Wow!!shocked

Love to have her but all of what made UT so great is no longer here (Pat Summit). Frankly we are living on her laurels and I don't see us improving that with the staff and team we have in place today. She WOULD make the team a bit better certainly. I wouldn't get my hopes up for her coming to K-town.

Not my fault. The truth hurts. Keep wearing your Pat-colored glasses with this team. Only problem is Pat isn't here anymore. Nor is the greatness she instilled on her teams.

The original post from the SC fan made it sound like the path between Knoxville and Chattanooga is somehow more difficult than the path between Atlanta and Columbia. It isn't. Nobody said it is completely flat, but you're going to be going just as fast on I-75 to Knoxville as you are I-20 to Columbia. There is basically no steep grade at all to the trip at any point and there are not a lot of curves at all, unless you're like Volinvonore and you travel off the beaten path and want to add an hour to your trip. I just made the trip last month for the SECT.

There are mountains in North Georgia but more toward the Northeast of the state (i.e. the Chattahoochee National Forest). I don't consider those teeny, tiny, weakling little hills between Chattanooga and Atlanta to be "mountains". Let's not act as if it's like going across the Smokies toward Asheville, or even the Plateau toward Knoxville. It isn't even close, and the terrain doesn't come close to slowing your trip down.

Knoxville and Chattanooga both sit in a valley between the Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau, with Chattanooga being more toward the edge of the Plateau. The Rocky Top you're talking about is the mountains around Knoxville (specifically the Smokies)...they aren't actually in Knoxville.

Okay, okay you win. I just assumed it would be a little more "mountainous" as I have never been that way but thought at least around Knoxville it would be at least slightly Foothilly. I've been there 4 times, but I guess Columbia is kind of foothilly too in places. It's all beside the point I was trying to make was that the distance and travel is basically the same.

Why so tough on Holly? She's recruiting just as well as Pat did. Anyone needs time to adjust to a new job.

Holly just waited too long to become a HC, imho

Hard to teach an old dog, ya know?

I can think of only one long term assistant coach who has had a decent head coaching stint. Joe B Hall might be the only one

There isn't a dimes worth of difference between the next ten coaches after Geno. Holly is in that group so until someone else comes along who is clearly better there is no use making a lateral move. Whoever has the dominant player out of that group usually wins or contests for the championship. UConn has had the dominant player in Moore and now Stewart so they are the odds on favorite. Baylor won when Griner was there. ND won with Diggins. We just haven't had that sort of player. I will also say that Mulkey really underperformed in not getting more titles with Griner. Geno always wins when he has that sort of player. But if even he has won without the dominant player it has been so long ago I can't even remember it. Pat won with some hodge podge teams on occasion. That is one thing Geno has never done, even though in most respects he is likely the better coach of the two.

We have improved each year. I said going into this year that we were over rated and that proved to be true. But we were still better than the previous year. We are at the point now where we need to beat a legit top four team on the road. We may get a chance at SC this year, but I don't really count them since they are in our conference and the SEC is also over rated. Our bugaboo is playing poorly against the elite teams. We couldn't get over the hump this year in the regular season so we knew we weren't going to do anything in the tournament. We should not have been seeded anywhere near as high as we were.

It will be interesting to see if Simmons being gone improves how we perform in the big games. We don't have another guard that dynamic. But we may get steadier and more consistent play out of that position. We will see which is better I guess. Tucker had better be healthy and good. Ariel might not be back and Carter can't do it all herself. Jones is not a true guard and has holes in her game. We could have real trouble out of that position if things don't fall correctly for us.

Tennessee was overrated this year because there players don't step up. What was coming back this year? Reigning SEC POY, #1 rated incoming freshman, SEC FOY and NFOY by some publications, and host of McD AAs. Who in the country, besides UConn, was returning this caliber of talent? Tennessee was easily a top 3 pre-season team, but they don't play hard AND smart. They let inferior teams hang along way too long, and when they come up against teams that won't choke, then they have no chance to win because the players don't have composure. There have been a few exceptions this year (TAMU #1, SC, UNC), but for the most part, they are their own worst enemy.

Going into the next season, they will again likely be a pre-season #3. They need to beat an Ogwumike-less Stanford or ND after Achonwa/Braker/McBride have moved on with all of the incoming talent. Even UConn should be beatable with their graduations, so Tennessee should be on a short list of legit NC contenders next year. If they are not, and continue to lose to mediocre teams like Vandy or LSU while folding like a cheap suit against top 10 teams, then this program will never be relevant again.

Recruiting is good, not great. UCONN, ND and now USCarolina are whipping us.

Holly shouldn't need the grace period. An assistant since Hector was a pup. It appeared at MANY times last year that the team completely tuned her out. And the snide post games comments multiple times about the team she had and if she had recruited them or not leaves a lot to be desired. She certainly hasn't over achieved yet. I am certain she never will.

I'm a Gamecock fan 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Rutgers is next. I have several friends who are Tennessee fans, though. I joined here and the Boneyard since I'm hoping my Gamecocks are about to join you guys at the top of the WBB world.

Ruggy: You realize that /nobody/ can be both a UT fan and a UConn fan? You'd be the only such person in America. It is like somebody saying they are a fan of both Mich and Mich. State, or Kentucky and Louisville, or auburn and alabama. Nobody does that. Pick one: you're on a fence too wide to straddle!
