’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I would agree that those listed are great and at face value would be a tough call, but I take the Berry's for the intangibles.

The family message is important. The Berry's are important.

It all depends if how this has all gone down.

If they are silents then by All means they must be in the class.

But if they wanted to wait then this train had to move on IMO

I think you have to look at the class as a totality. So, the real question is, are they in your top 30?

That's the way I look at it too. We will lose some people between now and Feb. Are the Berrys top 30 material for UT....IMO.....absolutely.

I understand Bruins argument against, but my opinion is, we have positions of need to fill every year and you are not going to get all the people you want to fill them. These coaches have shown they are not afraid to get crative in their movement of people. Let them get whio they want and move them around accordingly. Hopefully it's the Berrys.

Yes they are but that isn't how it should work.

If they are silents the staff took a few too many commitments early on IMO.

If they haven't gotten on board for what ever reason their opportunity has past unless we strike out on that list I posted IMO

Locking up the Berry's sends an important message, but I guess that's a different discussion. There are two important dates IMO. The start of EE and Signing Day. If we have 9 guys EE, and we have 21 spots left (as an example), I deff want the Berrys to be two of those 21 spots, even if I have to make tough decisions.

I get what you are saying, I guess time will tell. Ive been in the camp that says Butch knows where the twins are going and when they are gonna make it official.

The thing I havnt seen discussed(I am sure it has been) is has there ever been any talk of the 2 splitting up???

Any chance we get only 1??

As much as I would love to see us add another HS DT & a Juco DT to this class, if it meant we lost out on the Berry twins I would not do it. The twins MUST be a part of this class. No exceptions, no discussion, it just has to be that way. If we have to pass on Garrett, Jackson, Reed, whoever, so be it.

Haven't really thought about them splitting up. My take is that they may want to do that because they have done everything together their whole lives especially playing football. I don't know what they're thinking but it's a possibility they want to venture out on their own.:twocents:

Interesting. I respect that opinion but disagree.

I would say 90% twins want to stay together. Just curious if this was one of the 10%

I'm cool with this as long as Evan is a CB and Elliott is a OLB. That's where we need help the most, and that's where I think both will end up. If Gaulden ends up a good CB here, I could even see Elliott as a SS if need be. I think both will be redshirted and hopefully in 2015 both will be great ST players and great depth for us. I think Evan has the ability to come in and play right away as a kick returner on ST, but I think Vic will ultimately get that role with Young and Evan will be redshirted.

What just happened here? :jawdrop:

I believe the reason a lot of fans arnt overly excited about the berrys because the are not as highly rated as other targets which is completely irrelevant because they dont attend camps.... heres 3 things 2 think about 1 they have offers from every sec school how many prospects can say that..2 theyre brother says they are better than him and from what i know about eric is he is very competitive and would not say that if it wasnt true and 3.. they are basically the only players on their team and they care more about winning than stats which is why there team is good unlike most high school players

CBJ job is to get the best 30 players possible. Their last names are irrelevant

I 100% agree with this and have argued this exact point before on here; however, Elliott and Evan are very good athletes and would bring much needed speed to our defense. I'm going to be upset though if we try to use Evan as a RB or slot WR. Same goes for Dews at WR. We need these raw athletes on defense to gain some speed back. Dews, Evan, and Elliott may not see the field in terms of ample playing time until 2016/2017, but until then we can develop these guys like we want. Great teams have certain players who come into a game with one speciality, such as a pass rusher. This is how I see Elliott and Dews here. I see Elliott as a cover LB in the nickel and I see Dews as a SLB pass rusher on passing downs. I think Evan can turn into either an every down CB or a nickel CB.

I appreciate what you are saying, but these two brothers won't ever compare to Eric. Eric is a legend. I went to college with Eric and saw him everyday between classes, and that man didn't have a day that went by that someone wasn't yelling at him, etc. He's one of the best S to ever play here, and he's the best S in the NFL in my book.

I think the Berrys are in the top 30(if we were starting from 0) but I also don't know how many casualties we might have. So if we really do only have 3 spots no one here can convince we don't had bigger needs.

So where does the "gets it" crowd stop with the favoritism. Will they then Suggest the Berrys play over better players on the roster like they are suggesting they are takes over bigger needs???

since they're twins, maybe we can trick some people and only count them as one scholarship. maybe people won't realize it (and just think that Berry guy is all over the place)

IF one plays only offense and one plays only defense, they could have the same # jersey :)

I am being very sarcastic, but it could work
