'10 GA QB Hutson Mason

sjt18:

You're doing an admirable job of changing the subject and inserting a red herring into the discussion.

You said that Iowa is "terrible". I noted that a team that went 9-4, dominated a USC team the Vols got humiliated by, and upset then no. 2 PSU, is not "terrible".

I went on to point out that if Iowa is "terrible", the implications for Tennessee are dire. The Vols lost, at home, to a Wyoming Cowboy team. Do not even try to tell me Tennessee is better than Iowa at this point; thats just silly. Last year Iowa would have dominated UT and most on this board are well aware of that. You are the worst kind of delusional fan, blind to the facts and willing to make outlandish claims to degrade other teams.

Hardly... You should read more of my posts.

What Iowa would or would not do against UT is meaningless. I specifically said that I don't know because I have no idea how good UT is right now... come to think of it maybe you should read what I actually wrote in this thread.

Iowa is NOT a good team. They are mediocre team playing in a conference that's in a historic slump. It's premier team has been embarrassed in the national spotlight several times over the past few seasons. The Big 10 was a collective 1-6 in Bowl games this past season and some of the losses were outright blowouts. The lone win was Iowa's over a bad USCe team.

I really, honestly have no idea which way the Vol program is headed. I'm encouraged by some of the things Kiffin has done but when all is said and done... only the wins will count. The subject is my comment concerning Iowa.... and no matter how you slice it or dice... they're not a good program at this point. One seasons does NOT make a good program.

Let me put it this way. If Fulmer had had Ferentz's record 05-07... he wouldn't have had a 08 record at UT.

So, they beat a team that beat us last year. Interesting.

Come on eric, don't go down that road. That is one of the worst argument tactics ever....

UT beat Vandy who beat Ole Miss who beat national champs Florida so we are better than Florida? come on, you can't compare different games

Thank You!

I am really glad that our coaches dont base their evaluations of players on what other schools have offered them scholarships. If that were the case, we would be late to the party on EVERY prospect, which is ridiculous. I could care less what other offers a player has. I trust our coaches only offer kids they feel have the athletic ability to make it to the NFL....because that is what they said.

If you don't think that they take that into consideration, you're wrong. They always keep up with what schools offer a prospect and if it's a guy that they are on the fence about and Alabama and Florida have offered that could certainly be the thing that pushes them over.

What's lost somehow on this is that Hutson Mason has not been offered so it's pretty clear what the coaches think about him.

So basically what you're saying is if the coaching staff doesn't trust their own judgement on a player, they'll trust Alabama or Floridas? I highly doubt that is the case... Especially for a staff that is as picky as our current staff.

I wasnt talking about Mason....but I still dont agree with you on this. I believe our coaches are confident enough in their talent evaluation abilities to not care who has offered a prospect if they believe he can play here. Most of the guys we have gotten commitments from so far have not been offered by the other "big schools". I just dont see Kiffin or Orgeron (especially after reading Meat Market) offering a kid just because Florida or Bama has.

I don't. I think Brunetti will be back on the radar. But it isn't looking good for a QB in this class. We will get Lamaison and may go after Newton (not sure how much coaches like him either). Losing Marve really hurt us. I think he would have been sucessful here. But it is only July. There is a long way to go. I also wouldn't be suprised if we took a run at Sims. He committed awful early.

Who do you think we end up with at QB?

I really have no idea.

I do know this staff wont sign just any QB to sign one.

I would not be surprised at all if Cameron Newton ended up someone they target if he does well this Fall in JC. I know they are very interested in following his progress.

To be honest the senior class this year sucks from a QB standpoint. There is maybe 1 elite caliber prospect out there in this class and that is it.

The kid seems very intelligent. I was very impressed by his overall poise. Needs to get in the weight room.

I think Mason's stock will continue to increase as his sr season progresses

He obviously isn't sold on Iowa or he would have committed by now
