IF these conspiracy theories actually come to fruition and EB does actually pay their tuition year one, I'd expect an immediate rule change from the NCAA for the next season. This kind of thing would open up the floodgates for teams to start circumventing signing rules and 85 scholarship rules with the use of rich donors as either parents or "family friends" or any number of other crap. Just think about it, Haslam throws $2mil at the program and every UT player is suddenly a walk-on, but all tuition is covered because of ol' Uncle Haslam.

Sorry, but it won't. This is nothing new, and it is not normal. There are far more kids who have to rely on a scholarship than not. Even if a parent is in the upper middle class and makes 6 figures, a scholarship is very beneficial because of education costs these days. This is just a unique situation. The only way this works is if an immediate family member has a bunch of money (just like Kyle Kuric's doctor father did for him at Louisville).

What if the Berry twins were just two inner personalities of Eric Berry within his dream.

He was dreaming the whole time.

Eric Berry is the highest paid safety in the NFL. Take one look at the donations Peyton Manning has made to the university over the years and your case holds no water.

NFL players are notoriously broke after their playing days for throwing away money. That's my only point.

No I'm saying if you have a free ride, you don't have to spend your money. Cause it's free. If it's the Berrys idea they can do whatever they want. But nothing at all suggests it's their idea. Why doesn't Peyton just pay for everyone then?

Because Peyton doesn't have kids, brothers ect. Look, I can see your point and it really doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I personally don't see the difference from a money standpoint if Eric gives $50,000 directly to the AD or $50,000 through his brother's in the form of a semester's tuition.

From a standpoint of how it looks to the outside world, I could see how one would make the case that the Berry's would look like they didn't earn the scholly even though we all know they have.

I know if it were me, regardless if I had played for the Vols or not, and I had a child that was highly recruited (or two as in this case), and if I were wealthy, it would be my pleasure to help out my university to pay my kids way in order to free up a couple of scholarships when they desperately need them. That's just me though and I realize others wouldn't feel the same way.

I think there are restrictions to this. I think they can't come on official visits to the school, which the Berry's have not strangely enough. There are other restrictions too but I am not sure what they are. Keep in mind there are many students across the country that walk on and receive scholarships later. That is basically the same thing here.

No, he's dead on. Not sure why anyone should either speculate or assume that Eric should pay his hard-earned money for his brothers' education when they will have rightfully earned their scholarships.

If he comes out and says he's gonna do it then fine. But I have a feeling there will be some people on here playing the class warfare card and criticizing him if he doesn't.

1. He was wrong that EB wasn't guaranteed a ton of money. He signed before the new cba.

2. No one on here has said he should do it.

I understand your point, but those guys throw their money away on strip clubs, gambling, and extravagant parties....not college educations.

Most of their money goes to bad business deals, gambling, swindlers, and just general poor money choices. Not that I'm saying Eric is in that same boat, but "donating" their entire college education is a large chunk of money and nothing to be taken likely.

There is the option that they only have to pay for this fall, but I'm not sure if they even qualify for that.

First he did get guaranteed money, $34 million on a "$60 million" contract, didn't think that was in dispute. All top draft picks get substantial guaranteed money to different degrees.

Second, I have read numerous posts in here from people advocating that "he has the money" and that not only could he do but should do it to help the program. I think it's stupid and insulting to suggest he should. If he does then fine. But no one should ever approach him about doing so and no fan should criticize him if he doesn't. Think it's a moot point anyway. The twins have earned their schollies IMO.

But those are the stupid or irresponsible ones. I don't believe EB falls into that category. That said, I would be very surprised if EB were to pay for their scholarships.

The twins EARNED a scholarship.

This horse has been beat to death, but I've still got to say college athletic scholarships are awarded, not earned.

All you guys getting so heated toward those suggesting it would be cool if this happened are hard to understand. Its clear no one really thinks this will happen nor does anyone think Butch is asking them to make it happen. Why all the venum?

Oh I don't think so either. I'm just saying smart money takes advantages where there are some (scholarships). Donations are fine, welcomed, and tax-deductible. Paying for your brothers' educations (at least partially) IMO disrespects them (walk-on status), wastes money unnecessarily, and isn't tax deductible.

I'm pretty sure it is tax deductible.

I have to say that I brought the idea of EB paying his brothers' tuition as a joke several months back. I had no idea that it would take on a life of its own. It has been interesting to see all the responses though. I'm to blame for this debacle and you can flame me for it if you like. GO VOLS!!!!!

It's tax deductible if they were his dependents, which they are not. I'm not sure how it works if it was gifted, but then you are talking earned income and higher tax brackets maybe. Ain't nobody got time for dat.
