So does anyone think he'll commit this summer or you think he'll wait and hope he blows up in the fall and gets some more offers before he commits.
I agree, but the only problem is if he does well other schools will come into the picture. I don't think that this kid is very clear on what he wants to do right now.
he said that he doesnt want to be the guy to back out on a committment. despite any interest other schools have in him, i think we will have a decent shot at keeping him ours if he commits before his senior year. he will remember that we showed interest early on. i think that he will commit after JS decides to be honest.
I think you are right on everything but he may go ahead and commit before JS.
So eric, when do you think we'll get a good idea when he'll know what he's wanting to do.
I think he waits til the end of the week or right up until Jesse announces (so as to not look to desperate and kind of repay the staff back for holding him off for so long...by making them wait and squirm a bit).I agree, but the only problem is if he does well other schools will come into the picture. i wont complain. i want JS...bad. but i think Rettig could prove to be just as good or better. if we get both, kudos x 374982374329749823. id like the JS situation to speed up, but otherwise im comfortable with where we are at currently. july 25 cant get here soon enough..

If he even thinks about holding the staff hostage, ala Scroggins, the staff will snub him. This staff either wants you on board, or they will move on. They are all business and they want recruits that are as well.
This all just sounds like wishful thinking to me. Rettig isn't going to attract any big names to UT.with his Under Armour All-American Bowl invite. He might not be as known about as Scroggins is, but he will help get other offensive recruits to UT, if he does end up picking UT. Remember that article that Austin or John did with Dietrich Riley where he said that him and Rettig are great friends and talk about UT alot, as well as Markeith Ambles. If we do indeed get Rettig, which I think we will with the offer he got today, then we will be fine in recruiting this year IMO. Having a guy like Lamaison, assuming he qualifies, will be a good thing for Rettig, because it will give him time to redshirt, learn the system, and fully develop to reach his potential. I really like this kids potential.
You are stuck on this idea that the coaches want a QB commit now. There is no reason to be in any hurry to get a commit from a QB other than the danger of losing him to another school. Signing Day isn't until February and you are talking about a recruit "holding the staff hostage." lol:
They aren't going to "move on" from a guy they really want just because he isn't willing to commit immediately. We are too desperate to land a guy.
Sab I agree he will not attract the WRs or RBs the same way but he still will be a positive. OL will connect with him better IMO.

Funny thing is, it seems like that's exactly what they are doing with Scroggins. He's had every opportunity to commit here for a while now, and hasn't. I don't think the recent surge in offers to other QB's is a coincidence.
Right now...it's about leverage...he and Jesse currently have it over the staff. If he even thinks about holding the staff hostage, ala Scroggins, the staff will snub him. This staff either wants you on board, or they will move on. They are all business and they want recruits that are as well.

Sometimes they HAVE to be patient, and other times not so much. Like this offer to Rettig. Sounds like the stakes were raised on Jesse by the staff, more than just saying "we prefer Rettig now."
I also don't buy all this stuff with rettig needing a year or two. That's just people repeating what they heard some rivals or scout guy say. It's not the Gospel. If Rettig can graduate early (don't know if he can or plans to...maybe someone can let us know if they heard anything on this front), and enroll in Jan, in time for Spring practice, that gives him ample time to absorb much of the playbook before fall camp starts next year.
If he's ahead of the power curve, he could conceivably be the man as a true freshman. If he can't be here for Spring practice, then yeah...a year to soak everything in.
