'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

Once they have thier big fish in the boat, they can be more selective with thier other fishes.

That guy more than likely will be Cam Newton. That will be plenty of time for the satff to evaluate him.

There is a chance that we still have not even heard of one of the quarterbacks we end up with. Staff could, potentially, find a sleeper and have faith he can make it here.

There is no place for that thief at UT.

I guess you haven't done any wrong or stole or even took anything that wasn't yours in your life right. Just a plain ol' Mr. Paul PureBread. From the Holier than Thou University. Get off your high horse

Dude...just because someone doesn't go around stealing stuff doesn't mean they are on a "high horse". If he had only "bought stolen merchandise", he wouldn't have thrown it out the window when the cops came. There are the "get its" and "don't get its"....you and newton obviously fall in the later category. we don't need that kind of stupidity running our offense.

Cam's talent is certainly there, but you do have to question whether to roll the dice on the "Field General"...it's a critical position, and it would suck big time if he gets here and pulls a D. Morely on us in the middle of the season (grades) or has to be suspended for games. QB is the one position you don't want to have issues with grades and character

I just read one article where Scroggins (post UT camp) that he was going to take until late July to make a decision. I wonder if the staff hasn't silently offered Lamaison (told him to keep things quiet...no public announcement), and having him enroll for the 2nd summer semester. Nobody would recognize the guy, I don't think.

That's a little absurd dont cha think.. To call someone latter just because he is sticking up for a guy who made a stupid mistake..

We took Hood.. Why wouldn't we take Newton?

Well, if I were a lawyer I'd argue that Hood's transgression was related to his youth and he was heavily influenced by the other guy. Newton was an adult and he acted alone.

yeah but if he is enrolled here, we can look him up in the UT directory. and someone probably will

Im pretty sure if I bought a stolen laptop I would throw it out the window as well if I heard the cops coming. Maybe not the window but hid it somewhere...but you get my point.

Buying a stolen laptop (that you know is hot) is the same as stealing it yourself. If you don't know it's hot, you aren't going to chuck it. Plus he still isn't owning up to the mistake, and trying to protect the thug he bought it from (if he indeed did not steal it himself). The last thing we need is a QB with character AND grade issues. We can afford to give someone a chance at other positions, but not QB. We have too many good alternatives to take such a gamble

Rettig will be a last ditch effort or a 2nd QB recruit. He is a 3 year project at best. There is a reason he doesn't have offers from even smaller schools. He doesn't have the size, skill set, or potential. Nothing against the guy, this is just the word from QB camps.

I've heard good things from camps. Supposedly he's 6'4 and has a rocket arm. I don't know enough to say anything about his mechanics, accuracy, and decision-making, but it's not like he's completely void of desirable qualities.

He is tall and thin with not much strength. I talked to someone about Rettig that runs QB camps, not the reports, and he said that there is not much there right now. He is not getting MWC offers yet. He would have to hit the weight room and would be a long term project. He would be a QB2 in recruiting, just not the kind of top QB we are looking for this year as a QB1. If we get Scroggins or Brunetti, then we bring someone like him in. Similar prospect to Stephens.

Really? I have heard he probably has the strongest arm in Cal, if not the country. You are talking about Rettig, right?

BTW, Brunetti committed to West Virginia.

TheVol seems very determined to let us know how terrible Rettig is. You have something against him?

I think your word from camp, is a bunch of BS!!! Rettig was considered a phenom after his sophomore year. His recruitment went down because of his performance last year. Hell, i'd like to see how good you do playing on a team that lost 10 of its starters and had a ton of injuries. Thats why he transfered to San Clemente, so he could have the season he deserves. You obviously dont know much about Rettig. Next time you wrongly judge someone, get some facts to back it up!

being an accomplice to a 17 yo at age 12 is a total different situation than grand theft when you are 18 and the leader of a national football program....another don't get it

Exactly..thats not the kind of decision maker you want at your most important decision making position. We need to build a long term character program even if it means forgoing some short term success.
