'10 CA QB Tyler Bray (Commit/On Campus)

Cause he is a freshman, and will need time to develop.

Sorry, we have started to many freshman at QB in the past 15 years to use that argument. If anything, it will be because they want him to have a FULL understanding of the offense in 2011, not because of his class. He also may very well start, no one knows yet.

Eric, Do you not think we sign a Juco? I think we do. I think Bray gets a redshirt in 2010 and we recruit another bigtime kid. In 2012 those two will battle it out for the starting job. JMO.

Oh yea, I think his name is Newton....

Start the Freshmen now, we can have a mediocre season next year (as long as we improve). Crompton right now is playing WORSE than any freshmen that I can ever remember.

This is a three year plan for success, like it or not.

There is NO guarantee that we sign anyone else. They want to for depth purposes, but there is no guarantee. I'm still going to hold firm that Cam isn't going to end up here, and ends up at K-State, ASU, or Miss. St. This staff is all about evaluating and will continue to do so all the way up to NSD.

I think it is pretty clear the staff wants another QB. IMO I hope it is a Juco guy. Partly because of Newton. But the other is the QB's availible in 2011 class. I think everyone knows it is a much better group of QB's than the 2010 class. I think if we start Bray right off the bat. It would hurt us signing one of those guys.

I want to win games don't get me wrong. But I think if we take a Juco guy and he can win the job. Which I think can easily happen. We will be a much better situation at QB for years down the road. If we start Bray right off. I think it makes it harder on Bray and it also makes it harder recruiting a big time 2011 kid.

But either way I think this staff wants another QB. I just hope it is a Juco guy. I think it will be.

Wanting based off of need is one thing, but the coaches have to first determine if either guy could do the job first. There in lies the problem. This staff will not take someone just to take them on NSD. They had to this past class, but this one is their's.

I personally don't see how anyone wouldn't be blown away when they see Newton. The kid has an NFL body right now. He has the Athletic ability that you rarely if ever see from a QB. Has a cannon arm and takes care of the football from looking at his #'s. The risk vs. reward of taking him is a no brainer to me....

I understand the need part of your post. But I don't agree we took players because of need the last class. We would have taken Boyd if that where the case.

But I do want Bray. I think his potential is through the roof. I think he is the future. But he needs time. Newton could give him that. I just think it is alot harder on a kid to be thrown to the wolves rather than having a couple of years to get bigger and stronger plus having the time to grasp what the coaches want and expect from him. I think Bray will have success here. But not right off the bat. Newton is the bridge to that success IMO.

start him next year. lets work out all the rough patches the freshman will have at the same time and win the sec in 2011:dance2:

Or you don't want your freshman QB being a tackling dummy because your OL is rebuilding.

Let Stephens or a JUCO take the lumps and let Bray play behind seasoned vets on the OL

Everyone has good points here. BUT if he shows up and picks it up quick Kiffin may start him because NO1 knows what Kiffin is going to do..
IMO he should be 2nd on the depth chart and only come in if he must or if we are up late in the fourth.
I do think he needs to get in a couple of games next year to get a little experience.

Who should be our #1? Newton or Simms? I was listening to Doug Mathews and he said Stephens will never play at UT and the coaching staff said they dont care if he even comes back next year.

Correct me if im wrong Vader but i think TN is going after Simms harder than Newton so i would say Simms.
I just dont see Newton getting an offer or he would have gotten it already...

sorry i was referring to what Doug Matthews said

No problem, he said he had someone close to the situation that told him that

I think they going after them the same amount of "hard" right now. It just looks like Simms is going to be getting the offer at this point...

Every time I read this part of rivals' scouting report on Tyler Bray a small tear comes to my eye.

"Most Impressive: Bray is a very accurate quarterback that has excellent touch and can throw any type pass asked of him. He is also an intelligent player that will make the right reads and not throw into double coverage."

i thought i read on one of these threads that the staff was going to evaluate newton during the bye week.
