Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

I’m sorry.. is there an actual debate on where to allocate funds between FedEx forum and the Liberty bowl???

Unfortunately, there is.

Ignorant Memphis Tiger fans getting in the way of good things for the city. Last thing that needs to happen is pissing off the Grizzlies. They can always leave. The Tigers will always be in the city.

do the tigers not play IN FEDEX FORUM

The grizzlies leaving downtown might be the final nail in the coffin down there regardless of how much developers spend

The Only reason the Tigers still play in the Forum is because the Grizz haven't kicked them out for a multi-year failure to reach contractual minimum attendance goals....

Given the size of the Tigers attending fanbase, the Tigers just need to use the Landers Center and maybe use FEF if they ever decide they want to schedule nationally again...

SMU, UCF, TCU, Cincinnati, and Houston all have stadiums in the 30-40k range. They all got into P5 conferences. No one cares if you play in a large dump near the ghetto. They care if you win and bring $$$ to the league...

I’ve been to UCF for AAC championship games. It’s a literal high school stadium. Aluminum and chainlink. You could pop open a bunch of cardboard boxes and erector set that bad boy in a few weeks for a couple mil.

And UCF got into a P5 and spent a third of what Memphis wants to pour into a 60 year old dump...

It would be as devastating as FedEx going under. The Grizzlies are critically important to the local community in every aspect.

UAB built a 41,000 seat stadium that cost $175MM. Why in the hell do we need to put more money into a crumbling dump?

Renovating the Liberty Bowl in hopes to get into a P5 conference argument is really dumb.

There are lots of dumps in P5 conferences. Neyland is a dump. Just go to the bathrooms. Davis-Wade, Jordan-Hare, and Ben-Hill Griffin have poor amenities too.

It’s simple. You give the Grizzlies organization whatever they need in order for them to sign another 10-20 year lease.

Agreed. The Liberty bowl stinks but it’s not in the top 3 (5?) of Memphis not getting into P5

The teams that have moved up are either good in football, in large(wealthy) market, fertile recruiting area, or rich enough booster base. Memphis is 0/4 in the things that matter...

Downtown is barely hanging by a thread. Losing the Grizzlies would be the nail in the coffin...

The Grizzlies is also the one and only professional sports team that Memphis will ever have. The market has shrunk since the franchise arrived in 01.

The Grizz is the only thing left in this city that I give a damn about.
