'10 GA RB Mack Brown

only time will tell but Meyer has MORE bling to this point. Saban still has to win the NC game. Its about the bling so until Saban gets that second title he's not a better coach. Not sure what football you watch but its about NC. Don't kid yourself

Please tell me you don't think your beloved Billy Donovan is a better basketball coach than John Calipari, or that Les Miles is a better coach than, say, Bobby Petrino. You can't tell everything by titles. Anyone watching the games can tell that Saban is a better coach than Meyer. His team is more disciplined and more physical as well.

Foster is still with the Texans, I think he has been active for 1 maybe 2 games, no stats that I have seen.

As soon as Coach O left MLK, a coach was on the horn with moms and later Meyer. Within a few days he set his OV to UF and stated "I’m committed to Florida, I’m not taking any other visits but Florida,” Brown said. Meyer has moms ear so Mack isn't headed to Rocky Top. It's all about the mother on this one.... she runs that household and calls all the shots at MLK also.

even if TN happened to pull him I doubt he would be out in the open about it until the fax comes in because of how sensitive Meyer is about him... not over yet imo

Is she Oprah?

For HialeahGator: Like you know jack. Step off, troll. Count your peanuts on NSD.
I know that Matt Elam never had his EE package completed for UT. I know that Mack Brown's mother and Meyer canned the first visit to UT. I have a few friends on the inside(coaches, teachers, admin) that have given me some good info but you can ignore it if you like. I never claimed to have to be an insider... just passing on what I've been told.

Cook's main problem has been staying healthy enough to learn his blocking assignments. He wasn't asked to block a whole lot at USC lite.

Exactly my point. He doesn't know squat about blocking and all the complexities of a pro style offense thanks to being in the spread. College ball is not only about maturing physically - it's about maturing mentally also...and the spread puts a damper on the mental side.

He's had nagging injuries but has been plenty healthy enough to be taking mental reps every day. He's hit a wall because he's been using basic arithmetic the past 4 years and he's all of a sudden expected to know calculus.

+1
You're challenging me for the best avatar on Volnation title!

Wait till I bust this one out. It's gold Jerry!! GOLD!!!

im sorry but they are about to lose charlie strong so they will just decline more and more they wont be the same for a long time. Just watch they will lose at least 3 or 4 games next season. And how are expectations to win the national title unrealistic when you have pretty much the same team coming back and the greatest college football player ever?

They lost 3 or 4 games in 2007. Seemed to workout ok for them.

Because that is how hard it is to repeat. Very few teams have been able to do that. Espeacially in today's game with so much parity.

I am by no means a UF fan and do not usually make it a point to take up for them, but I can admit that they have good players and Meyer is a good coach. I would like to think that the reason we will start competing and winning against Florida is b/c we have become a better team, not b/c Florida has declined.

You do realize Meyer has a pocket QB next year right? Last time that happened he went 8-4. And I'm a firm believer that Chris Leak was better than Brantley.

The entire reason the offense at Florida has been working is because of the threat of the QB draw and read-option with a 245lb QB.

I'm just glad I never have to watch that nasty looking jump pass ever again.

Last time they had a pocket QB they actually won the National Championship. Tebow did nothing as a QB and was just a short yardage back. Leak was the QB that year.

Sorry but no. You will more than likely lose some Jr's to go with 6 or 7 talented Sr's. I'd say that Haden, Wright, Hernandez, and Dunlap are pretty much gone. Hard to say where the Pouncey bros might grade out.

We saw the future of the UF running game early in the UT game when Meyer thought he could beat Monte without Tebow between the tackles.

IMO, the East looks like a 4 team race in 2010 as of now. All 4 have significant question marks that can only be filled by new comers.

Looking at our starters there are about 7 or so juniors that could leave early. We also have 3 seniors on offense and 3 senior starters on defense that will be gone.

Of the juniors I see Haden, Dunlap, and Hernandez as the only players that will head to the draft. Had we won the NC this year, then I could see a lot of juniors declaring early.

So we will return most of our defense and likely be pretty good on that side of the ball next year. The offense should return all 5 starters on the OL unless the Pounceys declare which I don't see happening. We lose a couple of WRs, but they were not great this year so replacing that production shouldn't be all that hard. Then you have Tebow who has been a big part of the offense in past years obviously, but the offense was not all that great this year and similar productivity next year is definitely possible.

Looking at other teams in the East next year, you have Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt. You can immediately toss out Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

Georgia is bringing back a lot of players, losing only 6 starters (according to the rivals depth chart which isn't great), but they do lose their starting QB, and I have not seen anything from them to show they have a QB that will be able to step in next year, but we will see.

South Carolina doesn't lose that many starters, but they lose their best defensive player in Eric Norwood, and it remains to be seen if the players that they do have are going to be able to compete at a high level.

Tennessee, again according to rivals which still lists Nu'Keese as a starter, loses 8 starters on offense, 4 from the OL and their starting QB and HB. The HB they have Bryce Brown, so I don't see that as a big drop off at all, but Hardesty had to be the best offensive player for Tennessee this year. On defense 4 starters our seniors, not counting Reveiz, and then the addition of Berry who I'd be surprised to see come back. I think the defense will still do well next year, but the amount of players they are losing on O has to be concerning. I think if they finish the same way they did this year at 7-5 then it will be as good as could be expected.

Of the top 4 in the east I think Tennessee could easily finish 4th and 2nd place in the east would be quite an accomplishment. I think the East will be down again next year and it shouldn't be incredibly hard for Florida to repeat.

The year after next, is when I see the East rising up with a lot of teams being competitive, but next year I see being similar to this year but not quite as big of a difference in teams.

As for Mack Brown, he is coming to Florida without Tebow so UF will be forced to give the ball to the RBs. I do not see him getting 20+ carries a game in his career, simply because Meyer likes to rotate RBs and get the ball in a lot of players hands. Also, if Debose is as good as people hyped him up to be he will definitely get a share of the carries. Florida has a lot of depth at RB next year, and I don't see Brown doing anything and likely redshirting. The year after next Moody will be gone and Demps and Rainey will be seniors, so by the time Mack is a redshirt sophmore he will be with Gillislee as the remaining RBs on the roster, along with whatever recruits they pick up in that time period.

The east is wide open next year. Anyone can win... Tennessee has as good a shot as anyone. UF still has a talent gap but we play them early and they are trying to put in a new offensive scheme. UF vs. UT next year is a toss of a coin. Our O line will be much improved next year..we are losing two walk ons lol. Hardesty and Crompton are big losses. Stephens will manage games. We will need a back to step up with Brown we will see who it is. All WRs that matter are back and some new ones will be on the squad. I expect us to put up more yards in 2010. The WRs have been practicing with Stephens for awhile.

Mack Brown met with CKC this week and word from MLK is he's going to look around and take some visits. My source says he's still committed to UF but team-Brown wants to see what happens with the RB coach. CKC has been his main recruiter also with ex-CBG, not sure what happened but it's rumored CKC will be leaving with CS. Visit happened midweek and he put his OV on hold which was planned for this weekend. *LV and Sab cut me some slack on this one*

hahaha "just a short yardage back"

If Tebow didn't have that, he wouldn't be Tebow. That's the entire point. You won't have that next year. You won't have a RB period. And your QB is unproven.

Are you seriously suggesting Brantley (in his first year playing any substantial minutes) will be good as Chris Leak (in his senior year)???? Leak had Tebow for short yardage. You're exactly right. He did throw too ya know. He threw 5 TDs and ran for 8 TDs that year. You're saying he did nothing?

Wow.

I think I hear your clothes washer beeping at you. Cycle is done. Jorts are good as new.

Man this thread got hi-jacked didn't it?

Probably won't matter anyway. I thought we could pull Brown but I'm not sure since we can't tell him who is position coach will be for awhile.

CLK coyly said that he may have these coaching spots filled by the bowl. Read into it what you like.

I never said Tebow did nothing for us that year, but he was not a QB for us. Chris Leak was the starter, and he can't run anymore than Brantley can.

Florida will have to use someone else, maybe Moody, next year as the short yardage back, and go the more traditional route. However, the post I responded to said the last time we had a pocket QB we went 8-4, when we actually when 13-1 and won the NC. Of those 5 TDs Tebow threw, 3 were in games that were already blowouts. The only game Tebow contributed throwing the ball was the LSU game where he threw 2 TDs.

Brantley has had 3 years at Florida where he has gotten to learn the system and gain experience in practice and garbage time. Leak wasn't amazing the his senior year, and it was the defense that led us all year. Brantley is a very good QB and though he will likely struggle, the offense could easily be just as good as it was under Leak.

The whole point of my original post was that we did have success with a pocket QB under Meyer. I never said Tebow was not an important factor in the wins. He was, just not as a QB.

No point in continuing this conversation, because there is no telling what will happen next year, but I can say that if I could pick any QB to have in the SEC next year it would be Brantley. I believe he is that good, not to mention there aren't that many good QBs in the SEC coming back next year.

I don't believe Brantley is that good, but honestly, your right, too many questions at qb in the SEC next year to pick a favorite... unless UT offers Cam Newton...lol

Learn the system??

You guys are going to have to completely change the system next year. That is my point.

You won't have a RB (Tebow). The system Brantley has been watching from the sideline will not and cannot be the same as what Florida runs next year. If they have Brantley running QB draw and rollouts all game, he will get hurt.

It will be alot more simple spread and less spread option. I'm sure Florida will still use alot of the zone read, but the threat for Brantley keeping it and running over LBs like Tebow did is a big fat zero. You say with Brantley Florida's offense can be just as good as it was with Leak. I agree. The one they had Leak's junior year with no Tebow involved. They were easier to scheme for and very beatable that year.

I agree about the SEC QB situation. I also agree Brantley is better than anything we will have next year. However, Florida without Tebow = 0 national championships with Urban Meyer and that INCLUDES Chris Leak's senior season. I'm sorry man, it's the truth.

Now to stay on topic:

If we hire Jay Graham, there's no way we get Mack Brown. He's been compared to Oku. I just think we're better off with a more balanced RB in the zone run attack (Hardesty, Ingram, etc).

At that point, we would likely try and turn Lattimore instead. Two teammates plus the guy who is his main recruiter at USCjr might mean he would choose UT. At the very least, we would jump into the conversation. Right now we have no chance at all with either Brown or Lattimore (without a RB coach, it's hard to seriously recruit a RB).

Bryce Brown, Oku, Poole, and T. Williams are the only thing that would hurt us there... but Lattimore would be no worse than 2nd string by his sophomore season given that list.

Florid will do a lot more traditional running with a RB and a direct handoff in 2010. There is a reason Mack Brown wants to go to Florida, and it's because Meyer is promising him a lot of carries.

But just FYI, Jordan Reed is a huge QB that can run, and I believe you will see him in the single wing in 2010 just like Tebow was in 2006.
