‘18 QB Grad Transfer Keller Chryst (UT commit 3/1/18)

Wouldn't be surprised if this guy ended up starting here next year. I think it's clear this staff prefers true pocket passers in this offense.

Also doesn’t mean the staff doesn’t like JG, but maybe feel that a year of development and “unfudging” what the previous staff had done may be easier without being hit by SEC D lineman.

That makes some sense. They may not like McBride as a backup.

McBride showed some moxy but fans rating his performance versus Mizzou as better than a dude playing LSU, Bama and SCAR defenses need to look at how bad the Mizzou unit is compared to some of the best units in America. And still looked somewhat confused by that terrible unit.

I agree with that. I don't agree with some who seem to think he's a huge upgrade over JG. There is no real evidence of that. As depth he's fine but I'd be worried if this guy was being counted on as a day 1 starter.

Bad QBs don’t make anyone better...

Where are you getting a "Bad QB"? Our current guys were just young. The incoming guys would not be brought in if our coaches thought they were "bad."

But going all out in the off-season, both physically in the weight room and mentally with the new coaches, film and whatever playbook we have at this time DOES make someone better, and having an unknown experienced QB on the way does bring competition that should light a fire under somebody there now.

If I was the HC I would only want a one season wonder QB transfer if he could be here for SP. So if Chryst can do that he would qualify. If not, I would pass regardless of the horses in the current stable. You are going to give the same or more coaching attention and scheme design to the transfer as you will your current #2 if no transfer occurs. You can't really do enough of that if the transfer misses SP. JMO.

That's why I'm not really for this guy but we'll see.

Who would be our 3rd string QB next year? The new kid who threw like 30 picks last year in HS ball?

You take him

Chryst would be, at worst, 2nd string over McBride imo

JG also hasn’t proven he can stay healthy. He hasn’t finished a season uninjured since I believe his sophomore year of HS. Good chance if he’s the starter you’re gonna need your backup to perform at some point.

You honestly think McBride would start over Chryst? Cmon man

Not at all. Haha. I would maybe put shrout ahead of McBride. Just don't like grad transfers unless they're difference makers. This guy is not a difference maker.

Concussion he had in the game probably didn't help. I like McBride but not sure he fits what this staff wants. JG and Shrout do. And so do the two grad transfers

If JG got hurt this guy could be the difference between winning or losing ballgames.

I think he’s available because he’s not good at football. So I’d rather he...not not play good football...for us?

He's available because he's graduating and has a year of eligibility. Good QB's transfer all the time, this shouldn't be news. Stanford has been in the zone for a decade, they probably have 3 QB's that could start for UT in '18.

Do you folks who are against a transfer QB really think that only starting QB's at successful programs are good enough for the 2018 Vols? I have news for you, there are dozens of backup QB's who could step in and win the job in Knoxville.

I'm dumbfounded how people are so hardheaded they can't figure this part out. Are we really this stupid

I understand the points you guys are making so no need for the insult. I just don't think this guy is enough of an improvement for a one year rental. It's my opinion. I gave stats and my reasoning which has as much bearing on the coaches decision as yer opinion. If he enrolls and plays I'll root for him. Until then I will hope we find a better option.

I think he sucks. End of paragraph.

They have an incoming freshman and the freshman who took chryst job last season and is out injured for the spring. And he still wasn't gonna start next year for them.
