‘18 QB Grad Transfer Keller Chryst (UT commit 3/1/18)

Well, he's failed at two schools as HC.

I already said he wasn't ready..look I'm not gonna get trapped in a stupid argument about Dooley. He sucked, I ended up despising him, and I'm not defending him. I'm just saying it wouldn't totally surprise me for him to end up being a successful HC someday.

Wouldn’t surprise me if you state this 10 more times...in this thread alone

Jim Chaney, and to a lesser extent, Sam Pittman.

So you’re saying Dooley knows how to place solid offensive minds around him, too? I’m failing to see how that’s a negative.

They guy might fall flat on his face as an OC, but his track record shows very good offenses and understanding on that side of the ball.

I agree.

Ehh..I don't think he failed at LaTech. You got to remember he was the AD there also while he was the coach. That's a really big workload. Yes...he failed at UT....he was average at Tech. You won't know how good of an OC he is until next year. He's got Lock and all those weapons this year and won't miss a beat.

17-20 as HC at LA Tech. That's failure, IMO. I'm not suggesting that it will affect his ability to perform as an OC. Just that he has failed at two schools as HC. That is probably enough evidence to suggest that OC is probably his ceiling for success, and even that remains to be seen.

People usually have a ceiling. They might be great up to position coach level but just not meant to be a coordinator. Some are great up to the OC/DC level but flame out when they try to move up to HC level. DD has never been an OC so we will see where his ceiling is. Position or OC. We know he isn't a HC guy

According to that Bill Belichek should have never gotten the Patriots job. I get the logic to a degree, but I think there are examples of people who failed badly because they were not ready for advancement yet, but were able to correct mistakes..in other words they learned how to succeed from their failure.

I totally agree with yer logic but its weird that you don't seem to think it can be applied to our current players. You are very reluctant to acknowledge that any of them can learn how to succeed from their failure. And a lot of the criticism of why Dooley failed here was he seemed to have a bad attitude and lack the work ethic to succeed. Which is what some people are saying is why our current players failed and are busts. I do think he could turn into a good coach but referring to his own offense as wikipedia doesn't inspire confidence. Hahaha

Completion % is one of the most overrated states imo. That depends so much on the offense and the QBs willingness to take shots. Kirk Cousins led in the NFL in completion % two years ago with like 70%+ Bc all he did was check down and throw screens.

No way I’m putting tua better than him after a half of football. I do think Locke is good but i think if you put FitZ in Auburn’s offense with their athletes he do way better than stidham.

I think Florida is one of the most overrated states, but that's just me.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up HC again at a mid level and actually do well. He was nowhere 😉 near ready when he got the UT job.

It's still pretty crazy to think about some big what ifs with Dooley's tenure. If Hunter doesn't tear his ACL and if Wilcox either stays or we hire someone halfway decent as DC besides Sal... He might still be our Head Coach.

Dooley had a rough deal with injuries, but recruiting was about to bite him

he also had some rough deals against LSU and UNC in how those games ended.

recruiting was definitely hit and miss with him. i just never thought he was capable of being "that guy".

Lol sure, but 2013 would have been the end for him. First year coaches get a pass.

sure. but if you really want to play what ifs, what if Bray, Hunter etc...had stuck around for 2013....that's what i always wondered about.

anyway, doesn't matter now.........just random thoughts.

They would still have been awful with that molasses defense. A repeat of 12. Of course, we wouldn’t have gotten Butch if we were looking to hire in 2013. We might have been in a better position at this point to win based on who we would have hired.

Like you said, doesn’t matter now.

I definitely think bray stays. Not hunter. If Wilcox stays that year we win at least 8 games imo.

I hope so, I hope they turn out to be world beaters. Also I'm not defending Dooley..he sucks till proven otherwise. Now quit picking at me, I am trying not to be negative. 😀

Haha I know. Couldn't help myself. I can't wait to see Dooley's Wikipedia Offense though. :lolabove:

What if Jones had taken a hard line with Hurd and some others and called their bluff, kept Lawson, and continued to run a disciplined program after 2015?
