I cannot believe we are actually pursuing a guy who did enough to get kicked off his team by Urban.

He stole a laptop and was dumb enough to spray paint his name on it. Then, he one-upped himself by tossing it out the window when the police showed up at his door.

I wouldnt want to waste a scholarship on this idiot. Not because what he did was necessarily "terrible".....but you have to be a special kind of stupid to do what he did. If CUM kicks the kid off his team, thats says it all.

One thing he realized was that he wasn't a real thief. So a second chance will be good for him.

The clear implication of your statement is that Meyer is unusual in his tolerance of unacceptable behavior and allows players to remain on the team in situations where they would generally be booted off.

Maybe this is true, but I was wondering if you have any examples to support this?

Joyner...

The headline may be all you want to know.

Here is some text from the article.

"Florida is no different than FSU, Georgia, Penn State, Alabama, Iowa or any of the programs that have had their share of off-field transgressions."

Certainly what Wilson did was not worse than what Hood was involved in. I say that not to criticize the decision of UT to bring in Hood (I thought it was quite ethically defensible) but to try and respond to the continuing implication that UF somehow stands out as a corrupt program. It's a convenient and partisan argument. No different than Republicans and Democrats slamming each other on Fox and MSNBC.

I'm not sure Percy Harvin not being kicked off the team is a serious barometer of Meyer being exceptionally permissive. He was suspended for what is suspected to be a substance violation. Are you saying that UF is unique in not kicking someone off the team for smoking a joint?

Another case in point is the guy who this thread is about. Cam Newton stole a laptop and was kicked off the team in spite of being a five star QB who might have been the successor to Tebow.

Now UT is seriously looking at bringing him on.

In this instance, a case could be made that UT has a lower standard than UF. Same with Dexter Moody and UGA.

Personally, I think it's better to keep the discussion on football. No one's hands are clean in this and it just takes the dialogue down into the gutter.

It's also just really convenient that UF had Brantly to fall back on.
BTW, how many players has Kiffin kicked off our team already? Yeah, that's right.

Morley, and the rest left on their own accord. Some couldn't cut it, or adapt and conform to the new standards.

No it doesn't. I could understand how you could make that argument for Moody and UGA since that is recent - but with Newton its a whole new deal. He got in trouble at Florida - and only there. It's a way different situation than Moody.

Cam Newton was ahead of John Brantley on the depth chart from day 1 and held that spot until being kicked off for making a mistake. Brantley has big time talent and pro potential. I take my chances on Newton if he has learned from his mistakes.
