- #2 dual threat QB in the nation (behind Tyrod Taylor)
- #4 overall QB (behind Clausen, Mallet, and Taylor)
- #28 overall player

"Schools are just now finding out he's here," Blinn assistant coach Keith Browning said. "As they find out he's here, we're getting a lot of letters and phone calls about him. He's a tall kid with a big arm, but he can tuck it down and run it in too. He's a no-brainer for what (K-State) is trying to do."

Cecil Newton Sr., considering the circumstances, says he would prefer his son play out his final two years of college football at a school in somewhat close proximity to his family's Atlanta home. "We want him to stay in the southeast, even though Kansas State has a reputable quarterback that just got drafted. Kansas State has some credibility. We'll sit down and talk about it. I'll say that it would have to be something really attractive to go thousands of miles away from home."

Newton, who will have two years to play two seasons at the school of his choosing, and his father will compile a list of schools to visit next week, and spend the summer touring college campuses.

Per Rivals... He's now listed at 6-6 234. IMO he's a Vol if Kiffin wants him. His dad wants him to stay in the southeast and not "thousands of miles away". So we can rule out Florida, LSU (with the Periloux situation), Ole Miss, Miami (already have a young QB), and St. Richt. That leaves UT, FSU, Bama, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, maybe Clemson, and Miss St. as the only players in his recruitment...

Watch out for Miss st. IMO, but if we want him he is ours. That would get very interesting if he committed.

That's certainly the case, but don't expect to hear of a commitment until we are done recruiting the HS Seniors that we need. I wouldn't worry too much about MSU.

Only reason I think them is because

1. Knows HC and is fit for that system
2. near ATL
3. He would start ASAP

I'm just not sure Mullen would go after him hard since he was at UF and likely assisted in the decision to release him at that time.

take out the "knows HC" part (which can be fixed in the next year) and it looks you are describing the Vols...

both valid points. no arguement. I hope we get him. okay Vader and sab here is one.....

Is Newton the QB who would have the biggest impact for us in 2010? not after that, just that year. IMO he may be. Heaps may come close.

Yes, no question. He is more ready to play than any QB we are recruiting.

IDK if there is any good QB in the nation that is ready. When they said down year i was expecting 1 or 2 big time players, but nothing like this. Good greif.

Yes without a doubt. He is more ready to play (and more talented and physically gifted) than any QB that we could land, Marve included. If he would have been part of the 2010 class instead of the 2007 class out of high school, he would have been the #1 QB in the nation and it wouldn't have even been close...

So he would move from #2 to #1? Wow. What a difference a year makes.

That's pretty bada$$ right there. He could be a nice weapon

so hendrix and newton then... i like it

Much prefer Heaps or Scroggins and Newton...Hendrix just doesn't impress me that much...That comment will most likely come back to bite me in the kaboose but something about him just doesn't click with me...Guess that's why I'm not a head coach or recruiter :)

The staff is zeroing in on Heaps and Scroggins...one or both. Newton would likely be targeted as the short term/quick fix, and will likely be No.1 among the 2 or 3.
Hendrix, is more of a Plan B type. I doubt his heart is in it for football at this level if his plans are pre-med school. That's demanding enough without the rigors of SEC football added into the mix. Hendrix is no more heralded than Stephens.
