You guys that are discounting the USC football program amaze me. Sure they have lost a couple games the past 2 years that they shouldnt have, but I sure wouldnt mind switching current program positions with them.

I'd do it and call Jesse, saying "We needed 2 QB's in this class regardless, from a depth perspective. I told 2 from the 09 class to look elsewhere, and then we lost one to transfer this spring cause he was afraid you'd pass him over. Nevertheless, would you rather compete with three 5* QB's or 2 relatively unheralded guys? It's as simple as that, Jesse. In our eyes, You Da Man! In Coach Pete's eyes, your a depth chart number."

It is a little weird that we are signing two QBs but we are waiting on a Scroggins decision before offering Rettig. Maybe the staff has already gotten wind that Rettig would rather play for the Trojans given the chance. I dunno.

Rettig will go wherever Scroggins does not. He has already came out and stated that. If Scroggins chooses USC, Rettig wil com to UT. Vice Versa.

There is no way, no way, we land both.

Actually he hasn't said that at all. He has said that USC is going to offer him if they don't get Scroggins and UT is going to do the same. He says nothing about where he is actually going to commit.

If we offer Rettig first, that's squashes USC attempt to get him, and we'd still be a better situation for Scroggins, with Rettig already onboard, than him competing with 3 5*QB's on USC's roster. Tyler Bray is USC's option along with Rettig. There's no guarantee that they won't choose Bray over him anyway.
Basically exactly the scenario UGA had last year with 2 big name QB's committed. Rettig should not scare Scroggins at all

I don't see how us offering him a couple of weeks before USC "squashes" their attempt to get him. The dude lives in California and USC is at the top of the heap right now. I also don't know how you classify Chase Rettig as a "big name QB". That's kind of funny to me. The guy has one offer.

I said UGA last year signed 2 big name QB's.

FWIW, Rettig has an offer from BC and 2 tentative offers from 2 of the bigger programs in the country (USC and UT of course)...is one of the guys invited to the Super 7 QB camp, so yeah, his name is getting plenty of attention regardless of where the recruiting services have him rated.

So, it's not like he's someone noone has heard of.

You are right that he didn't expressly state that; however, he said that hopefully Jesse will know what he is doing pretty soon, so then he would be able to make his decision. It's implied, but it seems pretty clear that he is going the opposite place of Jesse.

Not exactly. Since he doesn't currently have an offer from UT, and he's stated USC would be his top choice, he could be implying that if Jesse chooses USC then he'll go to BC.

If you see Rettig receive a UT offer, then it is my believe that Scroggins will have told our coaches that he will commit to USC. I believe Rettig knows this and is patiently awaiting the outcome. He has nothing to loose. Like Sab said, only BC as extended him and offer and he is willing to wait to see if he gets the UT offer. I still think if UT gets Scroggins and still offers Rettig, he would commit. The only thing that I think would draw him away would be an offer from USC. The only other reason that UT would not extend an offer to Rettig would be if they see better ability from Rees.

If UGA signed two highly-rated QB's, then it stands to reason that it wouldn't be out of the question for us to do likewise. If you don't think both guys think they're upper tier prospects then you haven't been reading their quotes

I know that I am on a UT board and I show as much respect as possible. I do not need to get into a pissing contest as our success over the years can speak for itself.

here is what I know from our side...

I think Chase's first choice is UT as he had a great time when he visited. I read two to three different articles where he really talked how he loved the school and the area.

He would of course take USC but that depends on Jesse. I think that if UT offered Jesse and Chase, I have a feeling that Chase would still maybe go to UT anyways.

Both Chase and Jesse can participate in Spring Ball and there would be no Corp or Barkley in their way. Rettig can't go wrong with Boston College as well.

I wasn't trying to get into a pissing contest with you or to question the success of your program. But, I'm not willing to concede that UT cannot build everything you have.

In fact, about 10 years ago, that's where we were. But, we had a coach who couldn't take all that talent and win championships with it. Eventually, talented players started to take note and that coach could no longer get the same level of talent that his program required to win.

From my vantage point, you started coming across as just a little to high in the saddle with posts in this and few other threads... and that was my beef.

Yet, I do not deny that where your program is today is exactly where I hope the Vols program is heading. But, if we win conference championships, we will win national championships. It comes with the league in which we play.

Please accept my apologies if that view or my early statements are somehow offensive to you or to anyone else.

I don't know you, but I have the utmost respect for Sab and other VN posters who responded on your behalf. So, without question, I was out of line. Sorry gentlemen.

You know I think that Scroggins would be a fool to go to USC over UT. It just doesn't make any sense to me and I'm speaking from a totally non-homer POV. Just look at the situations.

Fact is though that if there's a championship program nearby, recruits will usually opt for the instate school regardless of the depth chart.

Thanks, Sab. I totally agree with this and it really sux that we may lose this guy who could come to UT and be a part of this new championship era. And, it is totally possible that Scroggins ends up sitting on their bench.

That's not to say he isn't one of the top 10 QB's in all of college football. But, if you're the say, fifth best, but happen to play on a team with the first and third (or whatever Barkley and Corp are/become), you still don't play.

He's good enough to start for us... and our program is good enough to get him to the League. I just hope he sees that. And, I do think an early commitment from him helps make all that happen as he is good enough to draw others who will contribute.

For all I know though, our staff may be able to do the same with Rettig. It just seems like Scroggins is the more certain bet.
