Wow! Stay classy OU

I give thanks regularly that we didn't have this technology when I was a kid. It was rough enough without the instant permanent record looming over every action. We've all said and done things that we hope stay in the past. I don't know how you go through the motions of figuring out who you are these days. Either you're on cue at all times or your twitter bait.

Or, you're not dumb enough to record a bus full of white frat kids shouting racial slurs.

Also, :eek:lol: at the notion that you can't "figure out who you are" without perpetuating stereotypes and actively promoting racism.

I guess you don't really know who you are until you shout proudly "you can hang them from a tree" with your frat brothers. :eek:lol:

What's the point of criticizing it? Like I posted, it wasn't intended for you or probably anyone who was not there. What makes you feel the need to comment on it? Are you obsessed with the musings of SAEs on a party bus? It is a job or a hobby?

Well for starters, I'm an 45 year-old African American male, so I find the use of that word, especially in that context, extremely offensive.

That's not to say those kids don't have every right to feel, think and say whatever they want regarding anything they want...regardless of how misguided and backwards it may be.

Personally I think OU's administration should have allowed SAE to remain on campus, but I understand the scorched earth response.

I also understand the expletive laden response from the football team.

Really? Amid protests and nationwide outrage? That was impossible. How would you feel as a black student on that campus walking by that house every day? FWIW, I just browsed LandThieves and they seem more concerned about how this will impact recruiting than anything else.

Same state that just banned AP history in high schools and has a state Senator that picked up a snowball to prove climate change wasn't real. They grow them really intelligent over in the corn belt don't they?

You just copy and pasted that from the comment section of the article

It would have forced some difficult lessons to be taught, first hand, in the direct company of any student...regardless of race...who was offended by what was said.

But I get a public university taking the stance they did in this case.

Not sure what a major college football team whose starters are mostly African-Americans has to do with some dumb drunk redneck frat boys chanting racial slurs on a bus.

I'm sure there's plenty of football players on OU's campus who'd like to whoops some SAE frat boy ass.

Their football team walked out of practice today in "protest."

Not surprising to hear this from someone that was not in a Greek orgnization.

Some quick facts to consider:
• There are over 9 million Greek members nationally
• Of the nation’s 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by fraternity men.
• 85% of the Fortune 500 executives belong to a fraternity.
• 40 of 47 U.S. Supreme Court Justices since 1910 were fraternity men.
• 76% of all Congressmen and Senators belong to a fraternity.
• Every U.S. President and Vice President, except two in each office, born since the first social fraternity was founded in 1825 have been members of a fraternity.
• 63% of the U.S. President’s Cabinet members since 1900 have been Greek.
• A National Conference report shows a high percentage of the 4,000 NIC fraternity chapters are above the All-Men’s scholastic average on their respective campuses.
• A U.S. Government study shows that over 70% of all those who join a fraternity/sororitiy graduate, while under 50% of all non-fraternity/sorority persons graduate.
• Less than 2% of an average college student’s expenses go toward fraternity dues. (U.S. Office of Education)
• Over 85% of the student leaders on some 730 campuses are involved in the Greek community.
• 1st Female Senator was Greek
• 1st Female Astronaut was Greek
• All of the Apollo 11 Astronauts are Greek
• Over $7 million is raised each year by Greeks nationally
• The Greek system is the largest network of volunteers in the US, with members donating over 10 million hours of volunteer service each year 71% of those listed in “Who’s Who in America” belong to a fraternity
• As Alumni, Greeks give approximately 75% of all money donated to universities
• There are 123 fraternities and sororities with 9 million members total There are 750,000 undergraduate members in 12,000 chapters on more than 800 campuses in the USA and Canada

Also, the majority of these politicians and business folks are liars and rip people off. Not saying they're all bad, but this list mostly is folks of low moral standard. Again, not all, but mostly.

Allegedly they had a recruit de-commit today. I don't know which sport and I have nothing official I can point to, but I have a decent source.

Don't check my stats or any of that jazz.

He got an offer from Bama

I manage a global purchasing department in the automotive industry. I have a group of 7 folks, 3 of which come from fraternities. (I inherited them, did not hire)

Not coincidentally, they are the most immature and lazy in the entire group. Also not coincidentally, they carry around an entitlement attitude that seems to suggest their 4 years of bromance and Greek letters should somehow translate to gravy jobs in the real world.

That being said I've came across several outstanding young men from fraternities, but statistically it isn't the norm.

"Statistically"? Like your three person study counts for something, lol.

Greek life was awesome for me. I was an officer, I coordinated events, spoke in front of crowds of 90+ people, raised more money for philanthropies than any of the posters here *****ing about Greek life, and went to parties that weren't hosted in some jerk-off's apartment.

It all really prepared me for the professional world. Mommy and daddy didn't pay, either. I always had two jobs. So I guess you could say I worked harder than the chumps in this thread *****ing about greek life.

It's not just the song or just the noose. It's the pattern and general attitude.

Are the acts that bad in the grand scheme of things? Probably not, they're just incredibly stupid.

The problem is that rather than call the acts out as stupid and taking action toward actually ending the problem, people take up the position that it's not really a big problem, people are just butthurt, it's part of the experience, or any other number of blindingly dumb excuses people put forth.

Why not just make them stop? It's not that damn difficult.

Make who stop? Pattern? There are 9 million fraternity members and you are portraying them as racists. Honestly you seem bitter about something

Even if these people believe what they're chanting what's it to you? I don't get the sense that you want to hang out with them. They were on a bus they rented headed to what I assume was a private event so I doubt this was intended for public consumption. This wasn't directed to you or anyone you know. So what's your problem? Are you some sort of thought vigilante setting right the wrongs of those who would think evil into this world?

So racism is ok as long as it is kept private? Are you for real?

You got that I'm bitter and I'm painting 9 million frat members as racists out of that?

I thought I was pretty specific to the issues at hand and not the typical "I hate greeks, pay for your friends, etc" posts.

Is it that hard to simply address the issue or do you really not see anything wrong?
