’14 GA DB Evan Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I'm willing to bet they have committable offers to LSU, just cause of Chavis. Georgia is instate but with how Eric was treated, doubt they would go there anyways. The rest is just speculation.

Evan is a big time athlete, he could really blow up this summer if they hit camps. Not as much is said about Elliot but I would say he is plenty talented enough to play in the SEC at any school.

Did EB meet Richt over the middle?

Seriously though, what happened with him and UGA?

I guarantee they have spots saved and available at UT. They both have alot of big time offers and im sure more to come. They will both be waited on and have spots available.

I'd be surprised to see Elliot play LB. just doesn't look big enough.

If I recall, Eric said Mark Richt had his name written on his hand when he met him. Pretty shocking considering how highly ranked he was at the time.

Yes I can read, realistically looking at it they would go to only the two I mentioned. IMO. GA, LSU, SC non-commitable offers, UT, KY, MO, AU, CLemson, commitable offer. UT, AU have been recruiting the hardest.

If they wanted to committ to GA, LSU or SC or USCwest they would be accepted without a second thought. They both have SEC talent and committable offers from GA, LSU, both USC, AU and Clemson and of course UT says it all. Not sure why this is even being debated. They will be Vols but could go play anywhere they want.

This thread will be going in circles on this topic until the Berrys announce.

It's like a bad twilight zone! Get me out of here!

Not really. The Berry twins are a huge part of this class and at positions of serious need.

yes, really. we already have a slew of highly ranked db's in the mix.

OL & DL are much more important at this point. much much more.

if not for the name, this would not even be a discussion...

I think they ate them most important gets of this class for a variety of reasons. For one, that's 2 great players at once. And also because of what they stand for. The berry's are royalty at tn. Point bank...if be more excited to hear the berry's had committed than anyone else. Including dillon bates (although that'd be some amazing news as well)!

what in the world are you talking about

what?

you are seriuos that you would take evan berry over dj smith, or wesley green for that matter?

you would take elliot berry over dewayne hendrix or mouhon?

that's ridiculous

I am not taking anyone over anyone. We have 28-31 spots available. As a fan who values a legacy recruit and what they mean to a program, YES, My top 3 "wants" left in this class are Bates and the Berry twins. You don't have to agree. I'm not taking Berry over Hendrix, or Berry over Smith, as there is a lot of room to take them all.

thing is it doesn't seem that many on here care about actual "legacy recruits". they care about "berry".

out of all the players left out there and they are in your top 3? you must be basing that on their name alone..

How do you feel about the legacies without offers?

It depends on if they are SEC type players or not. Of course I could never be upset if the coaches did not offer a kid because he could not play at Tennessee. Not every legacy recruit will be an SEC athlete. Most feel that both Berry twins are high caliber players and thus the reason I think they are very important to this class. Would I like to see guys like Cook and McDaniel get offers? Yeah, I would. I understand why the coaches would go in a different direction in some cases though. Not so much on Cook as he is rated pretty high, but I guess CBJ likes the (2) TEs he got.

The TE's Wolf and Helm are elite athletes. Just being a "legacy" isn't enough.
CBJ is going after difference makers. He is targeting top talent. I love what he is doing with the alumni, but you have to get the best players you can.
We've only just begun on our way back to Tennessee's place as a national power.
Get the best players on campus and let this coaching staff do their thing.
We're on our way back.

Evan and Elliot are elite athletes. Evan is a composite 4* so he is no slouch. I think what hurts Elliot is he doesn't have a clear position to project to. If both of these kids had went through spring camps they would both be 4*s and we wouldn't be having these conversations.

Both are really good athletic football players though.

Just being legacy isn't enough? I'll take a legacy that is loyal to UT any day. Just as people on here would say that if a legacy doesn't pick us he doesn't bleed Orange. Can't have it both ways.

I look forward to cheering for Evan, Elliot, and Dillon.

Go Vols

No, not really. Being in the mix doesnt mean dick.We were in the mix for Bell and many others last class. Were in the mix for alot of guys but that doesnt mean we get them. We need atleast 6 DB's in this class. Yes we do need OL and DL but we are in a rare situation to be able to sign 31 this year so we arent struggling for open slots right now. Its not just their name either, they have elite offers and you dont get those based on just a name. They may not be EB elite but how many players are?

Why would one have to be taken over the other? All of them can be taken and we are in great position to land them. Hendeix and Mouhon play different positions than Berry so that arguement doesnt make sense. Bates,Smith, Green, McDowell, Mouhon, Hendrix, MiClisse, both Berry Brothers, Gaulden, Ford are all takes and have great chances to get for our D Class. Its not like anybody is saying take either Berry over the others. Shouldn't even be a discussion because all are takes.

Those are his top guys he wants. He isnt saying they are better than anybody else. Im sure you have your list of guys you prefer, right?

I hear that there are currently 12 5* recruits left.
I'll be a Star Gazer and put that dozen on my list....

+1

I will celebrate the day the Berry twins recruit as much or MORE than the day a Hendrix, Ford, or Mouhon commits. Losing out on the twins would be a huge loss IMO. Both kids can ball and both kids could end up playing several positions. The fact that EB14 would tend to be on campus a lot more if his brothers were here is just another huge bonus and help in recruiting going forward.

I don't think anyone is saying we don't want the Berry twins. They are good players that we would love to have in this class, BUT they do not make or break this class.

There are many guys we are in on that if it comes down to taking either the Berrys or that player, the Berrys won't be a part of the class.

I think his point is that if we take more than 6 DBs, then it's going to be at the expense of another position group. With TKjr. and Payne already in the fold, we probably have four DB slots left. According to most on here, Gaulden and McDowell are heavy UT leans. Who knows if we land Smith or Green, but both look better than either Berry.

I dunno. I'd like to see both Berrys, even though I think Elliot is probably a nickel or safety rather than LB. I'm just not sure UT doesn't have better options right now.

And, it seems like new DBs possibilities keep popping up. I don't think taking them is a foregone conclusion, period, like some posters keep saying.
