'09 TN DL Daniel Hood (merged)

This is all on a 'case-by-case' basis.

We don't have all the information we need, but we know CLK would not do this if he wasn't confident in his ability to manage it.

very important point - alot of people seem to think that kiff and hamilton are boobs and are somehow not aware of all facts of the case, that they are somehow being snowed by a bad egg. if they're ok with him being in the program, so am i.

Well Hubbs is standing by the rumor storm he created he said apparently its up to admissions and the UT president now and not the AD or Kiff.

I've had mixed feelings about this, but I think if the coaches take the proper steps it will be OK. I tend to agree with the walk on scenario being the best way to go at first, but if it happens it appears he will probably be offered a scholly.. For what it's worth, the kid is VERY bright. I'm pretty sure I read he scored a 28 or 29 on the ACT. Academics shouldn't be a problem for him. Hopefully, he'll work his a$$ off and keep a very low profile.

My views on this is a mixed bag. What he did is unforgivable and should not be take lightly. I think the lay of burden goes more on the older cousin and the dad. I hope that through this tragic event he learned his lesson. I would like to see him walk on and see him prove it on the field. As a coach you always want to improve and make your kids lives better. Thats why you get into coaching is to make a difference hopefully if he plays at Tennessee it makes him a better man, a productive member of society.

I did some really stupid stuff at the age of thirteen...I'm glad no one holds me to it today, I'm all for a second chance...

Did you watch your cousin get raped with a plunger and do nothing about it?

I too have mixed feelings. While nobody can deny that this act was horrible, I think at age 13 he didn't create the situation, he was kinda put there. It is hard to say what shoulda, coulda, woulda happened back then with the incident and the court decisions, but we are a long way past that. If he has, and will continue to prove himself as a decent person, he should get a chance to clear his name.

Remember he is the one that has to live with this. If it makes him learn and become a better person, then who is to say he should pay for this for the rest of his life?

I believe in second chances.

I don't believe that UT needs to be the one to give it to him.

I do not know this kid from Adam, but I hope this kid gets in and turns into a Dale Jones type since be has been Orange Blooded all of his life. I also hope he makes All-American and then tells all of you holier than thou people to take a hike. This kid was 13 when this happened and not 18 like Jason Respert, but you were able to excuse him because he was a high school All-American.

I really wonder just how many recruits we sign have some kind of problem that we never know about since they come from other states.

The people who want to crucify him are just a bunch of hypocrites. If you want to worry about tarnishing your degree then we probably need to look at players who break a kid's jaw in pick-up basketball games, or kids distributing pot from the plants in their dorm rooms. Those were 18 year old's and not a minor at the time. If the goal was to recuit saints, then we have missed the mark entirely.

I still believe this is someone that UT can do without. Let him go to Long Island U. Second chance-yes, but not in college football at UT.

Wonder how his cousin feels about how well Hood's life has been going? Gee, wonder what her life has been like since the incident.

Do you really think a kid selling pot in college is the same as helping rape your cousin?

You are talking about the judgement of a middle school kid versus an 18 year old and they both broke the law. If what the 18 year old did was not so bad then why was his tail sent to Oklahoma?

When your 13, you still know rape is wrong. When your 13, you know anything sexual involving a cousin is wrong.

Theres a massive difference in helping rape part of your own family and selling weed. Honesty, alcohol is far far worse than weed either way though.

I am not and will not justify what Hood did was right be any means even at 13, but kids are influenced by those around them and so are 18 year old's.

My read is that the kid was 13. He was big guy who made friends with someone his size, a bad 17 year old.

The 17 year old was the leader. Daniel was a follower. He made a terrible mistake, but that should not be the end of his life. He screwed up, in a seemingly unforgivable fashion.

But, who is he now? What did he learn from that colossal mistake? What has he learned over the last 5 years? What values does he have now? Has he reformed himself?

We don't know the answer to any of these questions.

What would Jesus do, someone asked? Look no further than what He did on the Cross.

If Daniel has confessed his crime, done his time, and now has a better sense of right and wrong, give the kid a break. Is that asking too much?

From what I've gathered most people are just worried that, somehow, this will tarnish the name of UT football. He's lived nearly half of his life since then...paid his debt to society in the law's eyes...lived the straight and narrow since...all those at his current school are vouching for his character...the only one's who are trying to prevent this are complete strangers of Hood who will in NO WAY be affected by giving him a chance to make something of himself.

From fans of other teams

What the hell dude. No way I would take him
Oklahoma

What the ****? He should be in jail
Virginia Tech

Well this officially makes Jimmy Johns selling pure look like child's play.
Bama

America is a place where people get second chances, but I kinda think that this kid is too much of a risk for a big name program like UT. He might have reformed himself, but it is still a black-eye for any program to take on that baggage.
Bama

Its just bad pub to give a kid a full-ride when there are so many other high-character academic and athletic students who deserve one too.
Washington

Wow...if you sign him in Tennessee, Miami can no longer be talked about in a convict light. Because that takes the cake. We have had juvenile defendants, robbers, and assault and one murder which was acquitted but never anything like that. That is not only rape but also incest. WOW way to go Tennessee. Why isnt this doucher in jail anyway?
