Would you still want pearl gone if he didn't lie?

Is this really a question? I mean I'm sure Hat and Lawvol might want him gone, but to think a guy with a 144-59 record, five NCAA Tourney births, three sweet 16's and an elite 8 would even be on the "luke warm seat" is RIDICULOUS.

He wouldn't be. He'd still be borderline deity.

Do what? He refuted your silliness. You sarcastically called him wise one, but he is clearly the wiser on this topic.

Don't go away mad, bra.

Talk about damning with faint praise. Being wiser than him on this topic is like be the Science Bowl champ in Boaz, AL.

Now go find a post where I have even remotely advocated for Pearl's removal because of his coaching.

Easy big fella. That would mean I would have to do some research... I'll chalk it up to a baseless assumption gathered from other anti-Pearl posts and I'll retract my statement. Better?

Not at all. I've been on this board a long time; I get in arguments all the time with them. They're not interested in anything about the school other than football and sometimes basketball. You talk about the reputation of the university, and they respond by talking about what a big business college sports is, and how nobody gives a crap about classes at a school like UT anyway.

It's not a coincidence that most of the people you see who think Pearl should be fired for unethical conduct are students and alumni, and most of the people who don't think lying is a big deal and winning is more important have no connection to the school other than as fans. I wouldn't care if people in the Atlanta Falcons front office got caught lying either.

Then we agree that those that wouldn't care about paying players or fixing grades are complete and utter idiots. I just disagree on the number of people or "fans" that group consists of. Nobody I know on a personal or business level thinks that way.

It depends on how representative a sample you think this message board is of Tennessee fans in general. There are plenty of guys who post on here who will admit to it pretty cheerfully. They care roughly as much about the integrity and reputation of UT-Knoxville as I do about corporate ethics at Liberty Media, the conglomerate that owns the Atlanta Braves. Which, if all you are into is the sports, is unfortunately the rational way to look at it.

this is actually my favorite post you have ever made. Seriously, that is gold.
Lost it for a second there.
Let the baiters get me again.
Don't mind being told I'm wrong when I make an ignorant post, but calling people idiots and rubes chaffs my ass.
Especially when it comes from some one whose claim to fame is 47 thousand posts on a silly message board.

If the rube shoe fits, wear it. As far as a claim to fame, my presence here rates about 1,889th on my list.

If chaffs you because it's accurate. That's your problem, not mine.

I admitted it was an ignorant post.
You want blood or were you just dropped on your head as a child.
I'll give you the last word so you can keep up your average of 26 posts a day for the last 5 years.
We all need a life of some kind.

The apex of stupidity on this thread was reached when multiple posters suggested that the reputation of a university has been tarnished by the actions of its basketball coach. Or the notion that private schools are not far and away superior to public schools. Not sure which. But back to the first point if Pearl's actions tarnished the reputation of anything it is the basketball program. Which most people are able to separate completely from the university.

This is garbage. To pretend that the kid gloves handling of this situation doesn't impact the outsider view of the greater university is naive at best, utterly stupid most likely.
