He's not.. and I agree 100% eith you saying losing scroggins will take us from a Top 5 to out of the Top 10..

Hopefully this crap is just more garbage rumors spread by mislead people like during bryce's recruitment

JC was a 5 star... see what prospecting has gotten us? Rettig will turn us down too. Who wants to be the 4th or 5th QB on our recruiting depth chart?

I think most don't care where they are on the recruiting depth chart if they have a chance to be first on the playing depth chart their freshman year.

I could see him feeling snubbed if he grew up in TN and was our 4th or 5th choice, but with his lack of major offers I think he'd love the chance to come in and compete for the starting spot at UT.

Of course, I thought Scroggins would love the opportunity too, so just remember that no one in this forum really knows what the mind of a teenager will decide.

problem will be then selling him to the top recruits as someone that can lead them to championships. gonna be a tough sell. Why JS was important.

I think Newton would be easier to sell to prospects even though he is only a 2 year guy. But,JMO

this whole QB thing is really putting a damper on this recruiting effort, They might do better once fall gets here and kids start playing football.. still long way to go...

If UT can't land Scroggins, we had better hope that Rettig has a huge year with his new team...

The coaches would still be playing catch-up, but a big year for Rettig would at least give them something to sell.

they need something to SELL now... they can pry a few kids from commitments in fall, maybe, but you can't make a living at recruiting turning kids. Not getting scroggins at this time hurts recruiting momentum (which hasn't kicked in) a lot.

They may just have to come up with a different game plan for this class.. soon...

If we can land Rettig now, then IF we were able to land Scroggins in late July, it would start helping us. We will land one of the two, but not both.

If JS goes to USC they need to jump hard on one of the top '11 guys right now and try to get Rettig.

All revolves around Scroggins. Aint nobody getting nothing till Scroggins makes a decision. It will come maybe as early as next week. He said he would commit soon anyway. I didn't hear much about the UF visit, he loved UT, and still waiting on his view of USC. Rettig will get a n offer, just not right now. Plus, who's offered? NO ONE. No rush with this guy.

Unless I were dead set on Newton, I'd offer Rettig now. Worst case: You get a similar QB minus the really good wheels. Best case, you get both.

I don't think Lamaison really counts either way since he'll be a 09 signee.

I just fail to understand why he doesnt have an offer from anyone. I mean something isnt right about this, I have never seen anything like this happen in recruiting.

There are lots of QBs with no offers right now. Of course, putting him in that category basically you have to admit that he is the same caliber of QB. Rettig isn't one of the top prospects this year. He has a strong arm, but has had trouble with the rest of his game. If he continues to work on it and improve he could be really good, but the fact that he doesn't have any offers right now, to me, isn't very surprising.

Idk. IMO, a QB that we offer should have offers from other D1 schools. I want him to have talent and not just holding a scholly. Now i have seen that he has played well in camps, but if we do offer him he will take a couple years to develop and we will most likely have one of the '11 studs to beat him out.

Note: JMO, but if we do offer Rettig we have to get a JUCO qb. We wont have any depth at all.

Lamaison is supposedly coming this fall. Without Jesse, Rettig will probably be it for this class, and a 2011 prospect will be their focus. If Scroggins does commit to us, I think Rettig will be left out. Shame, cause I really would like to see him and Jesse duke it out for the starting spot

First off stop discussing his lack of offers. He has been offered now by BC. Schools often wait on offering QBs until others have committed. It seems he has no interest in the smaller school thus the lack of offers from smaller programs. I think he is set on going to a big time program in a Big Time conference. He actually throws a better ball than Scroggins over 10 yards btw. He has the stronger arm and better accuracy on the deeper ball. He is not a come in and start as a freshmen QB. He will need a year or two. Thus, if we get him he will compete in 11' or 12' for job. This is why we get Newton as well. Then it is a 3 man competition in 10'. Lamaison, Newton, and Stephens. I think Chaney likes Rettig but Kiffin is not sold.

My money would be on Lamaison in 10' but Newton has a shot. Kiffin likes mobile QBs he does not like pure pocket passers. However, he wants a guy who is very accurate under 15 yards. That is why he loves Scroggins. Scroggins is a peck you to death QB. Kiffin believes in possession ball and running after the catch. So whoever can show him they can move around and be accurate short range will get the job.

What evidence supports this? Nobody at USC was a mobile QB. Jake Heaps, the #1 QB target for us, is not a mobile QB. Mobility is a plus, but I don't feel that it is a deal breaker IMO.
