Some of these posts here are soooo stupid. There's no better way to describe it. Have you watched this kid's film? Have you seen him in person at a game? Stars don't mean anything - if you follow recruiting you would know this. Chris Johnson of the Titans was a 2-star. Where did he play? :eek:hmy: Eastern Carolina. They won their conference championship last year. They aren't picking the worst talent out there.

Now I'm not saying Sapp is definitely going to be the next Johnson but there's always a possibility. Give the dude a chance. Besides, there's not anything guaranteed saying that we'll have a spot for him. I hope we do, but I also hope we get Stone, Rogers, and Ambles.

+1, like somebody said earlier, add 20 pounds to this kid and put him at LB. Give him a chance, alot of these 2 and 3 star kids turn out to be better than 4 and 5 star recruits because they work their but off to get better, whereas the 5 star guys just think it will be given to them.

Are you guys taking D Jones, R Williams, and Copeland out of this? They aren't coming here.

I was not in favor of the CDD hire ...

BUT

I have to defend what he is doing here. He has had no time to recruit. He has no connection with many 4 and 5 star kids . He does not have a staff assembled ...no fault of his own.

This is Saban-esk recruiting . It is the slash and burn method. Get as many committments as you can . When signing day approaches a team takes the highest rated kids from their board first . They continue taking the highest rated until they are out of scolleys...then they slash and burn the rest .

In our case ...we have a bunch of uncertainty with alot of guys . CDD must be prepared to comp for defections . The worst thing he could do is NOT fill all the spots and end up taking a bunch of walkons ( see Phil Fulmer)

I'm very disappointed by this. This spot would have been better saved and used next year. Sapp is not SEC-caliber. You guys can say what you want to make you feel better about him, but the bottom line is he is not talented enough to play here.

How could you possibly know that?

hard to make assumptions when there are no highlights or film on him in public..all i know is we need bodies at S/LB and he fits the mold and is already qualified for school...

it is not an official commit anyways...only JB has confirmed it from Sapp and not from TN officials

I agree. Leave some spots open. There's no need to just fill-in as we all know that 2010 is going to be a trying year, just because of the schedule/OL.

Agreed. The best case scenarios are that we don't accept it unless others fall short, or we see something that makes the staff believe he could be a linebacker. Either way, this is probably a waste of a scholarship.

I still think this is a fallback plan, but I'm mostly with Sab. I don't think we'll ever hear very much from this kid regardless of where they try him out on the field. But at the same time, can you *really* look at this from a glass half full approach and assume we have 5-6 better players lining up to commit?

I can't, I think if a couple of things fall through then Sapp will be here, better or for worse.

I gotta agree with the concerned guys, though. A 2 star is fine, but we can't take four of them. That's a waste, and it's more likely that they just suck. Not every two star is a diamond in the rough if we take them.

I dunno. I havent seen his highlights or heard anyone from other boards raving about his play.
Did He get an offer?

Perhaps CLT & CDD project him to being a LB? I read on VQ that he was an excellent leader in HS. I dunno...

I'll proceed with caution and wait til things shake out

Ugh. This guy should be a preferred walk-on at an SEC school. Not offered a scholarship, if he was.
