‘18 QB Grad Transfer Keller Chryst (UT commit 3/1/18)

5-10 lbs. on JG's frame will be about all we can expect without some serious deer antler spray. He's not a big boned, big framed guy.

The competition at the position is what is so important. Having two QB's that can at least manage games well and make a play now and then would help a lot.
Antler spay lol... I sold enough of that useless crap to last me a lifetime. Would literally tell people it was a huge waste of time and money unless you got ridiculous amounts of it.

That stuff is totally useless. Hope you made some money off it. lol. Just an attempt at humor in light of CJP's past employment at Bama.

Depends on if you get the kind that is produced in bama :)

Vijay Singh used it and was suspended....for whatever THAT means...

Ainge said he stoodnext to him recently and he is already at least 215. He said by the season don't be surprised if JG is about 225. The size thing is way overblown.

ESPN has “Stanford QB to miss Spring due to hip injury”.

Does this influence this kid’s decision?

Both of their scholarship qbs are missing spring. They will only have walk ons. And he still didn't like his chances there.

First I had heard of this. Kid must be set on leaving then.

Costello will be fine for fall. It's his job not an open competition. Chryst and Shaw agreed it was best for him to move on because Shaw doesn't think he needs to risk his final year as a backup when he can start plenty of other places and Stanford still be fine based on the fact that land a top 3 pro style QB each yr.

Doesn't matter if you get all reps in spring when the starter will be back in the fall

It's weird that shaw is encouraging chryst to leave when he won't have a single scholarship qb on the roster to participate in spring practice imo. And from what I've read only one walk on qb. Would seem like a good opportunity for chryst to take the job back if he thought he was good enough.

He isn't. He has never even completed 57% of his passes.

Shaw would let him stay but if your Chryst why would you if your told costello finished season as starter and will begin it as starter? Costello is younger and gives them just as much or more than Chryst. Long term play. Not every coach is Butch jones oh yeah son you can win this job back knowing that isn't the case.

Why would you stay when you can go to TN to a new staff where no position is set?

JG's tall, but he could stand to add some bulk. Maybe he will under the new S&C coach. Chryst has 35 lbs on him, in addition to more experience. I'm not advocating one QB over the other-- just observing that the coaches are looking at bigger, stronger players in general and experienced pro-style QBs, specifically.

And Vols4us added: "5-10 lbs. on JG's frame will be about all we can expect without some serious deer antler spray. He's not a big boned, big framed guy.

I just want to point out, y'all might want to update your info by seeing the thread about Vols take the polar plunge challenge ... JG does appear to have been bulking up and chiseling. Just sayin. :hi:

That is certainly one way to spin it. Admittedly I am spinning it too, but neither one of us know the real story so we are both speculating on their thoughts here. Also, why aren't any other schools recruiting this highly rated and experienced qb? And if I was Chryst and had any belief in my abilities, I would believe I could change shaw's mind being the only qb on the roster in the spring. Not sure what butch has to do with anything here. But I'm pretty sure most coaches don't tell kids they have no chance to start. They tell them work hard and they may get a shot. I think you got that part of yer argument backwards. Guaranteeing costello the job sounds more like the butch move in yer scenario.

McBride showed some moxy but fans rating his performance versus Mizzou as better than a dude playing LSU, Bama and SCAR defenses need to look at how bad the Mizzou unit is compared to some of the best units in America. And still looked somewhat confused by that terrible unit.

Bingo.

Those fairly rating McBride need to consider the true freshman vs redshirt freshman aspect and that the OL was at it’s worst by the time he was thrown in.

The ol was worse when JG came back too. Who played ol against lsu when JG had his best game? The true freshman thing is way more valid then ol imo.

The Kentucky game was JG’s best game...followed by SC. We were never in it against LSU. We had Jack Jones and Venzell Boulware available. By the time McBride got his one offing, it was Brooks and next available walk-on time.
