Even if we get another JUCO guy like Newton or Simms (or even if Lamiason improves) is everyone pretty much in agreement that Bray wont be able to start for us? I dunno if I can say that for sure. I know the SEC is GALAXIES away from any high school level of football.....but if Bray puts on 15-20lbs by then and takes full advantage of being an early enrollee, I think he easily has all the physical tools to play. If he learns the system fluently, I dont think anyone could convince me that Stephens would be "better" for the team in 2010...... keeping in mind he couldnt beat out a QB this year who, IMO, is quite possibly the worst starting QB in recent SEC history.

Tyler went 9 of 14 for 206 yds & 4 TD's 1 Int Tonight.

He also had a beautiful 8 yd QB keeper with somersault into the endzone that was called back because of holding.

He didn't get a lot of snaps tonight because the game got out of hand quickly. the 3rd string QB even got snaps.

It really boils down to how quickly he can soak up the playbook and whether he makes sound decisions with the ball. IF he's a gamer...not just physically...he'll either start next fall or end up beating out whoever was ahead of him by the following season.
He has a decent shot to beat even Cam, but I just don't see how CLK can put all of his eggs in one recruit's basket.
Nevertheless, odds are Newton would likely be the best instant fix solution for next season...and as a side bonus, he could provide some valuable intel on Florida's offense.

Tyler looked very solid again on friday in leading his team to a 63-14 win. He threw for five touchdowns while going 9-14 for 203 and one pick.

He was out after the first period as they brought in their back up, but came back to start the second half and then leave for good at the end of the 3rd.

His two long scoring passes were just that (long passes) as one went about 50 yds in the air. The other was a designed boot pass to the left but was snuffed out , so he broke a tackle and rolled back to his right and threw a 40 yarder across the field and the WR ran the remaing 18 yards.

He did have one nice TD run called back as he leaped from about 2-3 yards out and was flipped over into the endzone. He also had 3 of his passes dropped , one errant throw and there seemed to be some miscommunication on the int.

He made a couple of bad throws tonight, especially the pick, which he threw on the run back across the middle, and a couple of over throws running to his left throwing across his body. A tough throw, but one I have seen him make many many times.

He did however, throw some very nice deep balls. There were also at least 2 dropped easily catchable balls. Kingsburg's recievers make some very nice catches, but man they drop a lot of passes. I will say this, Tyler's demeanor doesn't change, he doesn't get emotional at his recievers (at least not viewable from the stands). It is pretty much 'Let's get em' next time' attitude, which to me shows great leadership and poise.

BTW even saw some UT orange walking around tonight in the stands. What did you think seeing im first hand?

Ha ha ha, what's up Flip? You were tere too?

I'm going to enjoy watching his progress this spring. I can't see Stephens being named the starter, unless he's somehow able to come in this season and surprise the staff. His inability to supplant the horrendous Crompton is a resounding vote of no confidence, it seems.

Wow the competition he plays against is like a middle school team lol and poor kid is slower than christmas

Amazingly enough most HS teams arent as good as Aquinas or Byrnes. He hasnt shot up the board because of his stats in games, it was his performance in camps against other good prospects. If you judged all players based on their competition you would miss out on a LOT of great players.

This thread is going to be 1000 pages full of "He can't get here soon enough" posts. I honestly though don't blame anyone who says that though...

I mean everyone thinks this kid will come in and contribute from day 1. I disagree 100 percent. I mean i think he will be great in a few years but not next year. He will have trouble adjusting from slow white competition to the SEC. I mean everyone looks good in camp with no rush and no pads

Nobody thinks he will be a star from Day 1 but he is likely the best option. Coming in January will make up for a lot of time because he will get Spring, summer and Fall practice/workouts to get prepared. He has plenty of time to gain 15-20lbs and to learn playbook.

Tell that to USC and freshman Matt Barkley. :good!:
