'10 GA QB Hutson Mason

Maybe someone with some knowledge of Georgia HS Football could enlighten me on if 5A down in GA is worth anything.

Maybe we shouldn't count this kid out just yet. Seems like he has done well on the biggest stage in GA HS Football.

5A is the best and since Georgia has produced more SEC players than any state since 2002, I would say 5A in Georgia is super competitive.

Its the best i think.

7-AAAAA is the best according to Max prep--Lassiter is white almost prep/public school that pays to get players you might say. It is in Cobb county the real action is in Gwinnett for that area. Am I confused?

Yes I was--the 7 and 6s on max preps are for divisions--5 As is the league.

Have you seen his film? His offer list is a veritable who's who among crappy teams.

And? So just because USC, Texas, Oklahoma or Bama hasn't offered means he's a low quality player or that he'll never ammount to anything?

Yeah, we took the other Offensive Player of the Year in 5A in Georgia in the last recruiting class. He must really suck.

I don't think Mason sucks. I think he could be good. He seems like a very smart QB. He used all kinds of touch throws and is accurate. Arm strenth is good enough but needs improvement. He used full mechanics on every throw and still is not ever lasering it. He is also not super fast or something. He plays against some of the weaker Ds being in East Cobb. It is a wealthy area and does not have the Super Teams. He may play one or two of the better teams in a season there. I looked at there schedule and Campbell was probably best game upcoming. I do not know enough to say if any of the schools they are playing have stud QBs or such just enough to say they are not traditional powerhouses.

To make this clear most of the state championships from Lassiter and the teams they play like Walton come from Cross Country or Golf.

So no he did not play good competition. And in the one big game they played his team got rocked in the playoffs. I will say though he played well. He just could not keep up they laid 43 I believe on his team. I will not cry if we take him but I am on the Grayson bus.

No, I was talking about the other 3-star OPOTY in Toney Williams we took last year. There's no way he's going to be any good if Mason, who was the other OPOTY, can't compete here at UT. I'm sorry, but the mentality that players can't compete here if they don't have great Rivals highlight films is just starting to get old to me. Mason is a guy who earned what he did in the toughest classification in Georgia HS Football, but yet somehow he's not good enough to play here. That mindset just kills me. Mason also accomplished what he did as a Junior.

Agreed Eric. Some players cannot help that they play at a smaller school, or a lower division, or against weak competition. I live near the South Pittsburg High School area, and there are some players there who are good enough to play SEC football, but yet, because they're small and 1-A, and don't have great competition, people count them out. Not everyone can pack up bags and move to a place where football is king and where every school is a powerhouse. Talent can be found in every state, every division, and every team. If Mason is talented enough to throw 3,000 yards, I don't care who he played against, he still had to connect on the throws. JMO. Haven't checked the guy out much, but Im just trusting the staff now.

Just because he won a POY award doesn't have anything to do with evaluating him at the next level.

While that maybe true to a degree, it's not like he won it in 1A. 5A is the real deal in Georgia HS football.

And the SEC is the real deal and Lofton won the SEC POY, but that doesn't mean he projects well at the next level.

This guy may end up being great in college, but winning a POY does not indicate anything about his ability on the next level.
