‘18 QB Grad Transfer Keller Chryst (UT commit 3/1/18)

They definitely don't get to the title game with Eason. Not because of Fromm, but because Chaney was forced to rely on the run game and not get all pass happy like he always has been. Fromm was a game manager, but I could see him being very good down the road. I could also see Chaney going back to his old ways and putting the game on his back and Fromm having a terrible sophomore year.

That’s a good point and will be interesting to see. Kirby seems like the coach who demands to run the call but losing Sony and Chubb and some OL are huge.

Manziel was a Redshirt Freshman. Guarantee you Pruitt would trade all of our QB's for Fromm in an instant.

Who’s writing him off?

Have you read this board? Go back and count the “he’s terrible,” “he’s going to transfer,” “he doesn’t have the mental fortitude,” “Chryst will be the starter” posts over the last several months. Some even calling for McBride! Yes, several have written him off. Some even after the first spring practice due to 8 mins of practice observation

^Good point but Fromm is also the reason they scored 10 second half points including OT. Bama tightened up and he got exposed for what he was imo.

Credit Bama more fault Fromm less imo. He was a big part of the lead that was frittered away...imo.

...again...he was a FRESHMAN.

Maybe wait a bit before deeming him "nothing special."

Name me a few other true freshmen qbs that performed that well....

I'll wait.

I didn't interpret that as what he meant. Fromm was good and will most likely be a very good (if not elite) college QB. But his role last year was "nothing special." He did provide more running that some other QB's, but he had a role to fill with so much other talent on the team.

I don't understand why that interpretation was so difficult.

Point being he did everything NEEDED to win. I don’t dismiss him because their running game was epic. Not every QB wins as much...Eason didn’t.

Yea, so what? Doing things needing to win with 21 other 4/5 star players is different than with 21 other 2 star players.

This argument is not that difficult, and it in no way means Fromm is bad. In fact, I expect him to get even better and be very good.

He didn’t do anything special. Their offense was mostly one read or set up off play action.

When you’re determined to simplify too much...you’re successful. 90’s Cowboys could’ve won A SUPER BOWL with Steve Buerlein... they were a dynasty with Troy Aikman. Same analogy applies here. Fromm MANAGED that offense to the NC game. Another QB doesn’t beat Oklahoma. Got no iron in the fire for Fromm but credit due credit earned. He didn’t throw for 500 yards...but he was available!

I’m saying this “needing” thing is a futile point. The quarterback brings it all together. And we’ve seen equally talented squads with lost seasons because of their quarterbacks. Kid did everything and MORE to get them to the NC game. Did everything and MORE to win it. Fell short. And thanks for using the douchey “not that difficult” qualifier instead of disagreeing honestly. :hi:

Meh. Quite a few say those things about the entire team. I haven’t seen many around here say JG sucks, I only read the recruiting forum. And the ones who do are likely on ignore. The majority of us just want to win and don’t care who starts. May the best man win.

True

They are still freshman. Never played a college game.

You're technically right. But the others all had a full season of preparation playing with other College players, training in an S&C program, and adjusting to CFB in general. Saying there's no difference is disingenuous.

I learn from the master, and that's a compliment.

But, it's not.
