'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

Chase Rettig is competing in the Super Seven QB Camp in Hawaii against some stiff competition:

Steve Clarkson's Super Seven event showcases elite 2010 QB prospects - ESPN

Chase Rettig
Strengths: Rettig has a big, powerful arm. He is starting to develop some touch at times. He has good size and upside for quality frame development. A deceptively good athlete, Rettig has solid feet and moves well in the pocket.

Areas for improvement: Rettig must stand tall as a passer. He drops low and sets up low, which negates his naturally good height. He must continue to change ball speeds and improve his drops from center and his footwork.

Monkey Stomp huh? As a fellow poster said, I would worry more about winning a conference championship before setting your goals any higher?

You may not know this or not but due to recent incidents, there is quite a large bullseye on your program that would make a Target Store jealous

Bullseye?:post-4-1090547912: Have fun with the whole Reggie Bush scandal. We are getting secondarys while your players are taking hundreds of thousands from agents while the coaches turn there head...Thanks for making Bama look good.

Umm, dude, our current head coach was one those coaches you are accusing of turning their head.

Apparently Rettig has been to several camps so other recruits knows who he is. Is it possible if we miss out on Scroggins and we offer Rettig and he commits and starts having a great year, that he could still help pull other big time WR, OL, etc,. Obviously Scroggins would be able to pull in a lot more, but could Rettig still help us land a few?

does anyone have specific examples of a qb recruit opening the floodgates for other recruits committing? Did Jimmy Clausen do that for ND? It would have to be a school getting a top QB that was not on the top like USC or UF. I just don't know if Rettig or Scroggs commit to UT that will mean much to other recruits. I think our play this year will mean FAR more.

From what I remember Jimmy Clausen announced pretty late and ND had one of the best recruiting classes of the year that year (if not the best)

I was thinking JC announced early, like the spring before his senior year.

I agree with this. No one in this class is Peyton Manning. The Montana name could carry some weight and the fact that Joe would be around wouldn't hurt. A good QB is a must due to our current need. I believe that a productive offensive scheme that gets the ball to the receivers is what will do the most good. A really good young QB that plays early can bring recruits later like Peyton did but I don't think they truly have a massive impact on their class.

Scroggins will definitely bring us some big time recruits, IMO. I believe we can take another QB in the '10 class and be okay, but the other recruits that Scroggins will pull is why we need him. I don't think any of the others can make that big of an impact for us. I hope I'm wrong.

I have to wonder why Montana was not pursued. He would've been ours if we had...and yes, it would've spelled plenty of notoriety for this class. The kid has really good mechanics (being coached by his Hall of Fame dad, this is a given), and has good foot speed. He is also pretty highly rated by Rivals...but who knows how much the name plays into that?

Maybe the staff thought he didn't have quite enough arm strength for their liking. CLK seems to shun kids coming from the spread, although it's getting harder and harder to avoid. I still think Rettig could be the next closest thing to Jay Cutler, who was rather unheralded out of HS, himself. So, losing Scroggins won't necessarily spell a huge dropoff in ability or recruiting, IMHO. Most of the WR prospects we're after have been to camps and have heard of Rettig. Knowing that he was close to being offered by USC somewhat helps bolster his name, and Recruiting services are likely waiting for the season to start, and sure enough, you'll immediately start to see his stock rise

Is he just big time buddies with all the elite WRs, OLs and RBs? These guys are all getting courted by the best schools but they will choose us because of Scroggins? I dont buy it. Will it help if we get him, sure. Will it make all the difference in the world? No. I just think a lot of us are putting way too much stock in the success of our class falling on one guy.

Big time recruits know and follow the news on other recruits as to were they may commit to etc. JS knows alot falls in the balance of his commitment to UT. Prater, Cobbs, Leifheit, Henderson, Dyer, etc, all know and follow each other. Man, I hope JS makes the RIGHT decision.

Kiffin needs to listen to Chaney and take this kid now if Scroggins wants to continue to play game.

Pushing it.
