'10 KY FB Channing Fugate

I live in Lex also man. It's always fun rubbing it in these KY fans fans even though every year I hear how this is the year. I always laugh. I usually keep up with Friday Night Lights but have never heard of the kid before he commited. But I usually only watch the central ky teams and teams like Highlands and St. X.

I was pleasantly surprised when I picked up the Herald Leader last Sunday and saw that Fugate was the number one recruit in the state.

I've been in Lex for about 19 years now and have yet to take in the Boyle Co. vs. Danville game. I may try it this year.

I thought it has already been decided that he is probably going to be a fullback. Makes sense... he is big and can block. He has speed and can catch. Having a fullback that can block and can also catch balls out of the back field is a huge plus. I think he'll be a fullback but who knows I guess. Definitely need a fullback for the offense Kiffin is running.

Kevin Cooper, Austin Johnson and Ben Bartholomew are all pretty good ones.

Bartholomew may wind up a TE before he's through at UT. He's been getting snaps at both FB and TE already.

Ben Bartholomew is strictly running reps at TE now. Talked to him yesterday. He is done with fullback according to him. Fugate i think could be a great addition at fullback for sure though as well as cooper and A. Johnson.

Fields Notes Blog Archive Mr. Football candidate Fugate opens with fireworks

Breathitt County star Channing Fugate started the 2009 season in style by returning the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, sparking the Bobcats to a 58-24 victory over Mercer County in the Forcht Bank Bowl at Campbellsville Saturday night.

Fugate didn’t slow down much after that. The second time he touched the ball he went 35 yards for a TD. The third time he ran 70 yards for a score, but the play was wiped out by a penalty. Fugate also had scoring runs of 49 and 10 yards, and also returned a punt 53 yards for a TD.

“He put on a pretty big show,” Coach Mike Holcomb said of the 6-foot-2, 230-pound senior who has commited to Tennessee.

Unofficially, Fugate ran 13 times for 224 yards, more than 140 yards in kick returns, and had five TDs.

Next up for Breathitt County is a visit to Sheldon Clark Friday night.

I've said it before, and ill say it again...he's the most underrated recruit of the '10 class

I think Rich Brooks will be kicking himself someday for not offering him. UK would have locked him up easily if they had shown interest early on.

T Williams had sick numbers like these. Fugate will be a four star

Mercer isn't necessarily a cupcake team, or at least they didn't used to be. With these numbers he has got to be a freak.

....just plain amazing! I remember when Toney Williams was putting up numbers like these last season! I was anxious to see him play this year but I guess we'll have to wait a year...

If this kid keeps putting up stupid numbers this year I don't see how he wouldn't move up to a 4 star recruit. This kid sounds like he has a lot of heart to go along with his running ability and that's the type of kid we need at UT.

St X ....
Ahhh I remember how they beat us in the State Semi's back in the mid Nineties

I grad from Marshall Co.
It was the early 2000's before we had a decent team. Prob cuz we had the 5A Mr football runner up. Alan Wiiliams.

Fullback isn't an integral part of their scheme. They had no position for him. TN is a much better fit.

Looks like Kentucky could have worked him on the field some where. He reminds me of Chris Cooley from the Redskins

I wonder what Channing Fugate did tonight (8/28) to follow up last weekends numbers?
I wonder if he could be another type player for us like Jason whitten?

Fugate had less than 30 yards rushing but apparently he was feeling :puke5:. People who watched the game said Fugate didn't look like the same player they'd seen recently. IMHO, Channing was under the weather and its hard when you have to be the bell cow on offense, game breaker on special teams, and run stuffer on D. Some people have said that Fugate looks a little out of shape right now, but he has always improved as the season wears on. When he finds his groove, the comp will be doing this, :mega_shok:

From looking at the tape I wouldn't mind one or two of the lineman. He was rarely touched until the second and third levels.I'm from eastern Ky. and have seen this kid quite abit and from what I have seen he is going to be the real deal.

Keep us posted if you get to see him play thru the season.
