'10 GA QB Hutson Mason

No, I was talking about the other 3-star OPOTY in Toney Williams we took last year. There's no way he's going to be any good if Mason, who was the other OPOTY, can't compete here at UT. I'm sorry, but the mentality that players can't compete here if they don't have great Rivals highlight films is just starting to get old to me. Mason is a guy who earned what he did in the toughest classification in Georgia HS Football, but yet somehow he's not good enough to play here. That mindset just kills me. Mason also accomplished what he did as a Junior.

You act like we should offer every kid that plays against that level of competition. Come on Eric, surely you can admit if we are competing with recruits with Georgia Southern something is wrong. When you can look at a kid's film and the talent matches up with his offer list that's pretty clear cut. I don't know why you would want a guy like Mason so much anyway. We are Ten-uh-see. We should be attracting top talent. If we get to a point where we have to offer guys like Mason that's absolutely embarrassing. Those amazing stats that you mention came against the best competition in Georgia weren't good enough for any other SEC school to offer so why should we be any different?

I don't know why you think that nothing can be procured from his film regarding his talent. How do you think coaches evaluate prospects? Why would you throw out video evidence? I guess to make your point. It's not an accurate one though. If this kid ends up being one of the QBs we offer a scholarship to then we are in serious trouble.

Why would you want us to offer a guy that will never be able to contribute here? Save the scholly for next year if it gets that bad.

While that maybe true to a degree, it's not like he won it in 1A. 5A is the real deal in Georgia HS football.

Eric I am a high school teacher in Gwinnett County. I can tell you with no doubt. His division with in 5A is like all Vanderbilts and Kentucky. Campbell and Roswell(fulton county but sometimes on their schedule) are good sometimes. Compared to Gwinnett who has Parkview-3 state titles in a row 2002-2005, North Gwinnett, Peachtree Ridge(techinically Fulton but so far north plays Gwinnett Schools every year 2006 state champs), Brookwood, Grayson, and Norcross. Of the top 30 schools in the state these schools are in it every year. 2-3 of them are top 10 every year. He did not play a real deal schedule. Although, when he gets to the playoffs the heat is on and the state as a whole is some very real deal football. Camden County, Lowndes County(2007 champs), Henry County, Valdosta, etc. Camden won state last year.

His regular season schedule is more similar to a private school(non scholly one) league. Just being real.:hi:

And? So just because USC, Texas, Oklahoma or Bama hasn't offered means he's a low quality player or that he'll never ammount to anything?

More often than not, yes. It absolutely does. If you are the only big school going after a prospect that has as much footage as Mason, you have to step back for a moment and ask yourself why. There is probably a reason. Thing is, we haven't offered him and I don't expect us to. We are seeing what everyone else is seeing at this point and it's not enough to offer a scholarship on.

Maybe so but I see a certain someone in your avatar that turned out pretty well. How about Mr. Flacco? Or even Tom Brady? I know he ended up at Michigan but he was benched for Drew Henson. Griffin at Baylor. Juice at Illinois. White at West Virginia. Ryan at BC. Some players that aren't highly recruited by top schools turn out as studs. Then you have players who are highly recruited by top schools and stink. Schaeffer, Marve, Lee... I agree if top schools aren't offering they may not be that good but it's not always the case. Could also be the case of having a better quarterback in that class and two other highly recruited quarterbacks on hand. Odds are you aren't going to get a high 3* or low 4* when you have one or two 5* quarterbacks and another one or two 4* quarterbacks.

Yes, some prospects come out of nowhere and really develop into great players, but that isn't something you can predict. It's not like they show flashes of greatness early or they would have the offers. You can't just go and offer all the crappy QBs that are seniors just because sometimes those guys develop into elite players. That's not the way it works and it's a tired argument.

If that's the case, Kiffin shouldve hired you over Orgeron... You've obviously determined, based off of little footage, its not enough to offer the kid... That is absurd. While we may not offer him, and we are only talking to him just because we are in scramble mode for a QB, you cannot know that, nor argue it logically. What if they've watched the available film, and have seen something in him that they feel could be coached up to make him serviceable. Maybe they've got some footage no one else has, or that only schools have of him...

I'll trust the coaching staffs ability to evaluate film, no matter how much or little there is..

Have you watched his film? It is supposed to be a tape of his highlights and he doesn't look good. The coaches actually have footage of his bad plays too.

I'm sure they do have more footage than we've seen. I'd say most every school does and it hasn't been enough to earn an offer from anyone of importance. If you are correct and they've seen something in him then he would have an offer from us. It's not like we have any reason to wait. The coaches obviously don't like him enough to offer at this point and are keeping an eye on him (Orgeron says you never stop evaluating) and keeping in touch. I'd say there are about 10 or so QBs that we are doing that with.

I would too. And their evaluations have not led to an offer.

You are not a talent evaluator. I still don't know why you think you are. And no other SEC schools offered Rees, Rettig, or Hendrix. UT is different than the other SEC schools at evaluating talent...

Apparently from previous posts he watches a lot of film and plays qb in backyard pick up games and that is what makes him an expert.:eek:lol:

Touche. Only Tennessee and Boston College have offered Rettig. Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, LSU, USC, Ohio St. etc haven't offered so I guess there is no way he could be good. I'll go ahead and trust the guys who have coached and or recruited Drew Brees, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Jevan Snead, Mark Sanchez, Kyle Orton and John David Booty.

Where did I say I was? I am going primarily on what coaching staffs seem to think of him. Nowhere in my post that you quoted did I claim to know more than this coaching staff and I never will say that.

You can surmise how college coaches view a prospect easily by looking at their offer sheet. Mason is also different from a lot of the QBs that are still out there and not being recruited heavily because he has a ton of film that's been out for awhile and there's plenty to go by. If he was a legit prospect at this point, there would be good schools on his offer list. There are not.

So will I and those guys have not offered Mason. If they do I will change my opinion.

You are providing misleading or wrong information to a number of folks that don't have the ability to verify what you claim. You are correct that Gwinett Co has a number of top schools in football, (parkview esp) but last year was different. Mason threw for 3700 yards and 30 TD's 70% completion. He missed the all time state record for single season passing yards by 5 yards. Region 6 AAAAA had 4 teams in the top 10 rankings at some point during the year. Lassiter being one of them. The competition is very good and has been improving steadily. Walton, Roswell, Milton and Lassiter were all good teams last year. Lassiter played Etowah in the first round of the playoff the top team from 5 AAAAA beat them then lost to No. Gwinett in the 2nd round. Hutson had right at 300 yards aginst No. Gwinett. Just because most folks that live in the area are well to do financially is no reflection on the brand of football. It is the largest classification in GA and even though they don't have a number of state champions in football they are always competitive. 5AAAAA and 6AAAAA were one and the same for many years as 5AAAA but with the large growth of the metro area and new schools in these areas they had to divide up. Mason and Lassiter beat McEachern in pre season handily so they played a difficult schedule It is not like private school schedule as you described. Mason is the real deal! He is the most competitive player I've watched in some time and he is willing to work his tail off for the team. Coach Bobo of UGA stated and I repeat, " Hutson, it is obvious you can play at SEC level you have all the tools". I was standing there when he uttered these words. I don't know about you but I think this coach knows a little something about evaluating QB's. I'll tell you later some of the reasons Hutson has not had "all the offers" some of the others have had. UT continues to speak with him and he is still considering all his options at this time. Go Vols!

Nothing I said was misleading I in fact stated Hutson had a good game against N. Gwinnett or "Gwynett" as you put it lmao. He threw for 277 to be exact.

LOL-at your BOBO comment. And they have not offered?
You just proved your own point. And then you went said we are getting better as to admit it is not that good lol.

I will be waiting patiently for this education on why he mysteriously has not been offered yet is awesome. Thanks for your homerism and have a good day:hi:

And by the way you better be sure next time you say I mislead anyone. What you just said has no basis in fact. Mr. Homer, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Are you the guy on volquet that is related to him or really good friends of the family?

Georgia High School Football Historians Association. Recording the History of Georgia Football. GHSFHA.org

Here are the rankings for Georgia football for 2008. Gwinnett has 2-3 teams every weak in the top ten. 4 I think one week and 4 if you count peachtree ridge with them since that is who they play. Cobb has two most weeks Harrison and Walton. Lassiter is never ranked not once not at all. If you look them up as a school they have been ranked once at 14 in 1996 and 1995. But again I was misleading. LOL

Oh and to be fair. Lassiter did play Walton not Harrison. They beat them by a touchdown. They also played Kell who was in the rankings a couple weeks but got blown out big time. N. Gwinnett is the only other team of note and they got killed as well.

just to let ppl know 5A football is not a "prep league" It is the hardest division in GA. The reason why Huston has so many yards is bc his school runs a no huddle offense so he can maximize how many throws he is getting in a game. Lassiter also never runs the ball and always throws it. 5A also produced a lot of know football stars maybe jonathan dwyer of GT says something... Btw he also won Offensive Player of the Year in 5A in Georgia.

Never said 5A was but his division is weak. Not the weakest but weak. And what was just said about No huddle worsens the outlook on him. At this point unless we strike out on other guys not sure about this kid. Baty and Grayson specifically. If Baty tears it up this year his stock will rise considerably and he is already ahead of Mason. Grayson is just a beast plain and simple. He can play FB or TE or something if he strikes out at QB.

I saw him play twice last year. He is NOT the guy to play QB for us.
Lassiter had a tight end, don't remember his name but he signed with Auburn, that caught any thing thrown close to him. The numbers will be WAY down this year with the "big guy" gone.
He is not the man to take us to the next level.

. Campbell was probably best gameQUOTE]

Campbell maybe in the past use to be "good" but they tied for secound to last or last place in 5A football. I don't think you know 5A football. :hi:

Uh I said "sometimes good" that is a direct quote. 2 years ago about they won 10 games and lost in the second round of the playoffs to Peachtree Ridge by 2 points. I guess you need to get you some hooked on phonics or something. I go to the games dude. I am a teacher at a 5A school. What do you think? I will assume now you are a kid otherwise it is just sad.

Kid because kids only think about the right now it is part of being young. I am not saying I am an expert on whether things are 5A or what but I know where the good football is in GA. Cobb has never won state with any school that I know of lets get real real and research. 5A has only been around since 2000. Cobb has not won in 4A either. It is a weak schedule dude period.

In GA you either play in the Gwinnett or Valdosta circuits or your schedule is weak. This is not FL or CA or TX. GA has really good high school football in specific areas. Gwinnett schools I believe have won 6 of the last 13 state championships. Valdosta or Lowndes which Valdosta is in Lowndes have won 5. 4 being Lowndes. The other two are Camden County(basically on the border to FL). Thanks for your continued support though:hi:
