Wow! Stay classy OU

well yeah, since I'm a woman... :eek:lol:

Dang, now I have to work on not noticing that you have some preconceived notions about who posts here. :)

eta: and I don't think "Dude's gotta be a snob...because Greek life." I just think you're a snob. No causality assumed or implied.

...for not being crazy about apartment parties. Which is why I've accused you of a really ridiculous tendency called confirmation bias.

Also, if you were in college 40 years ago, you definitely didn't have the same apartment party experience I did. Y'know, having your shoes stuck to the carpet, picking up pube covered beer pong balls, etc.

I don't totally disagree with you. I'm not sure that I would have expelled them if I had Boren's job.

But, PR is a very important factor in decisions like this. While they'll never come right out and say it, OU doesn't want this kind of incident connected to their institution because it's a PR disaster. Even if it doesn't really affect anyone's learning environment, it very well could dissuade potential students from choosing OU or a donor from writing a check. We already know of one football player who has decommitted from OU because of it, so it's not outside the realm of logical thought for Boren to be concerned about how this will effect future enrollment or donations.

I called it a PC move, maybe a PR move is better suited. I'd be interested to see what kind of donation ramifications it has on SAE alumni going forward. Merited or not, this could impact their willingness to give to the university from the other side of the spectrum.

The worst thing for decency in Greek Life is Total Frat Move. That site, which is intended to be pure satire, bleeds over into everyday life, and sometimes people don't understand that being satirical is a form of art. They slowly become desensitized to those awful jokes, then seemingly begin to think that it's ok. The amount of horrendously racist jokes are made on that site supposedly "in jest" is terrible, but even worse is people starting to act as if it's ok to actually act that way.

It's not.

I quoted your post. You said you studied agriculture.

I assumed you were an ag major.

My misunderstanding. Thought you were saying your "advice" was coming from an ag major.

Yes, I was an Agricultural Economics major in undergrad and a public policy major in graduate school. Now I don't use my graduate degree at all.

Can't believe that site is still around haha. Most of the stuff on that site is so stupid it can't even be classified as satirical.

I was in college 40 years ago, and I can assure you that we knew how to party back then. We didn't play Bingo.

Ok look this was clearly a song that every member of that chapter knew. They aren't British soccer fans...they don't just make up songs that rhyme that quickly. Every brother of that chapter knew the song. Something I saw said that a chapter in Texas had a very similar song, with the only change being the words "Abe set 'em free" instead of "you can hang em from a tree." There's just like a 0% chance that this was an isolated incident.

lol that's what's so sad. The morons who post on it routinely and/or live off of what they read on it THINK that it's satire and therefore think it's ok to act that way

If my favorite restaurant's owner was outed in an online video singing a racist chant, I would no longer frequent his restaurant. Is that "punishment" in your eyes? To me, it's simply choosing not to associate with a racist idiot. I'm not attempting to silence him, I just don't want to be around someone like that.
I choose where I eat based upon the food, nothing else.

Cleanliness of the establishment means nothing to you?
Brother Jack's, on University Ave (off Western Ave, near Knoxville College) when I was at U.T., was the nastiest eating place that I have ever seen. It didn't stop me from eating there. I outlived that place with no ill effects.

Government entities have the right to choose not to do non-mandatory business with anyone, as long as that decision isn't based upon a prohibited trait like race or gender. If the government doesn't want to employ a certain contractor because he has made racist comments in public, the government can do so. If a government entity does not want to take the money of a racist idiot in exchange for a public undergraduate education, the government entity has that right.

Scary if true.

I'm not telling you how to spend your money.

But David Duke could open the best burger joint in the country, and I'm never going to spend a dime there.

I most likely wouldn't either and thats our way of not condoning his actions or comments.

That's your prerogative, but I'll be at his burger joint, as well as Farrakhan's if they have good burgers.
