10' AL LB John Propst

I am new to the all of the recruiting rules. Why does UT only have 27 scholarships available this year? Why not the full 28?

Hmmm..funny how everyone is upset when we get a 3* 215lbs LB that runs a 4.6 40...or 2 tall bigger safeties. These guys are comgn in to fill need in depth at LB and Safety. The last regime ran off a bunch of players. The staff is shooting for 30 signees...trust me, there are spots open for Stone, Rogers, Ambles, Robinson, Green....

I was hoping we could pick this guy up - He looks to be a solid linebacker in a couple of years.

Relax ...this is the slash and burn recruiting method that CNS made famous . Take all committments . They are not only verbal committments on the part of the athlete , they are verbal on the part of the university too. On NSD the staff will take the highest rated players on their board first ...and when they are out of room ...the rest get slashed and burned.

So if Ambles , Green , Stone ect. Decide to come aboard ...then some of the lower teir guys will never get signed, they will get a polite call and told that some guys had a change of heart , sorry it had to happen this way , best of luck to you.

So if the top rung guys do come to us on NSD....they will sign with us. If not ...well these 1 and 2 star guys are probably better than walk-ons ( which you would ultimately have to take ) and I am sure they were selected from a huge crop of no names because they have some upside.

This kid for instance . What is his frame like ? Could he convert to a 240 lb Defensive end ? How about Sapp ? Could he convert to linebacker ?

We should all remember Nick Reveiz before we start really criticizing this kid for not having any real offers or having a low rating on a recruiting website. Heart and determination can make a kid great.

I'm not basing this off Reveiz I just know how 90% of Hoover's players pan out at the college level. They look good in high school because most of the core players have been running the same system for years. Once they are taken out of that system they get exposed. Crump is a better prospect and I'm not just saying that because he's from my former high school.

It is totally amazing that this has to be explained to people.

haven't I read that we have a couple of guys that aren't going to qualify? I know KT, but anyone else?

You guys have to remember that Ralph Williams will likely be going elsewhere, and JC Copeland might be going elsewhere too. Some guys might not qualify so there is most likely going to still be room.

Signing day should be interesting. With all these kids committing today, it doesn't speak well of us having room for Rogers, Ambles, or o-linemen. This could be very disappointing.

This, I'm confused right now. Although our coaches could be counting on us losing guys like Williams, Copeland, and maybe someone else...?

I know its not good practice but you can revoke scholarship offer to kids previously offered to make room.South Fla just did it to a kid from FL that was commited since July

This is a little off topic so forgive me but Rush Propst doesn't coach in Bainbridge. He left Hoover and went to Moultrie Ga to coach the Colquit Co. Packers. While I don't disagree with his character issues, he is a good coach. He's taken the Packers and turned them into a force to be reckoned with in Region 1 5A football. That region is considered to be the SEC of Ga football. With the likes of power house programs of Lowndes Co, Valdosta, Tift Co, Coffee Co and others, he is beginning to make strides with Colquit Co by carrying them deep into this past seasons playoff series in just his second year.

Propst is a great coach. His system wins games and he knows how to manage games. He's one of the best High School coaches in the nation.

me too ...and the fact that Dooley is doing what he can in to weeks without a full staff speaks volumes .

I was not a CDD supporter and still have alot of questions but find his methods very encouranging .

Folks : Slash n Burn recruiting . The big fish may not be off the board yet ...just because the lower tier guys have committed !

Also ..if you could sit down with the Vols coaches and watch some film ..I bet they could sum up in 5 minutes what they are seeing and thinking and you would leave saying , ' Geez , they sure are smart '

Hoping this guy is a fallback option. Does anyone know for sure if some of these are just options in case we miss on some guys we already have committed?

Ralph Williams
Delvin Jones
JC Copeland(already gone)

Also, I think Crump and Sapp may be fall back guys.

IMO they may be on the outside looking in an NSD. depending on who else wants to sign... GBO

If I were those 2 players, I would continue to look at other schools for a backup plan...

I think Probst will be a VOL!!!

I've known Propst for about 30 years. He started coaching down here in Alabama when I did. He has a system, a very productive one I might add. He had some very good teachers as assistants when he was starting out. The character issues are what got him in trouble at Hoover, but they have also followed him where ever he has been. No one really talks about his days at Cleburne County in Heflin Alabama.
