Yemi granted release. (order of protection taken 4/22)

I wondered if this was issued by the university or by a ex-gf or something?

If it was issued by the university, seems like a very weird way to handle a dispute with a college student. Not good for publicity.

My guess is an incident of stalking or God forbid, assault. I would assume if it were for assault, he would be arrested and not just issued an order of protection.

This makes no sense. If it was that serious, this would have broken days ago. You don't just show up and get an order or protection without some kind of police involvement?

The UT student claimed that Makanjuola held her down and attempted to have sex with her on Feb. 15. The woman was granted a temporary order of protection on Feb. 19, according to Knox County Fourth Circuit Court documents.

Well okay....Still. Sort of odd we heard nothing about this? And the fact it was in between the Vandy / UK game and he played in both (small minutes but played). Seems like Martin would have booted him or set him on the bench then.

The victim files for an order of protection. The police aren't involved in that proceeding- they obviously are if criminal charges are brought.

It is public record, but I am sure this info wasn't looked into by the media until rumors came up about him leaving or until the university announced he was leaving.

No more speculation now. It all makes sense. Too bad we have pages of argument about whether or not he was forced out.

Makanjuola, 21, agreed to the final order of protection on April 4, which prohibits the UT sophomore center from making any contact with the student.

So much for it breaking days ago huh?

To me if he in fact did that he would have definitely been arrested. Hence the reason why CCM went scrambling for a replacement. Bad situation for Yemi hopefully this didnt happen a lot with him.

The initial order is temporary and issued without argument until there is time for a hearing date. While the mere accusation is disturbing, the university may have felt that there wasn't enough at that point to do anything. Then, when he agreed to consent to a full order of protection (lasts a year), then they probably had some recourse. A violation of an order of protection is a misdemeanor.

Yemi appears to be lucky that no criminal charges have been brought. May still be investigating. I am guessing that Martin has no time for such things and will not consider having this kind of a player. Criticize him all you want, but Martin is a straight up guy who won't put up with it.

Thanks for the explanation and I agree 100%. This makes sense that we scrambled to find a guy to replace Yemi's small minutes. Martin took the best guy he could find and I applaud him for that.

But the fact that no charges were ever filed against Yemi says a lot IMO

Not really. Plenty of women never file charges in cases like these. Its a he said, she said argument, and many women don't want to re-live the nightmare again on the stand and air the dirty laundry details of the whole incident.

This isn't a criminal matter, it's a civil matter (as long as he doesn't violate the OP).

OPs are ordinariily issued on an "ex parte" basis: an accuser goes down to Fourth Cir. Court and fills out a Petition. So long as there are proper allegations of domestic abuse, sexual abuse or stalking, Judge Bill Swann will sign an "ex parte Order" ordering the accused not to go around the accuser without any hearing on the facts. The actual hearing on the matter is set for no more than 15 days from the date on which the petition was filed.

These OPs carry with them a civil burden of proof as opposed to the much higher criminal burden (beyond a reasonable doubt). Ordinarily, the Fourth Circuit Court is very pro-Petitioner, and OPs are fairly easy to get. I wouldn't really worry about this too much. I doubt that an OP is the reason Yemi is leaving.

Stupid comment given the circumstances...

Stupid for you to comment on my stupid comment.

There was like a 10 minute delay of people wondering what was going on... try reading a few posts above before giving me a lesson in reading comprehension

+1. I posted it after I updated the page. It certainly wasn't on there when people received the text.

Would tend to agree but this doesnt appear to be the case here.

'According to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk, Knoxville Police responded to the initial incident before handing the case off to the University of Tennessee Police Department.'

She filed the OOP and that appears to be the extent. Unless I missed something.
