To have him walk on and prove that he is scholly-worthy is the best way to go about it IMO.

I think so as well. I mean, you are not offering a scholly. If he keeps his nose clean this year, does well in the classroom, he is a good player, then maybe he is worthy. I have not seen in this thread, but has he been in any trouble since the incident in question? If not, how many years ago was it? 6? If he has been straight for 6 years, then another year on campus as a walk-on, then what's the harm? At that point, you would have to say he has changed and learned from his mistake.

I love UT as much as anyone here on the board but this kid is dumb. I know he will get the lottery scholarship and all but still books are $500 a semester. If it was me I would have taken the scholarship somewhere else and made it a lesson learned that will continue to haunt me. His video does look good and he has a motor though. Once he adds 20 or more pounds he could be real good.

why? to further punish him for what he did? either the university wants the kid or doesnt want him. whether he is invited to walk on or not should be about his football ability or academic ability, period.

im all for giving the kid a second chance. and this is the best way the staff could have handled it. they would get tons of scruitney (sp?) if they gave him a scholly and letting him prove he is worthy is fine with me

So what's the deal? Is he gonna walk on?

I say let the guy walk on, pay his dues, and if he straightens up and plays well give him a scholly

that's better than just handing him a scholly

Makes the most sense to me. Sounds like he has the grades to get an academic scholly. He'd be covered for that first year, and then could pick up an athletic scholly later.

I think it says something that he wants to be a Vol so bad he is possibly willing to walk on and prove himself. Like many, I think this is the best approach for this kid. I see a lot of people on here saying this kid should be in prison. Hood has done all that has been required of him by law, not by what some would like to see. He has not been in any trouble since and has apparently done very well in school.

What happened was awful, but from my limited understanding of what happened, the one that should be in prison... IS in prison.

If he does choose to walk on, maybe we could just simply pray for him and have faith things will work out for the best. Seriously wouldn't it be a better to see him turn his life around and be succesful?

Good post... and yes, it would be awesome to see him turn his life around... and I've heard nothing to indicate that he hasn't been doing that already for the past 5 or so years since he screwed up.

At some point, it's good to forgive. It's what we're supposed to do, you know?

Just read the report on what Hood did. Wow that was screwed up.

With that said I still think he can turn his life around. I'm all about giving him a second chance. That does NOT mean giving him an outright scholarship. He needs to walk on, prove himself, and then (only then) consider an athletic scholarship. Sounds like he is a very intelligent kid.

I left college, not dropped out of HS. I was doing just fine in school when I left too, it was for personal reasons.
