‘18 QB Grad Transfer Keller Chryst (UT commit 3/1/18)

All for multiple opinions. I'm not even saying Chryst would beat out JG as I hope he doesn't. There just is so much argument against it when there literally is zero harm in adding this player. It's a plus no matter how you play it.

If he beats out JG then he was a great pickup. If he doesn't he is a much better backup than what we have in roster. McBride is not a fit for this offense. Shrout has big potential but I really don't want him starting as a freshman.

Being ok with just McBride and Shrout as backups for a injury prone QB playing behind a bad OL is what I find completely odd. If Chryst or Minshew want to come help depth then I'm all for it

Ok with disagreement but categorize disagreement as odd. Coaches cast the deciding vote...I’ll roll with that.

I really am. But even if I wasn’t , there’s no way a guy with a half a year of eligibility is the most important recruit of the ‘18 cycle.

Probably not. But if JG gets hurt he could be the most important for the 2018 season.

Regarding scholarship numbers, I’m not sure it will matter for the 2019 cycle. We only have 10 seniors and will need 10+ underclassmen to transfer or graduate early to be able to sign a full 25 in ‘19

There should be a Kiffin/Dooley/Jones clause. Any team decimated by three azzhats in a row gets roster concessions.

I think that we will still sign close to 25. Pruitt knows a lot about how to manage a roster and he will maximize the number of signees now that he and his staff will have a full year to recruit.

YOU are probably correct. He already mentioned that he expects to play with 75-77 scholarship players next year, which means he expects to drop 6-8 guys this spring and summer

Still doesn’t mean the pantry’s empty. I’ll agree with you that it certainly seems that way because if the previous staff. I have hope this staff can figure out how to use a QB.

The pantry is pretty darn close to empty. We have 3 scholarship guys. We had 3 miss games with injury just last year. We need bodies. They also need the competition. JG needs to win the job every year if he's to be our QB.

I've said it before but I have some faith in mcbride when it pertains to what we have available. I haven't mulled through the stats, but just as somebody that watched the games, I think he has a lot of potential as a 2.

I wonder how big of a deal the ECU QB being able to enroll right away is? Maybe the coaches want to see where they stand with him after his visit before going on all in on Chryst? Having your new QB here for spring practice seems like a big advantage to the ECU guy if all else is relatively equal.

It sounds like we impressed him but I haven't seen any other schools pursuing him so it may not be that difficult. Also, just found this article about how bad the qb situation he's leaving is at Stanford this spring with Costello and Davis Mills both out injured. Mills reportedly suffered a setback to his ACL injury.

Report: Stanford QB K.J. Costello might miss spring ball with a hip injury - SFGate

"It was not known how serious Costello’s injury is — and when it occurred. A school spokesman declined to comment on the report.

But for the time being, Stanford faces an acute manpower shortage. Chryst is transferring, and head coach David Shaw said recently that freshman Davis Mills won’t play in the spring. He apparently had a setback on his injured knee in the fall.

The only other quarterback on the roster is sophomore Jack Richardson, a walk-on from Palma-Salinas."

“You got Swanson’d“

Chryst would compete for the job. The ECU kid is strictly back up though. Either way this is about depth.

JG had a better freshman year, with a worse team, in a better conference than Chryst had as a Jr who already played in a bunch of games.

How many wins does JG have as a starter?
