Would you recruit Mettenburger...

Grabbing some booty or tuning in Tokyo is weird and creepy?

Getting permission is key, but he's not the first person to commit such a heinous crime.

When you don't have permission it is extremely weird and creepy.

Being drunk and grabbing random tits and asses is not normal behavior.

Also, I'm not really sure how the existence of other creeps helps his case.

The problem is was it univited attention or was this girl getting her willy's by getting a football player in trouble. Not blaming women, but when you are hanging out at bars with your mammary glands hanging out and shorts so small we can see half the moon and its crater, what do you expect? Alcohol and boobs dont mix. Hes a guy with Testosterone in his blood. He didnt rape anybody. He grabbed a chunk of boo-ta.

I do and they wont be out in public, dressed like some of these girls nowadays.

I didnt say that its right, but its gonna happen. The problem is you have a he said/she said, so which one do you believe.

What happens if you meet a girl and she comes on to you, flirting and the whole works, and you kiss her and grab on the butt. Well, all she has to do is say that it was unprovoked contact and then you are in the same boat as he is.

Dont be so quick to condemn the young man.

He plead guilty. so yea, I am gonna go hard on him

"I first want to apologize to the young lady my actions most directly affected, and I hope that by me accepting responsibility for my actions that she can move on with her life," Mettenberger said in the statement.

"I would also like to apologize to my family, friends, teammates, the coaching staff and the University of Georgia. Though it was very uncharacteristic of me to act the way I did, I still accept full responsibility for this event. I deeply regret my actions of that night and can assure that these actions will never happen again. I intend to do everything in my power to restore my image and rebuild the trust people had in me before."

then on top of that he lied to his coach when asked whether there was a situation when things first began to build up. He had a chance to let his coach get in front of the story and he didnt give him the opportunity.
Iwould rather not see him be given an opportunity to be be a Vol.

Yes, definitely.

He is a legit QB and was right there with Murray as the #1 QB.

He could come in and sit out this year then he would still have 3 years to play 3 since he redshirted last year. Him and Bray would be in the same class.

Absolutely not! I don't care if he is the second coming of Peyton Manning, we don't need anymore of this kind of garbage. Dooley is trying to clean up the program. Let somebody else take this kid.

of course, everyone has lied, but there are consequences when you represent more than just yourself.

I just worry that if you start going around proclaiming that player X can't play for UT because he grabbed a girl's butt and lied about it, or for something on a comparable plane.....then we aren't going to field much of a team.

This really isn't even the same as Hood or Roethlisberger. He might be a bit of an immature jerk, but honestly he knows anywhere he goes he's going to have one opportunity. Not five, not ten, but one. Hopefully he'll grow up quickly and toss this dumb action into a pile of mistakes that he will never make again.

Your arguments are weak. Hood is doing fine. Roethlisberger is not. And Mettenburger is a problem child. The kid needs to look elsewhere and forget UT.

We've got work to do. GO VOLS!!

I'm just using scenarios that either relate to UT specifically or current events, thus Hood/Roethlisberger. My point is that Mettenburger's situation doesn't *exactly* relate to either and has to be evaluated on different terms.

I don't think the argument is weak. We have immature players on this roster. There are players that like to party, it's naive to think we don't. We have players on this roster that have gotten in trouble with the law before (Myles/Jackson/Hood).

I'm just saying that you can't just throw Mettenburger into a singled-out category where he's somehow radioactive just because he went to Georgia and has been caught acting like an idiot.

If Dooley is recruiting him and has shown a history of trying to recruit high-character guys, he has to think there's a good chance that Mettenburger will take the crash course in grow-up school.

If Dooley would take this guy, then he sees more than most of us know about. If we swiped a guy from Georgia that turned out to be awesome, I guess I would have to do the hot dog dance...

How do you "swipe" a guy that has already been kicked off the team? Mettenberger has excellent physical tools, but his leadership qualities were sadly underdeveloped, and no, Mett was nowhere near the #1 QB position according to guys that sat through many a practice this Spring, not just the glorified media scrimmage. Don't know the guy personally, but had caught an undercurrent of disapproval from people that had been around him even before this mess showed up, so I think this must not be the first example of fratboy behavior on his unofficial record even if it was the first time he was officially caught.

I wouldnt recruit him. Yes, he has all what you want in a QB, but he would have to sit out a year. It would also possibly turn Worley away. with Worley we would have 4 QBs on scholly next year. with 3 being a Soph or less. Then you can throw in there the media hit you would take. Not worth it IMO.

Iirc he was booted off dogs team, I don't think sitting out a year or releases apply here. I think he is in the same place where the ga player was last hear and wanted to come here.

Mettenberger was far UGA's best QB. Clearly better than Murray if you ask anyone down there that is realistic and objective. I have no opinion one way or another on whether Tennessee should take the kid. If they do fine, if not fine. I do know he'd bring another very talented QB into the fold.

I can't see this as a win win situation for UT. UT will be assuming all the risk and the kid is going to have a big bullseye on him all the time.
Just as a question did he have to register as a sex offender?

I am no lawyer but I would take a guess if he didn't serve any prison time then he probably wouldn't have to.
