Kiffin said the #1 question he gets from these WR recruits is, we like everything about UT coach, but who is going to throw us the ball. I can assure you, these guys are more likely to come to UT if they know Scroggins is going to be there versus a no name. That's just he way it works. Again, the way this staff recruits, they are going to get pretty good players and we can probably go with a Rettig or Rees for 2010 to go along with Lamaison who is suppose to be here in August, and we will probably be okay until we land a top 2011 QB, but we will get more top WR and offensive prospects if we land a guy like Scroggins.

Now, after saying all that, a guy like Rettig who also has been to several camps and knows lots of other prospects could also help land some top recruits as well, assuming he has a really good senior season. But Scroggins could do it now. Rettig currently only has one offer.

I was big on Scroggins but he isn't worth it. Even if, which I'm almost positive won't happen, even if he does commit to us I don't think we hold on to him on NSD. The last thing we need is to take him, land five other big time players because of him and then when we lose Scroggins, lose those guys as well and be left with nothing. Take Rettig, sell him to the other recruits which I believe will be easier to do than some people think. Chaney obviously knows talent and if he thinks Rettig's the guy, any recruit with a little intelligence will take something from that and be comfortable with picking UT. Not to mention his stock is certain to go up because of his performance at recent camps, not to mention the political side of Rivals/Scout by recieving more big offers from big time schools. Rettig isn't going to bail if we take him but he isn't going to be available forever either, TAKE HIM NOW.

Rettig is not a no name, but he is not Scroggins right now as far as name. But a no name is going to far.

That article makes me feel a lot better about Rettig. He went head to head with some stellar competition and killed it! Phillip Sims, Brunetti, Bell, Hinder. Rettig was the best! Very nice. He actually had touch on the ball!

I agree. I wish our staff would offer Rettig, I would love to have him. Put the ball back in Scroggins court. He is going to have more competition at USC, so what does it matter. I definitely want Scroggins, he would be a huge land, but I don't wanna put all our eggs in one basket. I feel like we should have already offered Rettig and hopefully we get Scroggins too. Scroggins will draw more top prospects, no doubt, but we might end up not getting either one. With Rettigs recent peformance at the camp, other prospects will start following his recruitment as well.

Well the coaches just got this info as well so things may be turning as we speak.

This waiting game is rough on us fans. I know the staff will get a decent QB in this years class. Just gotta have faith in them and believe they're working as hard as they can. Maybe Gran needs to talk to JS. He's getting recruits in left and right.

This might be the reason he has gone so under the radar...coaches wanted to see what he does his senior year. UT is out ahead on this guy.

This is a player who had a strong sophomore campaign followed by a disappointing junior season. Now that he has transferred to San Clemente High School, just south of Orange County, he could post staggering numbers as a senior, and might be on the verge of multiple scholarship offers coming his way in the fall. We have seen countless prospects in this class with several offers that possess nowhere near Rettig's physical tools. It makes you scratch your head as to why.

He supposedly had a bunch of injuries on his team his Junior year. I hope he puts together a stellar senior season

Well, he had a great Sophomore year...so we know he's not just a workout warrior. His team was decimated with injuries last year, and their record showed it...that's why he transferred from LaSalle, I think, down to San Clemente. If we get Rettig, his school is close enough distance to me, that I'm going to go watch him play at least one game this fall.
This kid has the tools NFL teams crave, and has good mobility for his size (4.7 40)...if he was a cement shoe'd guy like Bray, I'd feel differently, but he's performed well at every camp, and he has more pressure on him than Scroggins does, as he has only one offer compared to Jesse's long list.

I just think this staff needs to take matters out of a 17yr old's hands...waiting on him all summer long, while all the other top prospects have already made their choice. Offer Rettig and give him the opportunity to beat Jesse to be the 1st QB taken in this new era.
I doubt it sways Jesse's thinking, as it's still an steep uphill battle for playing time at SC...What's more...this Super 7 gets Rettig more face time than Jesse. It's supposed to be televised too, isn't it. Plenty of WR's know about Rettig...

Forget how many stars a kid has. That means nothing! I wanna see the kid on the field do his think against the best competition. As talked about in this thread he did that and did very well. Stars mean nothing! From what I saw from my own experiences as a coach here and seeing how Big MO was a 5 Star I just have to wonder what these guys look at. Obviously not much.

For what it is worth, the trojan fan base is getting a bit restless as we had heard that Jesse was suppose to announce by last week as I am sure many UT fans are in the same boat. Now some are saying that it will be another 1 to 2 weeks.

With that being said, it has also been said that Rettig is getting tired of playing "wait for Jesse" game and may commit to Boston College any day now. If we lose Rettig to BC cause Jesse is still "thinking", there are going to some upset fans as many think that Rettig has more upside. Now if Jesse waits around and commits to UT and we also lose Rettig to BC, all hell could break loose...

The beef is that there are many fans who like Rettig and his showing at the Maui camp convinces them more that he may be the guy... While the world waits on Jesse, some believe that we may lose Rettig to BC and he may be the better of the two..

As Scroggins and Rettig get camps and specialized coaching under their belt, they will continue to improve. It's the natural progression that will help mechanics but won't simulate a SEC defense. Boths senior seasons will be telling and both will be followed game by game.

Honestly, that's kinda ridiculous. Think about it. Rettig KNOWS that he is going to have an offer to wherever Scroggins doesn't go, either USC or UT. So instead of waiting 2 more weeks and letting Jesse get his 15 minutes of fame, you believe Rettig is going to commit to a school that is completely across the US in the freezing cold and be the #2 QB in the BC 2010 class behind Jon Boisture? Not gonna happen...

This arguement is certainly starting to gain steam and Im starting to lean that way myself. I dont think theres THAT much of a talent drop off, we would just really be loosing the name recognition that JS brings to the table at THIS point. Who knows if thats true 6 months from now.

What if Scroggins commits to Florida and USC and UT both offer Rettig at the same time? That could really put us in a pickle.

I don't expect Jesse to pick Florida but you never know. Hopefully if this happens, Rettig still commits to us. The Depth chart is a no brainer, but he is a California boy.

After Scroggins recent comments I see no reason not to offer this kid. I hope to hear in the next couple days that we did.

so far we have told rees & mason that they are #2 on our list

rees article a few days back said that the staff said he could be their #2
new mason article said TN is back in the picture and that the staff says he can be #2 (or so i thought)

Apparently our staff is confident Rettig will not make any moves until Scroggins announces. Maybe Kiffin has actually talked to Rettig and there is some kind of an agreement. I sure hope so anyways. I still think it's strange Rees holds an offer and Rettig doesn't. According to camp reports, Rettig is the better QB and clearly has the stronger arm.

I don't think Rees has an offer. I think he may have some form of a verbal but not a hard offer but who knows. The only info on this was from TOS and no article or quote as far as I knew.
