a serious candidate list

I would rather watch them win games with 3star players than loose games with 4 and 5 star athletes. If you consider anything about the current coaching staffs style of play flashy or sexy you need your head examined.

You missed the point, and no, I don't find anything this staff is doing, flashy or sexy.

I've seen Howland's name come up too many times. I don't think he is a very good basketball coach. He is an exceptional recruiter, but he has made a bad name for himself with player relationships and he has underachieved with the talent he had more often than not.

Before you point to his run of final fours I would be apt to point out that he had freakin' Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love on the same team and couldn't win it all. Tony Jones could have taken that group to the final four.

I think most that had to endure that mess of a thread understand my point now. Some stats mean jack shiznit and you have to see what's happening to analyze what's going on, not a sheet of paper.

I can't believe the terrible spacing. Reminds me of a 5 yr old kid's soccer game. Never seen a team throw is to a guy on the block from the wing and bring another wing player right over and bring a defensive player with him to cut off a lane.
Absolutely never have seen a team that can't create driving lanes for 6'7 slashers. Driving me crazy.

Sparty, it sounds like you're a basketball guy as am I. I literally can't watch it because of the amateur level of coaching. It truly reminds me of rec league play.

And Darren Collison, I think.

Howland knows how to put together a team. Plus has a 3 peat of final fours! I'd take him in a heartbeat!

You think he could recruit like that here? I don't. Martin has recruited reasonably well for a school like UT and has managed to not even remotely scratch the surface of the potential laid before him. Sounds exactly like Howland, but on a smaller scale.

I would like Rick Byrd if he were a bit younger. Guys like Marshall and Smart are laying in wait for big jobs much like Stevens did, so I don't think they are even in the realm of possibility.

Richard Pitino would be an interesting hire considering his pedigree, early success and youth, but he just got hired at Minnesota and would be unlikely to leave so early.

I think it will come down to hiring the next hot name that emerges after the tournament much like with Enfield last year.

Please no more lateral coaching changes. Pay what is required the get a top tier coach. Did you see the arena last night after half. It was completely empty past the fifth row. It was embracing to see on television. Please no more speculating. Basketball is a very lucrative college activity particularly at Tennessee when we have a respectable team. Right now this team is heading in the wrong direction. If I were Hart I would make a change while I still had the players to get the team moving in a positive direction. Next years recruits are all 3*. What do you think Martin will achieve with this level of talent in the next couple of years?????????

:whistling:

1) Yes, what ties to TN
2) No, shady as hell
3) No, Old and not leaving San Diego (Would you? Uh, never mind)
4) No, we've spurned him too many times
5) Yes, bring Rick home to Rocky Top

Lawrence Frank was an assistant under Kevin O Neil, back in the day.....

He was offered the job when Pearl left but he was the head coach of New Nets at the time and didn't want to leave. He only needed a few more seasons of NBA in order to get a retirement.

Didn't want to leave the NBA for a college job when he was so close to earning a retirement.

Yall are nuts. He would be here in a split second if offered.

We may soon see. This job would be a serious learning curve for him. While not a perfect example, it would be similar to Tennessee hiring Ken Sparks to coach the football team. Long history of success at C-N, like Byrd at Belmont, but a giant leap in competition, recruiting, public relations, etc. Just not sure that's the step I'd be looking to take at 60 years old, but maybe he'd want the challenge.
