'09 TN DL Daniel Hood (merged)

Okay this might come across the wrong way, but is the risk worth the reward?

What is this kids talent level? Can he come in and play right away? Will he be a dominant OT?

you guys are seriously making me sick to my stomach.... if this were any other player going to any other team you guys would be trashing him with no mercy

13 years old.Does any one remember the difference in their own mind set between the ages of 13 and 18 or 19.Look at it in this manner. This kid has handled it to point that this has brought him this far.No small feat in and of its self.Think of how tough this kid has to be to have gotten this far.In this situation I feel determination facilitates redemption.

Seriously? I knew at age 13 that sport rape of an adolescent cousin with a plunger was wrong... and I wouldn't have sat there giggling while it happened. Pretty sure at 19 I felt the same way, and I still do at 33.

I hope the kid pulls it together. However, I don't want him representing my University, which I love like family, on the biggest stage.

I have been reading volnation for a while now, but never registered because I thought that I would waste too much time if I started posting on here. But I had to register for this one. How can anyone justify what this kid did? I don't care how old someone is, you learn not to rape people before you are 13. And to everyone who says that he just watched, how does that make it any less horrifying? If I saw someone plunger-raping my cousin, I would attack them like a wild animal. And I would punch them until I couldn't move my arms. Please Hamilton/Kiffin, don't let this be true. It isn't even confirmed that he is on the team, but this kid is already tearing our fanbase apart. Despite what other people have said, this is in no way a "feel good story." How sick are you if you feel good about this kid playing for the vols? The national media called for Kiffin to be fired before the season starts because he used a fog machine. You think he will be applauded for taking this kid? The bottom line is, he is already a huge distraction and controversy. This needs to be ended immediately. Do not let him on the team. Please.

you learn what you are taught, nothing more or less.

i'm sorry but if you can get past the third page of that document posted on the first page and can feel alright cheering for this guy on saturdays.... suit yourself

i don't feel it is my job to judge a person, but i somehow feel as if i'm condoning that horrific act if i welcome hood and act as if nothing happened

do you guys understand wat he did.... come on that was a repulsive act that in my opinion is severe enough to deserve life in prison i don't care if he was young or not every one of you were mature enough at that age to understand how gruesome wat he participated in was

The age of 13 in my opinion is definitely old enough to know the difference b/t right and wrong. If they decide to give him another chance, I would hope it would not be on a scholarship.

Life in prison at 13 years old? This is a tough one. One that I wish UT would not put itself in the middle of, but how many of us actually know this kid? I pray to God everyday he would forgive me for the thoughts and desires I had at that age. It's an extremely tough time for a kid.

And smokeytop, there is big difference between knowing the difference between right and wrong and developing the courage to stand up for what you believe in. At 13, I don't think you have all that sorted out, yet.

Don't go bashing on me cause I did state that I wish UT would distance itself from this situation, but I've also seen the other end of this. It's a horrible situation and I would never want my daughter to have to go through something like this, but the other party is a human being, as well. Why should I be worthy of forgiveness if I am not willing to forgive someone else?

Yep. And don't want to be in a position to have to defend him or our coaches decisions.

What he did wasn't the equivalent of setting off some cherry bombs in mailboxes or firing a potato gun at a car passing by....

Those are some childhood pranks that have the potential to go violently wrong and result in serious injuries....

If Hood had done something along those lines you could say..."He's a good kid who pulled a stupid prank that ended up hurting someone....it was stupid but he should be given a chance to learn from it and move on"

Holding down your own family member while someone rapes them with a foreign object is a whole other ballpark...that is undeniable sociopathic behavior that can't just be blown off...

No way should this kid be given the gift of playing for UT...I don't care how young he was...

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! im sorry but you have lost it.

Hell yes i remember my mindset when i was 13 compared to now (im 21) and i know that there was no way on gods earth this act would have even crossed my mind.... as a matter of fact if my best friend even mentioned doing this to my cousin i most definately would have gone after him with the intent to make sure he never showed his face around my family again.....

come on do i remember my mindset when i was 13? yes and so do you stop acting like he was oblivious to how wrong this was

I am not defending his actions!Just stating EVERYONE deserves a shot a redemption!

People worry about standing in front of the good lord to be judged.I say thank god for it.Because being judged here by people who dole it out here, truly have no knowledge of the concept of forgiveness.

Okay...the 13 vs. 18 maturity debate is starting to wear thin on me.

I could understand shoplifting, maybe messing around with a recreational drug, perhaps even getting into an altercation with someone where someone ends up with a bloody nose.

These are immaturity obstacles. These are obstacles where basically you only hurt yourself. Not a family member in a scarring fashion.

Wonder what kind of thoughts an adult sex offender has at 13? Just a question. Since 13 and 18 are so different.

finally some logic :good!:

is there any way to substantiate the rumor that he is signing. Before we all go crazy debating the right/wrong of the issue, do we even know if it is legit? I have seen more "rumors" on the Internet about Lane Kiffin than about who shot JFK!?!

I guess my mentality was different from yours at the age of 13. I would have had the courage to at least try and stop this.

You don't want this as a black eye that you have to defend because you would rather all the bad guys be on other teams so that you can trash them for it?

one word describes this comment.... dumb... you completely put words in his mouth that is not wat he meant at all...

i dont recall him saying hood should be allowed to play ANYWHERE and this isnt a typical "black eye" offense this is deeply wrong on every level....

I am sorry but you can't tell me he didn't know the difference between right and wrong. He covered her up with a blanket when the other girl knocked on the door?!

we are not judging him as a person.... we are simply saying we don't want his actions representing our program or our university

I agree, everyone deserves a shot at redemption. But is his redemption really best defined by having a chance to play football at UT? Hardly. He's got bigger fish to fry. Pretending that the opportunity to "redeem" himself is best served by letting him play football is laughable.

As for forgiveness and the judging... Before you get to caught up in the high and mightiness, consider how yourself and many here who are extolling the virtues of giving him a chance would, using an example I suggested earlier, give the same shot at redemption to a 2.7 GPA non-athlete pursuing a liberal arts degree. I'm guessing most wouldn't be quite as adamant in what he does or doesn't deserve.

Really? So you were put in a position like this at the age of 13 and you reacted exactly like you wanted to? I don't believe a person knows exactly what they would do until they have actually been in the fire and forced to make a decision.
