Yes, more guns are the answer

Fortunately, I have my pool secured. Not so much for those poor souls down the street. If any thug tries to steal my pool, I'll drown them in chlorine.

He may be unhappy and never had a pool of his own.

Okay, maybe a little too heinous. Rather I'll hit him over the head with my squirt gun, and smother him to death with my inflatable tube.

He had the intent to drown others with his petty ways.

Thats not equality. He should get a chance too.

For every single case where a gun is used like this, there are scores where crimes have been prevented or avoided. It is absolutely moronic to think legal restrictions will make the problem one iota better.

Wait, what? That is simply an incorrect statement of fact.

You may not agree with every assertion set forth here but this is a very serious and well researched take on the matter.

Guns and Self-Defense by Gary Kleck, Ph.D.

Upshot is that, while everyone may want to weight the argument more in "their" direction there is absolutely no getting around that guns are used a whole hell of a lot more in civilian defense scenarios than is commonly realized.

could the guy have picked a more annoying stationery as the background for that site?

Kleck's study has roundly been criticized.

Gary Kleck Numbers Often Disputed

It is well established that guns are used far more often to commit crimes than in self defense.

You whiffed badly here. OF COURSE Kleck's numbers are criticized. Anyone with a vested interest against his findings is going to come out against them with absolutely anything they can think of to subvert it. If Kleck (or anyone else producing similar results, you did note his findings are hardly singular, right?) had attached some pro-gun value to the equation 2+2=4 there would literally be thousands of people out there trying mightily to prove, or at least argue the possibility, that if 2+2 doesn't equal 5 it might actually be 3.999.

You even missed mightily on my original assertion. I stated from the outset I don't give a fig if you buy 100% into his assertions. The fact, and it's a simple one, is that guns are used for self defense a lot. And just to punctuate that a bit:
