:toast: Congrats! A really nice pickup!
Things worked out well. The Vols got Chryst and the Tide got Minshew. Chryst is a better fit for y'all, imo. And Minshew's and Bama's somewhat odd situations match up well for both parties.
JG showed a lot of promise and toughness last season in a tough situation. Chryst is a reliable, productive, experienced QB who fits the style of offense Pruitt and Helton want to run. He adds much needed quality depth and the competition with JG for the starting job will make them both better.
Barton Simmons spoke to former Stanford OC that is Rice HC about Chryst a few days ago.
He asked him why Costello wasn't the starter to begin last yr over Chryst. Chryst was a two time captain that was an incredible leader. He had the locker room. He saved their 2016 season when he took over. He said he was outstanding in practice but for some reason it never fully consistently clicked in games. There would be games were it was on then some inconsistencies. Has big time arm and great mental makeup. If it clicks for him at TN he can be really good in Helton offense.
Sounds like we are getting a leader in the locker room that people rally around that has all the tools. Just needs to have it click all the time on the field like it does in practice instead of clicking on game or half and not so much another game of half

As a recruit: One of the nations top quarterbacks in the class of 2014, Chryst committed to the Cardinal during the summer prior to his senior year over programs like Alabama and USC.
As a Cardinal: After redshirting his first year on campus in 2014, Chryst served as a backup to Kevin Hogan in 2015. He lost the battle for the starting job in 2016, and he again started the year as a backup before eventually taking over the job from starter Ryan Burns midway through the year. Chryst started 2017 as the starter for the Cardinal, only to eventually lose the job to K.J. Costello. Chryst finished his Stanford career with 1,901 yards and 19 touchdowns in 23 career appearances. Chryst committed to Tennessee last month and has one year of eligibility remaining.
Farrells take: Chryst was highly ranked out of high school as the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the country, behind only Kyle Allen in 2014. Chryst was a big kid with a strong arm and solid accuracy, but he needed some work on his footwork and mechanics. I was never as high on him as some others because I worried about his competitiveness just based on a few camps and games I watched. I wasnt sold that he wanted it as much as some others, but his talent was too much to keep him outside the Rivals100. He could be an instant shot in the arm at quarterback for the struggling Vols offense.
