‘18 QB Grad Transfer Keller Chryst (UT commit 3/1/18)

Do you think he thrives on our team last year like he did with Georgia? No freaking way. He’s a really good QB but he didn’t have to be great.

But the “great” was available. I think he performs better for our team and changes the outcome of four games at least...being conservative. He’s more likeable than past UGA QB’s Murray and Greene with the same maddening ability to pull out wins. Moments in a game where it’s clear that he’s Casey Clausen ice cold.

During the playoffs yes. Agree he played well enough. What I am saying is he had a bunch more help than most. Mansiel totally lifted his team above what they would’ve been. Georgia as a team helped lift Fromm

I don’t mark off for him having excellent talent surrounding him. I give him extra credit for playing within it...remarkably considering his freshman status...but remarkable in any case.

Tale of two QB's who played in the NC. Both had a very good OC and a very strong running game to support them. Name each QB.

153/267/2164 yds, 19 TD's, 6 Ints, 144 QBR

181/291/2615 yds, 24 TD's, 7 ints, 160 QBR

Some of you know the answer. The first is Tee Martin. The second is Jake Fromm. This whole back and forth has been a bit silly. Fromm did his as a true freshman, Tee was a junior who backed up the GOAT. Neither had meaningful snaps before they became starters. Both had really strong teams around them. They had similar styles - they ran on passes when coverage was good and a running lane was open. They hit enough passes down the field to keep the D's honest and hit a few home runs along the way.

You win big with both. Proven. Fact. In Fromm's case he has three years to improve in the passing game behind a quality O-line that looks to be as strong going forward as it was last season. We will have our hands full.

We win more with JG or Chryst - would prefer JG since he will be here past next season unless he leaves if he doesn't win the job. So its on him, not Chryst, to prove he can be the man. One or both of them need to get on the same page with the quality receiving corp we have along with improved line play. So this all comes down to the O-staff developing the offensive roster well.

Carry on.

Walks into thread. Notices a few pages behind in less than a day. Wonders what has happened.

Oh, just butchna and Jacket going at it, Bruin style again.

31-10, 41-14, 31-3, 41-0, 45-14, 42-7, and 42-13.

In the 4 games where he had the most pass attempts, he lost two of them, won one by a point, and won the other in OT.

My point is that a true freshman quarterback wouldn’t need to throw the ball with scores like that.

Yea, I think that was the point made by several. He played well for them but wasn't asked to go out and win a bunch of games. In fact, when he had to throw it more was when they lost or played their close games.

Having a bad game now equals “exposed”?

lol come on man.... every one of the greats had bad games

Bama did the same to him in the Natty game. He’s not a great but not a bad QB. But people are acting like Georgia rode him to a Natty birth. That wasn’t the case at all. I’m confident JG would’ve looked equal to Fromm if he was at Georgia last year. I also think Fromm would’ve been as bad or worse than JG in that offense we were running last year.

Fromm didn’t have a Florida of the 90s Level team on his schedule. When he did play a good defense(Auburn) he got exposed. But fans won’t see that at all.

The team he played against in the SEC Championship game? Seemed ok.

Nobody’s acting like Fromm was “rode”. But he was more a piece of the total pie than you guys credit. I’m equally “confident” that JG costs UGA a game or two in the transition but would’ve more likely given the job back to Eason. Equally confident that Fromm would have come through and won at least four more games than what UT’s QB’s managed last season. He definitely beats Florida by limited mistakes alone.

i think Fromm had a fantastic season. freshman QB, 5* expectations, had to come off the bench, and he executed what they wanted him to do, to damn near perfection.

i think you can give him A LOT of credit.

that said, when you talk about 2017 UGA, and why they were successful, it's Defense, Running game #1 and #2 at teh top of the list. and having Fromm be who he was, is probably a very close 3rd.

i don't think Fromm makes a huge difference on the 2017 Vols, maybe we get to 6 wins and go to a bowl. but he doesn't take TN from 4 to 8 or 9 wins.

likewise, i think JG would have been better on the 2017 UGA team, and probably could have won the East. i don't know they win the SEC Title game or go to the playoffs with him. but 10 wins and a division title, and a NY6 bowl? yeah, i could see that.

we had a pretty bad team when it was all said and done last year. UGA had a really really good team when it was all said and done. and neither was defined by the QB.

You can think what you want. I’d love to know the chances of another duo doing what Chubb and Michel did considering it’s never been done. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

Michel was a poor man’s Kamara. Chubb while good is nothing close to his freshman/sophomore form.

Swift is faster than both and a better receiver than Michel. They also have Holyfield and two new 5 stars coming in. Plus a much better offensive line. The drop off you think is coming, isn’t.

Prolly not long. Swift outrushed both in the SEC Championship game...in only 7 carries. They have the top rated incoming runningback. Throw in Holyfield and you might have that defining epic TRIO...wouldn’t that be a hoot?
