Would you guys be happy with a recruiting class like this?

4stars- 10
3stars- 12
2stars- 3

3.28 star avg.

and what number would like for the Vols class to be ranked?

just wanna see where the boards expectations really are.

TIA

Lord Vader, that's not quite top ten, but a reason to go on living.

I'm fine with this proposal so long as we get all the Tennessee boys we possibly can.

As long as im one of the recipients of an offer then I would be fine with that. Make the offer out to Utvols88 plz? k thanks

To answer the OP, yes, I would be happy with that class.

I am more excited to see how this staff develops talent, then how they recruit. This staff will do fine in the living room.

I still say that before this is over, CDD is going to pull off a couple of surprises. He did it last year class and I believe he will this class.

LV maybe you will like this. According to Rivals our starting offense and defense for last years team that won the national title included.

1 5 star
9 4 star
11 3 star
1 2 star
1 Not Rated

3.304 average

This was last years starting line up. Granted we also had depth but the point is some of these players were not that high profile coming out of college. These are rivals postings.

Stars Position Pos Rank
SE Julio Jones 5 WR 1
FL Marquis Maze 3 ATH 52
WR Darius Hanks 3 WR NR
TE Colin Peek 3 TE 27
HB Preston Dial 3 TE 24
RT Drew Davis 2 OL NR
RG Barrett Jones 4 OL 10
C William Vlachos 3 OL 9
LG Michael Johnson 4 OL 17
LT James Carpenter 4 OL NR
QB Greg McElroy 3 QB 11
RB Mark Ingram 3 RB 58

Stars Position Pos Rank
DT Lorenzo Washington 4 DT NR
NG Terrence Cody 3 DT NR
E Brandon Deaderick 3 DE 22
Jack Courtney Upshaw 4 LB 12
RILB Rolando McClain 4 LB 2
LILB Corey Reamer 3 LB 59
OLB Eryk Anders NR LB NR
RCB Javier Arenas 3 ATH NR
FS Justin Woodall 4 DB 17
SS Mark Barron 4 ATH 5
LCB Kareem Jackson 4 DB NR

Also 7 of those players just got drafted, including 4 3 stars and 5 more signed NFL contracts including 2 3 stars and one NR. So to me stars mean very little, but identifying talent is the key.

Here is another question I've been wanting to ask you guys. How much is intelligence factored into these guys ratings? I would rather have a team full of guys with high 3* measurables and above average intelligence, than a team full of dummies who run a little faster and jump a little higher and get an extra star because of it.

with all that UT has going against us, 99% of people (who follow recruiting) would agree that a top 15 class is a very good achievement.

Cracks me up what people want out of DD and this years class with so much bad press for the team. Top 12 should be good enough if we plug the glaring holes. In some cases I see us just taking big bodies and sorting them later.

I would be happy with it, I don't put much stock in rating players especially some of the guys who can't make camps(or afford it) and the recruiting services don't get to see them, ala Montori Hughes.

I completely agree. There's only so much that goes into those stars and if Coach Dooley and company feel like these kids are good enough to be VOLS than I stand by their decisions, at least until they give me a reason not to

Kiffin's record was what before he came here?
His record was that he was an NFL coach for one of the worst franchises... and MANY say that he had them headed in the right direction if he could have gotten along with Davis.

I think CLK is low class and lacks character. But he does have talent and other coaches don't refer to him as boy wonder for no good reason. He has very high football intelligence and instincts.

The only reason he got good recurits was because of his daddy!
I don't like him... but this statement is irrational. He and O get recruits because they can sell ice to Eskimos.
His daddy couldn't stop ole miss nor VT.
You cannot imagine how sickening it is to me that you're forcing me to defend those disloyal jerks... but what CMK did with that completely depleted LB corps is nothing short of amazing. IIRC, Ole Miss had the best statistical O in the SEC. VaTech was a very good team... it happens when you don't have the talent you need.

How can you put so much confidence in lame and question CDD?
Because I've seen what Kiffin and crew can do but have not seen what DD can do. I'm not saying DD won't be as good or better. I just can't express confidence in him until I have a good reason to do so. I like him. I hope he does well. I think he's a talented, intelligent, stand up guy... but the proof is in the results.
Lame will be fired within two to three years because his daddy won't be around to baby sit his son and he will break so many rules USC will never see a bowl game!! He is an immature drunk! Thank you very much and you are welcome for this humble but accurate opinion.

CLK does not depend on his dad. He could replace his dad and still do well.

If he fails, I think it will be because of the other stuff you posted... not coaching ability. I think character issues could catch up to him.

As to the OP, depends on if needs are met, if we take a bunch of schlubs that won't qualify (doesn't appear to be a problem thus far), and well, if these guys turn out to be any good. I'm willing to trust the staff for now on their evaluation of 3 star guys being good enough. But you know if it turns out that they aren't, there'll be a lot of retrospective criticism of this class and the failure to land higher-rated guys.

I would be thrilled if we could land this kind of class. Not sure we get that many 4 stars, so yes I would be beside myself. That would give us a top 15 class easily without question and would be borderline top 10.

Niceeeee.

Thing is, Saban has earned respect from everyone.

Dooley hasn't had much of a chance to.

It's easy to be patient and trust what he's (Saban) doing as your head coach because he always wins at the places he coaches.

Dooley hasn't done that yet. It's not fair to Dooley to compare or use Saban's roster to try and validate anything Dooley does.

Let the season play out and we'll see what DD does.

The only sure thing that people can compare between CDD and CNS is identifying talent. Like I have said CDD knows talent and LSU's 2003 title was because of his evaluation. So I do not see why so many people question can he get the right into the program for UT to get back to the top. I think he has proven that. The real qeustion is will he be able to develop it. That is where CNS has proven himseelf. It is one thing to develop talent another to evaluate it and and great coaches do both.

But whether CDD can develop remains to be seen but until he gets a chance I fail to understand why so many think he can not. I guess the fascination with stars and class rankings get some people excited, but as I posted above that only looks good coming into the school, afterwards he means nothing if you can not develop them.
