‘20 NC SG Jaden Springer (UT commit 10/23/19)

Is Memphis only taking 1 more player? I was under the perception they had quite a bit of room?

A memphis buddy of mine who follows it really close just told me that Penny asked Springer for commitment and Springer said thanks but no thanks. Now we all know that second hand info is not always concrete but they seem to have conceded Springer to us. Hence the reason they have moved on to this target which has not even listed Memphis as o e of his finalists

I guess I don’t take one to mean the other, they want and are trying with multiple guys...don’t think it has anything to do with Springer. Again, that doesn’t mean positive with Springer, I just don’t think it means negative either.

I didn't predict anything. I suggested how over signing by one player in 2020 could be handled:
~JJ James is one-and-done.
~Fulkerson grad transfers.
~J Johnson grad transfers.
~Kent stays in school, gives up basketball, and gets a medical scholarship.
~Pons is cut.
~ZK is cut.
~Pember becomes a walk-on.
~things don't work out for one of the 5 new comers playing in 2019-20.

About 3 of those are likely. I called Walker leaving this year on another board and people were sure I was FOS. I'm not calling this one yet

Not sure Memphis would be visiting so soon if they didn’t have some reason to believe that it’s possible for Springer to commit to them. Doesn’t look like Springer closed the door on Memphis.

Right, like I said above when BO was excited about that tweet, I don’t think it meant anything in regards to Memphis...no, I’m not saying Springer is headed to Memphis, but I think it’s pretty clear that Springer also didn’t inform the Memphis staff he was coming to Tennessee.

I could also see Memphis using this as a mind game. Keep pursuing until the last minute even if it's a lost cause as it creates doubt in a fanbase.

Y'know, when Shaq was playing with Hardaway, in Orlando, Shaq reportedly accused Hardaway of being a whiner---i.e., a complainer.
Last year, Hardaway could have taken the high road, when UT beat his team; instead he accused UT of balling up their fists. When that was proved to be bogus,
he then went after Coach Barnes in the media...with more whining.

Hardaway does not care as much about signing the player, as he does of keeping UT from signing the player, from the look of it.

The player's family has been around basketball way, way too long to fall for that shuck 'n' jive Hardaway is doing.
Hardaway is just trying to get over on the athlete, so he can be a pain to UT.

If the athlete falls for it, then Hardaway has accomplished his purpose
two-fold.

But the fact that Hardaway would use the kid like that in some media drama shows what Anfernee the Whiner's true priorities are.

The Springer family is a class act. So are Rick Barnes and UT.

Memphis basketball is and has been, through several coaches before the Whiner arrived, dirty as a whorehouse the morning after.
UT got rid of the coach who turned out to be dirty.
Memphis has kept hiring them, until the Whiner arrived.

He may be clean as a whistle. But it's Memphis. We shall see if TIgers change their stripes.

Springer is too good and he and his parents too smart to fall for some second-rate all-out song and dance.

GO VOLS!

FYI, I would take everything this Jake Weingarten says with a grain of salt. I know his tweets are referenced a lot in here. He's an 18-year old reporter who doesn't have that many real sources. He was exposed during the Kerry Blackshear ordeal. He was constantly sending out information on Twitter with KBJ updates and everything was either incorrect or already publicly stated by other, more knowledgable recruiting insiders. Not saying Penny isn't meeting with Springer, but just in the future disregard a lot of what this kid has to say. He essentially just regurgitates what he is hearing on the Forums as his own information.

Memphis is either using their in home this early to try to sure up a commitment following the visit or as a last ditch change to get Memphis back into consideration after being told no. Considering how Spinger has been solid in saying he'll take all his visits I think Memphis is desperate to hold on.

FWIW, Rob on the VQ Podcast said today he thinks Memphis isn't nearly as big of a threat as many want to believe and that a lot of it is just "Memphis homers" trying to convince themselves he'll come.

And, he also mentioned that the Tennessee staff called Cam Hayes two weekends ago and told him not to visit (this past weekend). He said that doing was an indication about how strongly they felt about Springer.

That’s good news, I am always going to be a bit worried when Memphis gets involved with a recruit/target of ours
