reported to not have much to do with recruiting. He was one heck of a LB coach though

I like our DC. The problem is you got to put an offense together that can score more points than what out D holds the opponent to. That does not happen.

The recruiting part is the reason I believe we can't afford to have chief back. We don't have room on the staff for a coach that doesn't feel like recruiting. LSU recruits just fine without chief dedicating his time to it. It's the perfect gig for him.

There's a reason Jancek wasn't coaching in the SEC anymore
Yeah....I could live with Bajakian, possibly. But Janzek returning scares me a bit. He was a big question mark coming in....knowing his past history with UGA. If he couldn't handle it there, with tons of homestate talent to utilize, I can't see how he'd fare any better here.

All I can hope for is that, in all this off time (no bowl), he does a TON of self-scouting and study of how the best defenses handle the areas we struggled in (mobile QB's, stopping the run, etc.). If he is willing to do a lot of self-evaluating, the way our players are expected to, from week to week and practice to practice....then, he might turn out to be a decent one.

But to be perfectly frank, I still think CBJ should do what he said he would do, from the start. Hire the best damn staff he could possibly hire. That eliminates both Bajakian and Janzek. Cause they ain't it.

Right now they're losing 3 of LA's Top 10 players to Bama. So, maybe it's not such a good idea for Chief to sit on his laurels.

This year could be an aberration, who knows.

This has been said roughly a million times, but the only way Mike Bajakian is leaving Tennessee is if Butch Jones does as well. Out of all the staff, only he and possibly Strip fit the "right hand man" description more closely than anyone else.

It has been reported that Steve Sarkasian has interviewed for the USC job. If boths side accept where would that leave Justin Wilcox and might the possibility arise for him to replace Jancek as UT's DC?

Why would we want to replace Jancek?

The way some folks on here talk, Wilcox was the difference between Dooley winning 10 games last year, instead of 4. If you follow that logic, Wilcox probably should have been the head coach in the first place.

I don't see him coming back, but I'm not against replacing a coordinator (or two). Saban replaced his OC after his 1st year at Alabama and it seems like that worked out all right.

In almost every way the returning D roster from '11 to '12 should have been stronger. Wilcox's D allowed only 22 ppg in '11. Sunseri allowed 35.7. Four of the 7 losses last year were by the difference (13 ppg) or less. I don't think a one or two loss UT team loses to Vandy last year. I would say it is pretty likely that WIlcox was the difference between 5 wins and 9 or 10.

I don't think there's much of a chance of Jones replacing anyone unless they leave on their own this year regardless of who is available.

Changing coaches and having our player learning a new system next year won't fix a thing. We will see similar results. Only an idiot does the same thing continously and expects different results. Give the system time please.

On defense we are going to see similar results next year regardless. It won't be until 2015 that we'll see what Jancek's system is or isn't capable of doing, but there are no more excuses at that point.

Personally, I'm pessimistic, based off of the fact that in many areas the defense regressed as this season went along, but I'll remain hopeful.

Siap. Heard that Washington wants to keep as much staff cohesion as possible with Sarkisian's departure and will likely elevate Wilcox to HC.

Edit: just heard he's headed to USC with Sark.

Trusted? he knew DD was an idiot before a lot of people. He should be applauded had he stayed we beat Mizzou and UF and we be with DD this year

I would argue that he CAN be trusted.
He didn't bail on Tennessee, he bailed on Dooley. Seems like he saw what was coming way in advance.

I admit, my post that the two of you were responding to was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction, and you both make very valid points. I stand corrected.

1 like for each of you, FWIW.
