Very true.

Accuracy is oh so important. Jesse may have an arm up over Chase in that department.

Sounds like Chas Rettig is definitely considering UT.

Per ESPN recruiting-- "The coaches at USC and Tennessee have both told me that if Scroggins goes elsewhere, they'll offer me. I hear Jesse could announce pretty soon here so hopefully I'll have a good idea of what I'll be doing in a couple of weeks as well." West Recruiting Blog - ESPN

I think this kid is flying way under the radar and could be a star at a place like UT. I say we offer him regardless of where Scroggins goes...we don't want to wait and have that be a factor in not getting him.

As much as I hate to say it but Rettig might be the next Vol QB after Lamaison. X has great info and he thinks USC leads for Scroggins.

I agree with you, I just do not get all of this love fest for this kid...He hold's no offers....NONE and most people here think he is going to be a star??...I mean seriously??...I just do not see it....I mean when a small college will not even offer you then there's a problem...Yet people here think he is the next Joe Montana and want him committed right freakin now and some have even said he is BETTER than Scroggins?!?!...Ok I need a break after that this is too much lol:

Where did you get it that he has a problem with accuracy? Nobody said he struggles with accuracy. One Rivals guys said Jesse is sometimes inaccurate beyond 10-15yd intermediate stuff.
I saw Chase's footage from the USC camp, and he missed one long ball just slightly high...but then I saw some game footage of Jesse throwing an INT on a long ball..so, where you're getting this idea that Rettig is not an accurate passer, is what I'd like to know?
If anything, it's obvious he HAS to impress more at camp, since he doesn't have all the offers like Jesse does...so, naturally, he's going to try to throw as hard as he can. He just needs to settle down...in fact.

Nevertheless, he wouldn't even BE at USC's camp if he weren't accurate. they don't just invite any ole' yahoo that wants to come.

If I'm Kiffin, it's a hard call to make. Wait a whole month for Jesse, or take the next best prospect, right now and start looking at Cam Newton if you can't get Jesse as well.
This way, you got two really good prospects either way.
But play the waiting game...and a month from now Rettig may very well be committed AND Jesse still chooses USC...leaving us really funked over

I'll mourn the loss of Scroggins if he does not become a Vol. But acquring Newton, Lamaison, and Rettig will help with the grieving process

This is why I stated "barely any" in my post. But still, my concerns are that USC seems to be in the hunt just because they know we're waiting on Scroggins. You'd think a USC-recruited QB is going to garner more attention than Rettig's B.C. offer right now.

Also keep in mind that prospects that are viewed by the small colleges as legit D1 prospects don't usually get many if any small college offers. Rettig is offered by BC and will probably have several more as his senior season unfolds. He appears to be a late bloomer from a publicity perspective but a by all reports from the camps a very legit prospect. He doesn't come with the pub that Heaps and Scroggins does, but seems to be reasonably close talent wise.

I'd prefer Scroggins for the publicity/recruiting value, but by all the reports coming in Rettig would be a solid prospect.

The reason he throws it so hard is because he doesn't trust his accuracy. You are right that this is something that can be worked on, but it's no easy task when you think about all the things that are impacted by changing the velocity that he puts on the ball.

Retig definitely has some issues to work out. If we do end up landing him and not Scroggins he will not be ready to start (if he ever does) until 2011 at the earliest. I think if we don't get Scroggins the coaches will go hard after a JUCO, probably Newton if they like what they see. IMO.

I read somewhere that he has played for a mediocre high school team without much talent around him. Scouts are saying he should have a solid season now that he has transfered to a school with a better football program.

It sounds like between USC and Tennessee, whoever doesn't land Scroggins is going to get Rettig. I honestly wouldn't be too disappinted if we missed on Scroggins and landed Rettig.

That would be a hellacious combination, so I'm less and less worried about Scroggin's decision.
