'09 TN DL Daniel Hood (merged)

What the hell dude. No way I would take him
Oklahoma

What the ****? He should be in jail
Virginia Tech

Well this officially makes Jimmy Johns selling pure look like child's play.
Bama

America is a place where people get second chances, but I kinda think that this kid is too much of a risk for a big name program like UT. He might have reformed himself, but it is still a black-eye for any program to take on that baggage.
Bama

Its just bad pub to give a kid a full-ride when there are so many other high-character academic and athletic students who deserve one too.
Washington

Wow...if you sign him in Tennessee, Miami can no longer be talked about in a convict light. Because that takes the cake. We have had juvenile defendants, robbers, and assault and one murder which was acquitted but never anything like that. That is not only rape but also incest. WOW way to go Tennessee. Why isnt this doucher in jail anyway?
Miami

I could give one crap what they think about us, because two craps would be too much to begin with.

From what I've gathered most people are just worried that, somehow, this will tarnish the name of UT football. He's lived nearly half of his life since then...paid his debt to society in the law's eyes...lived the straight and narrow since...all those at his current school are vouching for his character...the only one's who are trying to prevent this are complete strangers of Hood who will in NO WAY be affected by giving him a chance to make something of himself.

Good points..

13 to 18 is a lot of maturation... and with this on his conscious, he's probably got the maturity of 25 year old by now.

CD12:
Risk is that UT will be known as 'convict U.'
Reward is that UT will be known for giving a kid a second chance.

A lot depends on who the kid is now and not who he was back then.

It has nothing to do with football. For him, though, football could be his livelihood.

Please don't act like the sport has no history of violence or redemption in its ranks.

torn. I'd like to forgive him, but everytime I do I think of my own daughters and feel disgust.

1. I don't remotely give a damn about what any other school thinks about the guys we recruit.
2. I can't think of five programs who have any less room to talk.

Of course they're going to say things like that. It's just like when everybody here googled it and just read the overview of the charges. It doesn't sound good, because it was a terrible act of violence...but none of those people will ever take the time to consider the facts and the settings of the situation. They probably think this just happened the other day.

i've held back on commenting on this for a while, but i'm gonna go ahead and say my piece. i don't care that the kid knows he made a huge mistake and he regrets it and all that. i don't care that he has done everything he can to make up for it since it happened. when a student applies to this or any other major university, they are required to mark whether they have committed any criminal offenses and they receive a background check. something like this would most likely keep a lot of people who aren't atheletes out of this institution. now, that being said, if he were to apply as a student and got accepted based on his own academic merit and then he walked on, i would have no proble with it. i know that has been said before, but i just cannot fathom how anyone can justify this kid getting a free ride after what he did. i don't care how his family's meeting with the university president goes. he should not be allowed to receive an athletic scholarship unless he earns it by walking on after going through the STANDARD admissions process (i.e. not having all of the public reaction to his football, just a basic application being sent the admissions board and all that entails).

Well...a guy who also claims to "know for a fact" said yes they are. So why don't you take it up with somebody who gives a crap.

well don't get all excited, the Apparently the whole family is behind him thing is wrong,i guess i could have said it better though,my bad :peace2:

A guy called in to the Sports Monster this morning and said Daniel Hood signed with Ole Miss. Anyone heard this? He said he has a friend that knows Hood and he had just called and told him. He still shows unsigned on Volquest.

Talking about this rumor still is like discussing the rumor that D. Myles will decommit because CLK said he wouldn't sign J Jackson. Give it a rest. It won't happen.

If true, I think this is a great thing. Not b/c I am saying he is a bad kid, but for the simple fact that it won't cause a stir or any distraction around the football program.

I think most of you are forgetting that Coach Fulmer and company offered to this young man.

I don't see how Ol'Miss could sign anyone else. How many would that be like 34?

Give the kid a chance no one knows what happened but the family. No one was there. He was 13. By all acounts he has been a model student since. I am sure UT has looked at this from all angles and will decide what is best. I will support whatever they decide. But for a bunch of people on a message board to burn a kid at the stake without knowing the kid at all isn't right either.

from what is being said, if the new prez signs off on it, CLK and MH will welcome him with open arms.
