'10 FL RB Gio (Giovanni) Bernard

I honestly dont see why any "big time" rb recruit would want to come to UT. The depth is killer with Williams coming back next year along with the gang we got already.

Williams is likely a goal line-type player. With Hardesty graduating there are absolutely some carries to give a freshman in the rotation next year. I don't think the coaches are overly confident in Poole and he could end up transferring if he continues to be behind Oku and Brown on the depth chart.

I like his attitude and he would be a great pickup. I would rather have Dyer, but Gio would be amazing too.

I know that St. Thomas Aquinas is a great high school - perhaps the best. But, the games that I have caught, I was very unimpressed with Gio. He's good but not dynamic. Seems like we'd just be giving up a scholarship especially since we are stacked at RB. IMO Poole is twice the back Gio is and he never sees the field. What's the benefit of getting this guy?

Hey, Matt Millen everybody! Thanks for dropping by Matt. :wavey:

I don't know what game you were watching, but when he played on ESPN he was tearing it up and looked like the best player on STA.

But averaging almost 10 YPC (and rushing for over 1400 yards) in one of the most competitive areas to play HS football in the country isn't impressive at all.

I saw the same game and if you remember they were not playing the "best competition" in the country. If you recall the were moonlighting in Ohio against a subpar team. Yes, he's good. However, when we have tons of guys on our board and a stacked stable seems like a waste. I'd take him of course - I'd rather take some OL

We already have some, and gonna take some more. Even if we do take another RB.

So your saying that just cause they played a mediocre team from Ohio that an impressive performance doesn't count? You think he has any say as to who he plays? No, he just goes out and plays and does it well.

After Dyer and Seastrunk, he's probably tied for the #3) on my board (and I also think the coaches board)

I don't know how you could watch him play and look at his stats and say that he's not impressive.

If you still think he's not impressive, than you really shouldn't be judging recruits.

They were playing a decent Upper Arlington team. However, they play some of the best competition in the country in their home state.

They dominated their following game, yes. His stats - 6 carries 26 yards. I did check his stats from the year before and they are very impressive. Their division is tough but the are far and away the best team. They only played one "close" game verse Elder and Gio was average - 13 carries 42 yards. He's obviously a talent and I'd love to put him on the board but we have greater needs and while we do have some OL recruits already coming - Fulton, Pair and Jose - they aren't exactly "top guys". On most of these boards people are hoping Pair will transfer if we get "bigger names" and don't have room.

Anyways, seems like out of all our positions we are best covered at RB. After UCLA it is apparent that we have many needs to be where we hope to be. That's all.

With the stable of backs we currently have...and Toney Williams rehabing, am I wrong to feel unexcited about another back possibly coming here? I would gladly take as many playmakers as we can get...just not sure if one is needed at RB.

What if Williams is never the same after blowing out his knee and Poole transfers out after this season?

I was talking about Toney Williams...
I wasn't confusing that with your statement about T. Williams.

I'm talking about Poole likely transferring if we sign someone like Dyer, Bernard, Seastrunk, etc...and that he probably wouldn't if we ended up with just K. Williams (again I think he's a good FB prospect with TB talent).

If the coaches think Keon's future is at fullback, they won't take him. We have a FB in this class and it is more important to get a true TE than to land another FB.

Didn't factor in Poole transferring. I guess I was just considering what is going on now. It would make sense to sign a back if Poole was to leave, but right now it is hypothetical. I guess I would rather get as many O-lineman as we can get and another WR and DBs. And I hear this guy named Jeff Luc is pretty good...wouldn't mind "making room" for him:)

We need all of these RBs. We are an injury or two on being thin at the RB position. Poole would be crazy to leave.

Poole needs to carry th ball don't know if he is in the dog house or what, from what i've seen this spring he is he is a good runner too.

I would prefer Williams and Poole over any new recruit. We know what they can do and I would take that over anybody unless there is a Hershell Walker or Bo Jackson out there. I am more impressed with Williams than any back in our stable and look forward to him getting back on the field.

The best play that Bryce Brown has made to date was the smack that he put on the WKU LB after the interception on the first game and I would love to see what he would look like at LB, not that it would ever happen.

We need to use this scholly for more OL kids. That is where we are thin.
