'10 JUCO DT David Mahoney

Yes, assuming we can't get someone else, or Yes, because he is that good?

Firstly, I believe he is very good. Orgeron loves him. If he commits, he might be the best DT we have committed. And who says that Brown and Harris both pan out for sure anyways?

Secondly, Broussard is not going to make it in. It's just not possible. There are some serious concerns about Harris making it in as well. Some think he won't be here next fall. If neither one of them make it in, how is that DT class (Brown, nobody else) looking then?

I don't disagree, If they know for sure that one, and possibly 2 will not make it in, they need 1 or 2 more to replace them with.

He would make 3 JC DTs wouldn't he? Broussard would be the only FR. out of that group, right?

Personally, I would like to see 2 FRs, and 2 JCs. If they are they are the right ones.

Yes, Broussard will be the only freshmen, but I think they are worried about the group they might have to field next year at DT. Hughes is going to be a monster at DT, but who else? We lose Dan, Wes, and Mathis. It doesn't look like Thomas or Nelson can play at this level. Sykes has been improving, but he's rarely on the field. Walls has alot of work to do to get in the fold, and it looks like he's redshirting this year. Our depth just isn't good at all at DT. God forbid if Dan or Hughes get hurt this year because we are screwed if they do...

IMO they just don't wanna take the chance on only Brown being able to come in and contribute next year, especially with the struggles he had at Florida...

What is the deal with Harris? He is listed as an ee, and even if he can't enroll in January...i would think he could become eligible with another semester...but that is speculation on my part. I have seen you state concerns for him twice...just wondering if you could elaborate a little on his situation.

I really have no idea what his grades look like. Hubbs is saying that the 2 players the staff is really concerned about right now, grade wise, is Broussard and Harris. I hadn't heard that about Harris until a couple of weeks ago...

Brandon Willis will also play DT. He needs to add about 20-30 more lbs, but he will play on the inside during passing situations next year, I think.

We will play Hughes, Brown, and Harris/Broussard next year in limited action. Also, people are forgetting about Arthur Jeffery. He will have had 2 years to get over his knee injury and should be able to play some after RSing this season.

So, to me, you've gotta get at least 1 of the 2 between Harris/Broussard in here for next year. If we add Mahoney, we're solid at the DT position with between 4-6 players who can rotate. Anthony Johnson comes in 2011.

We won't be playing Broussard at all. Some JUCO team will be playing him...

Harris might not make it in. And Harris and Brown may not be able to play at this level. We don't know yet...

They've already said Jeffery is going to get a shot on the OL next year. He might stay there...

I think Walls is going to be awesome, but I'm not sure he can do it next year...

Anthony Johnson is going to be a superstar, but we have to have help in the '10 and '11 seasons...

We need Mahoney. If we miss on him, we get back on Maurice Hayes...

You think Johnson is gonna be a 5* on rivals?

Jeffery on O-line?? I hadn't heard that at all. Who said that?

How can you say Brown/Harris may not be able to play at this level, but Mahoney can? They're all JUCO players, so really that would apply to all of them. John Brown played a little while at Florida (I think he made some big tackles in the national championship game against Oklahoma if I'm not mistaken) so, for the most part, he is the most proven of those 3 JUCO players.

I think Walls will add depth next year, but with players coming in and in future classes on the D-line, I just don't know... I don't care who the player is that dominates for us, as long as it's someone.

Anthony Johnson might be the #1 DT in 2011. If not, he'll be top 3 or 4 no doubt. He's a monster.

Some people on VQ who know what they are talking about...

I didn't say Mahoney could. There is no guarantee that either Harris, Brown, or Mahoney can. Brown struggled at UF and was never a factor at all...

I'm not talking about future DL classes. All I am talking about is helping in 2010...

Willis is already the perfect size for a big run-stopping DE which is something we don't have due to the necessity to move guys inside to DT. Wes Brown would have been that guy for us this year. I think with a healthy DT rotation, we keep Willis at DE. If there is a need for it, he may play inside next year and slide back outside once we graduate Martin and Walker.

No doubt. I still wouldn't mind Chandler cause he is a good player; but just adding Quarles would be money for this class. He is a stud that would thrive in our rotation.
