'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

What evidence supports this? Nobody at USC was a mobile QB. Jake Heaps, the #1 QB target for us, is not a mobile QB. Mobility is a plus, but I don't feel that it is a deal breaker IMO.

I do not mean ability to run for yards. I mean ability to move around in pocket and rollout to make a pass. And I am a raider fan who has seen his offense plenty. He calls plenty of rollout plays. Now maybe that is cuz the Raiders O-line blew but that is the way he did it in Oakland. Rollouts to the TE or a big WR is a part of his offense. Speedsters to keep safeties honest. And running the ball. Similar to Chaney with Brees he likes a QB who throws from the pocket or on a rollout well. It is not about running for yards. He is not going to run Norm Chows offense from USC if that is what you thought. He has his own style similar to what Chaney did at Purdue but with more running plays.

I like what I see in Rettig! I hope we get Rettig and Scroggins!

Not the greatest showing if you ask me. Looks awkward.

He's a project. We knew that. I honestly think there are better QBs in our neck of the woods that would be able to contribute sooner. But these coaches know how to evaluate talent. If they offer Rettig, then I trust they think they can turn him into a good QB. Right now he's average at best.

My money would be on Lamaison in 10' but Newton has a shot. Kiffin likes mobile QBs he does not like pure pocket passers. However, he wants a guy who is very accurate under 15 yards. That is why he loves Scroggins. Scroggins is a peck you to death QB. Kiffin believes in possession ball and running after the catch. So whoever can show him they can move around and be accurate short range will get the job.
I would have to agree to disagree if this was the case after his June camp he should been all over Brunetti

Compare Rettig's films to Scroggins and Scroggins will come across as a more polished/smooth athlete.

Scroggins>>>>Rettig IMHO

Rettig was bouncing around, looking uptight. Scroggins looked very comfortable and poised

If we gonna sign a "Project" we might as well take someone from instate that has a burning desire to be a Vol because he's followed the program his whole life.

Nice point eric. That would throw a wrench in all of this.

We don't need another BJ Coleman situation where the kid thinks just because he is from TN that he should be the starter. If we somehow miss out on Scroggins, then I would be very happy about taking Rettig and Lamaison this year. Rettig has a very strong arm and is extremely smart. His stock is going to soar after he finishes his Senior year IMO.

I LIKE THIS KID! The Rivals guy talked about him always putting mustard on the ball...so does Jay Cutler, and that's why he's making the $$$ in the NFL. It's far better to have the receivers adjust to hard-thrown balls (ala John Elway and Brett Favre), than to ask the QB to take some off. It's harder to pick off when it has that much steam on it, and it also gives WR's a good split second extra, to make a move on the defender. The faster the ball gets to a WR in the flat, the easier it is to make plays after the catch. Can't do much when the defender is right there on you as you make the catch.

Notice how he has live feet, like Peyton Manning? People criticized Peyton about that, and all he did is win several league MVP titles.
The kid, if anything, looks like he's pressing to impress; whereas Jesse knows he's highly sought after, and doesn't feel quite the same urgency to impress coaching staffs.

QB's are supposed to throw it hard to the flats. What they are taught not to do is throw it 90 mph on a drag route 4 yards deep.

A post comparing him to Jay Cutler and Peyton Manning, nice. A little Favre and Elway thrown in as well.

Don't get your britches in a bind. I was comparing ASPECTS of their game...OK? Velocity on the ball, and footwork.

Take some deep breaths and you should be fine.

from vegas elite 11 where he was one of the top performers with the likes of nottingham, kaiser, connor wood, tyler shreve etc...

In the entertainment city of Las Vegas, Rettig took a page out of the stars' hand book and arrived a little late to the camp. Despite his tardiness, he wasted no time getting into the drills and slinging the pigskin around. After watching Rettig earlier in the week at USC's Rising Stars Camp and then here on Saturday, it's plainly evident that the kid has a strong arm. He can quickly get rid of the ball and get it to its target in a hurry. He is a kid with a good build and looks a little thicker and studier then his listed weight of 201 pounds might imply. He did a good job handling the ball and quickly got back and set in his drops. He has a bit of gunslinger demeanor to him and does need to work on his touch. He also needs to corral some of that arm strength and know when to take a little something off the ball. Rettig did a adequate job at the USC camp, but he looked much better on Saturday. At times, he looked to be forcing things at the Rising Stars Camp almost like he was trying to throw the ball hard when he can just naturally do it. He looked more comfortable at the Elite 11 event and it showed as he let his abilities just do the work. Rettig recently picked up his first offer from Boston College, and based on his tools one would have to imagine more are to come with a strong senior campaign at San Clemente.

I predict that Rettig will get an offer soon from Tennessee. He is too good not to, plus we can't wait around on Scroggins forever. I understand that it is only July, but a QB committment would really help with the offensive recruiting!

As much as I'd like him to get an offer and commit, we are in a good position to hold off until Scroggins makes a decision. I'm thinking he may have "Tentative" offer...and is told he has to hold off until Scroggins makes a decision

The simple fact is if Scroggins doesnt commit to us, we offer Rettig and he is ours. Thats it. So easy.

Not if we wait to long he already has BC offer.
He will probably have a couple more role in and he is deciding by end of July. He actually said he would like to decide this week. So we need to decide by the end of this week at the latest what to do. Or he will be at BC.

Didn't you guys say the exact same thing about Heaps and Scroggins. It may not have been you, but there were many on here saying that if Heaps commits somewhere else, that we offer Scroggins and he will be ours immediately. That was not the case.

To be completely honest the qb recruitment is making me scitzo .
